I'm not a fan of the bags because a) I'm certain these played a huge role in price increases and b) they damage the product. I was an SB subber so I got the pizza boxes and my paper has been bent every time. I do like the pouches but I think SC worries too much about fluff and not enough about content. They have special packaging tape, pouches, bags, etc. They all create more expenses. People are not buying kits because of these things. They just want to get inspiration to be creative. I STRONGLY agree with this!!! I appreciate nice packaging as much as the next person, BUT I'd rather purchase the pouches separately instead of losing cardstock/patterned papers/ alphas/ embellishments in kits. I liked the brown paper bags with the SC stickers as packaging, and SURELY that was a more economical type of packing for for SC?

I ordered kits as a one off from another company and she packages kits in paper sacks with washi tape closing them. SC has put half the value into packaging and like you say, we don't buy it to look at it in the wrapper! And yes the pouches are cute but I have zero need for them. If I need a makeup/pencil/passport/ pouch then I'll go to Walmart and get one. Or use my Vera Bradley's whose only purpose when I purchased them was to hold things. I buy scrapbook stuff to scrapbook.

Agree about the packaging. A kraft paper bag with washi closing it is just as cute and way, way cheaper. I can see the appeal of the bags and could certainly use a couple for other projects. However after 6-12 months and at least that many bags (more if you're a multi-subber), what the heck are you going to do with them?? I bet a bunch get tossed after they pile up, which is just a big waste of money.

They could have kept the packaging in the paper bags and put the mesh bags in the shop for people who really wanted them.

I got the Brimfield 4x6 paper pad and one of the sheets is missing. Usually I would just ignore it (it's a $0.15 piece of paper) but because they're being so rude to everyone about everything lately I'm going to open a convo and ask for a replacement. My vellum stickers also came all smushed and bent, so I'm not a fan of the pouches. I'm not a fan of the bags because a) I'm certain these played a huge role in price increases and b) they damage the product. I was an SB subber so I got the pizza boxes and my paper has been bent every time. I am guessing it was probably a wash. I only got my kit and it arrived in a cardboard envelope style mailer. Much lighter and probably at a lower shipping rate than a box (at least when USPS is involved). I thought to myself that was probably part of why they changed and could use the pouch to spin it as being something even better and awesome when it was really about saving on shipping.

I agree about the packaging. I would love a couple pouches, but I don't think I'd need 12 of them, if I had a year long subscription. I'd rather get more product.

I asked for a shipping label and they refuse to send one. They specifically said to leave on the porch for ups. So frustrating as this will give away I'm not home. Ugh!!

They could also have done the pouches as a limited edition type thing. Something where kits were shipping in them for say, 3 months. Then people could have gotten them "free" with their kit orders, but then put them in the shop for sale. Or even had them as an upgrade option for the kits (pay an extra $2-3 and get your kit packaged in the pouch).
Are they really that much lighter than the boxes? The boxes were pretty flimsy. Maybe shipping those envelope style mailers is cheaper than the boxes? Although, again, with company discounts, UPS often just charges based on weight. When I mail things, I can put a pack of pens in a small, padded mailer or I could put them in a huge box. Either way, I'm paying the same price since the weight is the same.

Leaving stuff out like that is just asking for it to be stolen, especially if it's sitting out there for days on end waiting for UPS. But I guess that's the risk they're willing to take.

I sent them a message about the same thing. I have not heard back yet but now I am not hopeful. It's amazing that we are trying to work with them and they refuse to work with us. I think I will call my CC company today and see about what to do.

I'm not worried about the stuff being stolen but if it is how can we prove we did everything do to the right thing. My concern is that it announces that we are not home. Our cars are parked in the garage so you can't really tell if we are home or not. If I were not home I would tell a neighbor just to make sure nothing sits on my porch so I am certainly not going to put something on my porch and wait for UPS to pick it up.

Yes, I see what you're saying about indicating you're not home. Is there a way to put it inside a screen door or partially covered by a planer box or something? Honestly, since this is their fault and since you're uncomfortable with their solution, I would keep it inside. If you're around when UPS drops by, great. If not, then you can't say you didn't try to get it back to them. They have to know they're not going to get everything back.

