Have you ever been stuck in an elevator or is that one of your fears? I got stuck in one recently and apparently it should have been a traumatic event, at least that's how everyone is acting when I tell them. I actually found it humorous because those kind of things always happen to me. I wasn't worried about getting out because the call box worked and I just had to wait on someone to help. Plus I was only in there for about 30 minutes.
I only started geating a little concerned since I had McDonalds for breakfast and needing a bathroom was becoming an issue since my stomach hasn't been the same after gall bladder surgery.
I guess getting stuck is a scary thing to some people. I was alone so that was good.

Since I have to pee each and every single time I step foot onto an elevator, and I am ALWAYS the shortest one there-I always think that with my luck, I will be stuck with people looming over me with my face at stinky pit level all the while having to pee.

I was but only for like 8 minutes, so no trauma. It crosses my mind sometimes. The only lasting effect is that if I have to go to the bathroom I go before getting on an elevator just in case

I don't know that I 'worry' about it - but if it happened I would be ok for about 3 min. Then I will go crazy.

I would be likely to freak out if I didn't have enough personal space while we were trapped because it was a full elevator.
Or if I were unable to breathe because of someone's perfume.
But generally no-- not a fear of mine. (I am more afraid of the possibility that the elevator will fall than it will get stuck.)

I am terrified of elevators. I hate them.
But I was in a mall parking lot and had to park on the top level. I had a just turned one year old and couldn't carry my baby plus the baby gear down the creepy cement parking garage stairs.
So I got in the elevator.
It stopped and not only did it stop, all of the electricity went off.
So I was enclosed in a small elevator, which was enclosed in cement, which was in an outside parking garage in Texas in July.
It was pitch black and quickly became hotter than the baby and I could handle.
AND THE CALL BUTTON DIDNT WORK.
I ended up prying the doors open a little with my fingers and holding my cell to the crack so I could get a signal and calling 911.
When we were rescued baby and I were treated for dehydration. Definitely one of the worst and scariest times of my life.

I have been. My office is on the 22nd floor. Always a concern. Was not stuck long. My heart was racing but no real panic.

I got stuck in my building's elevator when I was in labor with kid #2. My mom and I were on the way to the hospital, and the elevator clunked to a stop out of alignment with the floor, and the door opened about 6 inches and stopped. It was 4:00 in the morning. I remember looking at the floor of the elevator and thinking, "There is NOT enough room to have a baby in here." We frantically pressed the alarm button, but no one came.
The funny thing is that it lasted probably less than five minutes (we eventually coaxed the door to close, and the elevator went on its merry way to the lobby), but it was some of the longest minutes of my life!
Oddly, I didn't worry about getting stuck in it after that. It's since been replaced.

I wouldn't want to get stuck with a lot of people I also wouldn't want to get stuck with just one stranger. So I guess I'd be ok with 2 or three people besides me I don't like crowds. I'm actually more afraid of the elevator falling. I really hate elevators and luckily I don't have to use them much where I live.

I was, about 2 months ago and it was my "2nd stuck elevator rodeo". And like you, OP, it was no big deal. I was thankful that it wasn't someone in there who might have panicked. I punched a button and a person answered. I gave my location - what town I was in and what building and was told they'd get someone right on it. When the door was pried open I was about 12 inches above a floor and it wasnt the flokr I had selected.

I was stuck in an elevator years' ago w/ my husband and another couple. We had been to happy hour at a bar in the office building I worked in. The elevator had a red phone which we used to call for help. Several cute firemen were there in just a few minutes to rescue us.

Our college dorm elevators got stuck frequently. It probably happened to me at least once a month. In the summers, I would get free room and board to spend the nights in different dorms when camps of 1,000's of kids came in. If there was a large group of large males (usually a football camp or JW's), they would pay us to sit in the elevator after dinner and push the buttons for people. We made sure that they didn't get overcrowded and stuck. Best job ever.

I grew up in New York and have been stuck in elevators more times than I can count. It doesn't freak me out at all, whereas seeing a cockroach in the elevator with me gives me a heart attack.

I always thought it would be kind of fun to be stuck in an elevator.
But when it happened, it was anything but fun. Im a parking garage, during a heat wave, the elevator was PACKED, and I was in the middle of menopause.
The heat and claustrophobic feeling became intense. I had the mother of all hot flashes and it took everything I had to just calmly accept my condition, which was soaked with sweat and red faced.
XH was the one to call for help, it took about 20 minutes, then the floor was level with our necks, so the firemen had to help us up and out. It was children first, then the elderly, then woman lastly men.
I had a whole day to get through, and my hair was sopping wet, and I had sweated all the way through my dress clothes.

I am extremely claustrophobic so elevators terrify me. The worst ones are parking garages. I refuse to get in parking. Garage elevators if I can help it.

