WHY did I hit the submit button, and what do I do now? I applied for graduate school Monday night. I got an acceptance email/letter this afternoon.... Am I really ready to be tied down to books, paper writing and exams for another 3-5 years?

You did it, because you know that this is right for you. You are smart and you can do this. Deep breaths. You got this.

Congratulations! The acceptance itself is a great accomplishment. 3-5...it's doable.

I'm in the middle of my masters right now. It has been easier for me than a bachelors! Mainly because of my age and maturity...and that I am loving my area of study.
Congrats! You can do this

My dad offered to pay for my masters degree IF I went back to school a year after getting my bachelor degree. At the time, I thought I didn't want to get back so quickly. I was teaching and the masters classes were Friday night, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday (every three weekends). It was brutal those weekends. In hindsight, it was the best thing. My pay increased, my knowledge of my curriculum really increased, and it was free. I would always encourage someone to go for it. You will be happy after you are done. Three to five years seems like a long time. Do you plan on going slowly, or is it a very challenging degree?

Of course you are! Congrats! I've been saying for 20 years I should go to law school. Now I don't have enough brain cells left to manage it. Do it now while you're still young and smart, relatively speaking.

One step at a time. Try it. One or two classes is not a five year commitment. If you like that, take a couple more. Congrats on your acceptance. You are already a good writer. You will do well.

I feel like the application is the half the battle. I want to go back, but I just can't pull the trigger. Good luck to you! I think age and life experience is definitely on your side.

Congratulations! You can do it. I have a friend who's started nursing school and she was 53 when she started. Like Lucy, I've thought about law school, wanted to do it right out of college, but couldn't afford it or to be saddled with that kind of debt. But at my age, it's only a distant dream now.

It will be an M.Ed. The program is designed for people wanting to work in student services at universities; directors for admissions, housing, conduct officers... those sorts of things. I've been working in a admissions office for the past 8 years. I like it and it is a career path I want to stay on so this is the next logical step.

I don't have kids, but I went back at 40. The young women in my class were all 22-23 years old, and then there was me. You know what I got? A bunch of "daughters," and now two "granddaughters." If you told me on the first day how attached I would become to these women and how ageless I would begin to feel I never would have believed it. It will be very fulfilling. Enjoy your new pencils and notebooks.

I started a new job last month so i have a pretty steep learning curve there (I'm doing admission evaluations for international students and will eventually be issuing them the paperwork they need to get a visa to come to school in the US) As I go along I may step up the pace and get it done faster.

Yay! You'll love it! I enjoyed grad school and highly recommend it! It was easier than my undergrad course work because it was in my chosen field, I loved the course work, and there were like-minded people running and in the program. Congrats to you and go get 'em!