I received just my PL sub in the pouch that was in a bubble mailer. That has to be cheaper than shipping the boxes that were inside another box. I'm actually trying to get into a couple of Facebook SC groups so that maybe I can buy a couple of the scrapbook pouches (I don't sub to that anymore) and maybe two more of the PL pouches. Then I would be comfortable canceling my sub. Does anyone know much about Pinkfresh kits? I love their Instagram feed. And I still have not been able to get on Scraptastics site unfortunately.

I have left small things hidden for friends to pick up. I also asked them if they can give me an exact day but I have not heard anything. I'm trying to get them their things back because I fear that the way they do business they will somehow hold this against us.

I'm posting this here simply because Ali is under the SC umbrella, business wise. I just looked at the Black & White kit for this month and purchased it. I posted this on the class message board on her site.
"i've had to temporarily stop my subscription for a few months; but i've purchased this one individually. i simply love it - thanks for consistently providing high quality classes and products, ali! i don't think i can adequately express how wonderful it is to just KNOW that your offerings (physical and information wise) are always dependable. no hoopla. no hype. no manufactured FOMO. just a low-key, high quality experience from start to finish. it really means a lot. thank you."

impearia, Congrats on winning the alphas I was hoping you'd get it (no offense anyone else!)--not that it makes up for the Halloween stamp, but hopefully it'll make things a pinch nicer.

I'm surprised about the customs forms...I guess they're trying to save the customers taxes or fees associated with the value? But doesn't the declared value also insure it for that much if it's lost or destroyed? Wouldn't they rather be protecting themselves from lost product? I live in Norway and am VERY happy that they set the same value. If they didn´t I´d have to pay a fortune in customs every month.

Here's the reason I ask: I called UPS and explained everything that happened in this SC situation, including SC’s refusal to email a return shipping label. This is what the rep said: --If the customer does not open the box, she can just call UPS and specify a pick-up date, or give it to any UPS driver, or UPS delivery person at work, as long as the original date of receipt is no longer than 5 business days and she marks the box “Refused” or “Return to Sender”; she doesn’t have to wait at home not knowing when UPS will come. (Why SC did not tell their customers this is a mystery to me.) --If the customer opened the box, she can call UPS and specify a pick-up date BUT she would have to pay the pick-up fee and shipping charge (I don’t know why anyone would want to do that). If I were in the situation where I opened the duplicate box I would keep contacting SC until they send a return shipping label. This is a huge hassle for customers. Added to that is UPS will only make 3 attempts to pick up. Some customers, I’m sure, live in urban areas where leaving the package on the porch or stoop is not a good idea. I don’t know, but if every customer in this situation would contact SC and DEMAND an electronic return shipping label they might just figure out that it’s the easiest way! If I find anything helpful, I'll come back and post.

lizacreates, wow! You're like the phone call Queen! That's awesome info to know. I'm thinking someone should post that to the SC message boards, but I can't decide if they'd lock/delete it or not. It's not anything against SC--it's just good to know.

I really wish Ali would drop her relationship with SC. I admire her and would buy her kits but cannot because of that relationship. SC may only make a penny on each transaction but I cannot even give them that much.

LOL! Crazy, right?! There is no way I will temporarily pay to have something shipped back that wasn't my error. I am trying to do the right thing so I will try to contact them again.

I don't understand why they are making this such a hassle!
They must not trust me because when I contacted them yesterday asking about the duplicate package (which, I still never did receive an official notification from SC about) I told them I would gladly send the duplicate package back if they sent me a label. The told me to go ahead and keep the duplicate package. They must be afraid of retaliation or something. LOL. Either that or since my order was just 2 older add-on kits, that weren't sold out, they figured it would be easier to just have me keep them.
Also, huge relief, my account with Ali will stay intact. I am very happy about that and what I was most worried about (especially since I have a $120+ DD preorder out there).

SC really, really should get a customer service department, with real people that answer phones, and can work on each issue directly talking to the customer. This email crap, taking days back and forth is a joke.
