I'm no longer subscribed to SC and haven't been in a long time but I did notice the significant increase in filler cards over time. If you are looking for a readily available option so you can keep moving with your project (kudos on catching up, by the way), you may want to consider going hybrid and buy some digital cards online. In a Creative Bubble, Kelly Purkey, indie designers on platforms like The Lilypad are all great options to explore and expand your usable stash. Yes, printing from those shops would be a good solution. I’m generally really unhappy with the print quality I get, but maybe I’ll get over it. I haaaaaate dealing with tech in my creative projects. Even readying my photos and uploading to order prints makes me cranky. 😬 But I could probably try one big print session to stock up for awhile. I’m very envious of the IACB projects I see that use printables. Probably need to pull on my patience pants and tell myself the computer is not the boss of me and I cAn Do HaRd ThInGs. 🤨 (I seriously suck at the computer stuff). I used to feel the exact same way but I managed to make it a routine, and didn't allow myself to move on to the next page until I'd completed my journalling. I had a track record of having to journal an entire album at the end because I couldn't be bothered to fire up my computer to do my journalling in the middle of a page. It's now often the first thing I do and I love the sense of accomplishment. Persevere with the digital side - it gets easier! Get those patience pants on and you'll crack it in no time!

I will second the recommendation of Elle’s Studio if you want physical product. As mentioned above, IACB has a really great series of journaling printables that are black and white (her “Recorded” series), so may be better on the print quality side for you. There are 11 sets in the series, the latest one: creativebubble.bigcartel.com/product/recorded-journaling-cards-no-11

mom "Blah... blah... blah..." is such a great way to sum up how many of us feel about Studio Calico these days. I give SC a hard time (and gosh knows they deserve most of it) but here lately they are the only reason I am getting my PL done and caught up. As soon as my kit coms in, I get to work and actually make a game out of trying to use most of it. I do throw the nasty cards away, right off the bat though (the photo cards mainly). Usually I can find something to do with one side of the cards, even if I have to add a journal spot on top. I have a empty DK plastic bag that I put all my leftovers in and I rarely have to hit my stash for a card now (which is good since my card stash is kinda low and sad). I've tried Elles Studio - her cards are not my style. I do usually like her puffy heart stickers though. I like Felicity Jane for my actual scrapbook pages (I don't subscribe, as I hate her embellishments usually. I will get a few months of paper packs and do one order every 3-4 months). Cocoa Daisy is not my style, at all (no cutesy animals and gnomes for me please). Citrus Twist I have tried before and it was ok...but just ok. And I don't like how pastel everything looks. What other kits am I forgetting? I dunno. So Sc is the kit for me, for now. If they screw with the card stock weight again, I would drop it in a second. Or did the muddy colors again. But for now, they are helping me get the job done.

But for now, they are helping me get the job done. I agree with your assessment of all of these brands. I've liked some of Elles Studio stamps also. CT I think it was the quality of the cards? That and maybe the design... like they look good at first, but then when I really look at the cards they just seem okay... and I hate the pastel/almost neon color scheme that is in every single kit. And I have found the quality of the embellishments is low too. The brands you are forgetting are my favorites though! Ali Edwards, Kelly Purkey & FYC. The only one I still sub to is AE, but mostly because I had too much piling up with my SC + AE subs bringing in more cards than I could use each month. These days I'm using my AE SBTM as the "base" for my album and then adding in other brands here and there. FYC I pick up some of Geralyn's kits and KP I pick up themed releases that fit my life. I will reconsider my SC documenter sub next January, but depends on if I have reduced my stash enough by then and if I start really missing their kits. So far this year I've looked at reveals and wanted a few pieces here and there, but never enough to buy the kit at the m2m price (I do still get my stamp sub).

It is the card quality on CT that I didn't like (same with FJ). Too flimsy and too pastel. Ahh yes! I get some of Ali's kits (I pick and choose). I really like her brighter color kits. I know I am the only one, but I wasn't a huge fan of Kelly's kits. *gasp, as I go and hide* I don't know how to explain it, but its like her kits are too pop culture for me, I guess. I did pick up a few in the past, but most of the time, I didn't even look at her releases. And FYC -- I always forget about their kits and by the time I remember, they are sold out. I would have picked up this last kit if I had remembered in time.

mom No shame in your PL game, whatever kit suits your needs! Blah blah blah was mostly a reference to SC's usual nonsense like their excuses for stopping the card kit and then the scrapbook kit, their warehouse clutter faux sales, etc. KP's stuff was really down my alley, particularly what she'd been putting out for the past 18-ish months or so. I like it graphic and heavy with pop culture references, obviously. And Ali Edwards is sure value with quite a few pocket page fans on this board. Clearly, there is diversity in tastes and preferences on here and it's what makes the awesome 2PR sauce so nice and rich and complex.

I like the designs from FYC but I bought 1 kit last year and the cards had a slick finish that isn’t great for writing. I’m still not sure if I like it, I’m afraid it’ll smudge & then the card will be ruined. I haven’t been able to use them because I chicken out.
AE kits just haven’t appealed to me ( live the stamps though )
I was just considering the KP bandwagon when she announced closing so I figured not to get used to something I’ll miss.
I haven’t tried any other subscriptions, I have PL cards fromTM though some I like some I don’t, I’ll have to figure out my style and give away the ones that aren’t my style - but I haven’t quite figured that out yet with pocket scrapping.

The SC cards I like but they are almost always the wrong direction/orientation

My May SC kit arrived today and I have to say, after waiting a month, I’m so underwhelmed by it.
So much of it went into my ‘pass it on’ pile and whilst a couple of the cards are good, it’s just filler after filler. I can get pretty much any pattern I want from my stash, I don’t need endless patterned cards.
The stamp didn’t even come with a stamp sleeve, which would have been a redeeming factor.
My June kit was dispatched yesterday so here goes the wait again!

peachiceteas Yikes, that's not good. I quit SC because the rollercoaster feels weren't for me: from one month to the next, I could go from loving the kit content to not caring for the new stuff one bit. Hoping June is more suited to your needs and taste!

Hoping June is more suited to your needs and taste! Thank you booty gal. My FYC order arrives today so I'm not all hope is lost and I will have some beautiful new goodies to play with this weekend. I also realised that there is zero benefit to actually being subscribed when they are giving our new subscriber offers every month, and there is no reward scheme for those who stay subscribed for a long period of time. The options for bundling are generally poor, stamp sets are the only thing I'm really interested in and they ship free anyway.... so it makes more sense to sub and pick up kits as and when. I remember the first year I subbed to SC, I was so hyped when I became in the silver tier rather than the 'pink' tier. I can't remember the names of what they called the tiers but gold was the ultimate sign of being part of the club. Since they dropped that all those years ago, there's not much point to staying subscribed long term.

SC just sent an email to this new racket of theirs: colorschool.co/“Hi! I'm April Foster, founder of Color School and a mom of four - almost five! I believe in following your child’s lead, facilitating their creativity, and joining with them as they experience the joy of learning. Sometimes their lead takes you down a rabbit hole for hours and their creativity leaves you with a slimy mess, but it always is so rewarding. I sincerely hope Color School helps to foster your child's creativity and supports their natural curiosity for discovering more about our wonderful world, both past and present” I just can’t even. Just.... I don’t even know what to say.

An insult to all their teacher customers. mom I guess I didn't realise those maps of the continents they had as stamp sets in the shop were drawn by Brandi? They already owned to rights to those designs so all of those were free to them to throw in there. I'm sure there are some more recycled elements. Shameless as usual.

I honestly dont believe for 5 minutes there is anything educational about colouring a map, pirate ship or a 'bill of rights'. Like sure, it's a fun activity for kids to nurture their creativity, but it's barely going to teach them anything about geography or history. They're so absorbed with the actual colouring part, they won't be learning anything other than how to colour in the lines. And why would you pay for colouring sheets when you can get them from Google for free.... just search '1700s colouring in for kids' and lots of free resources come up. You cray, April - you cray.