Last year, I was working very late on a Friday night because I was going to be out the following week at a conference. About 11:30 pm, I decided to go home. The elevator went to the first floor, dropped a bit and didn't open. I tried everything. Luckily, the lights remained on. The whole panel lit up. I was stuck in an elevator at work, in a secure building at almost midnight on a weekend (bldg is empty on weekends)
I used the phone in there and called for help. They had to locate the security company to let them in..I was in there for about 3 hours ( got out about 2:45 am) but I remained very calm...once I knew someone was on the way, and especially once they started working on getting me out, I was ok.
When I got to the conference, my boss (who had been contacted by security) had told others what happened and they were all freaking out saying they would have panicked - but I don't know why...I was quite calm the entire time

90 minutes or so until the elevator company could get me out. It wasn't a big elevator and I was in a hurry so I didn't take the stairs. That was a long time ago maybe 16 years or more ago. Awful!

I am scared of elevators, always have been! I always take the stairs and if it's too high up, I won't go. I am very claustrophobic!
When I had my 3 kids, I was more worried about having to ride the elevator to the maternity ward than about actually having the baby! For security reasons, you had to ride an elevator to enter the floor, but you could take the stairs to leave the floor.
We were at the beach one year, and I was in the bathroom with my 1 yr. old. The door knob was really loose, and I couldn't get out. My parents and husband were there too, and they got the door open. I think I just panicked and my hands were wet because I gave my daughter a bath. We still stay in the same condo, and when we go, I put a hand towel over the door so it doesn't shut tight, even though that happened 17 yrs. ago! I was terrified and thought what if someone was there alone, and got stuck in the bathroom!
I am weird, I don't worry about things that others worry about (crime) but I worry about getting stuck/locked in a room with no windows!

I once got stuck in an elevator in Coles Brothers in Sheffield, years ago, when my second child was a new baby. The other person in the lift also had a baby with her, called, of all things, Merlin! We were there for an hour or so, and sat crossed legged on the floor, feeding our babies and chattering. We exchanged phone numbers and are still in touch. We also were given a £20 store voucher, by way of an apology from the shop, which was very nice.

Although I have always been scared of elevators, I think I would take that job if I was the "elevator girl" for the college football team! I was quite fan of athletes!
But I don't think I could have handled doing it otherwise (for camps, etc.). That was a good idea to have a college student go up with the kids so they didn't get scared and didn't play with the elevator.

I don't like confined spaces and I also have a terrible fear of falling, so being trapped in an elevator would likely create a feeling of panic for me.

I am extremely claustrophobic and do not ride in elevators if I don't have to. Thankfully I've never been caught in one.

Just the two of us. It affected me to the point that, when the music library in university moved to the 11th floor of the building across the street, I would take the stairs. I still clench every time I get in an elevator.

I've never been stuck in an elevator but I've had an instance where the elevator opened severely misaligned to the floor. We could not get the door to close again so the elevator would move. We decided to climb out but by that time had pushed every button multiple times. So the fear became that it would decide to move when we were halfway in and halfway out. Thankfully we all got out fine. We reported it and went about our business. When I left the building later (via the stairs of course!), I noticed an out-of-order sign on the elevator. Duh.

My biggest elevator fear is either being along, or if there are way too many people, and I can't move around. I would probably be OK, if there were just a couple of others with me, and I KNEW the call box worked.

I work for an elevator company. PSA Please do not try and remove yourself from an elevator if the doors are slighly open and the car it is not landed properly. If you are in the door way and the car starts moving you will most likely not survive.
Hopefully a technician will arrive soon to release you. Although you have a choice to have the fire department remove you, please remember they are not trained mechanics. Also the escape hatch is locked from the top of the car.
I hope you dont mind if I take this moment to mention proper use on escalators. Please do not let your kids play on them, make sure all shoes are tried and nothing is dragging on the ground. If something gets caught it's going to take you down and likely be fatal. Hold the handrail at all times. If you have too much stuff in your hands take the elevator. I allowed my kids to play on escalators prior to my employment. It changed my view forever.
There are lots of safety features on elevator and escalators and they are highly regulated, but please error on the side of caution.
Thanks for reading.

I've been stuck in an elevator twice: - Hospital elevator for about 20 minutes, but luckily we were in the elevator with the hospital volunteer who had the magazine and candy cart. So we knew we wouldn't starve! Within a minute or two, the maintenance guys from the hospital were talking with us. The lights were on in the elevator the entire time. I think they had to do a reset and the elevator went to the nearest floor.
- The second time was at the county courthouse. A squirrel or a chipmunk had gnawed into a transformer (downtown Columbus) and power was lost for nearly all of downtown for several hours. I was stuck on the elevator for about 70 minutes. I was 9 months pregnant at the time and I think that made the other guys (lawyers) in the elevator nervous as if they might have to deliver my baby. Anyways, only the "emergency" light was on and the light was so dim, that you really could not see. Seriously, my hospitality candle in my window at home puts out more light. Basically, after a few minutes, we all sat down on the floor of the elevator. The maintenance people talked with us through the elevator shaft and also through the intercom. We were stuck between floors. It just took time for the maintenance or elevator people to manually reset each elevator. There are dozens of elevators in the courthouse.
I'm not fearful of this type of thing so I thought it was pretty funny. I mean, what can you do but wait? Luckily I had gone to the bathroom right before I got on the elevator!!!

I was once stuck in an elevator with about 20 other people for 3 hours at the CN Tower in Toronto. I can't remember the exact year - I think it was in the early 90's. Maintenance was able to speak to us at first but we eventually lost communication. One woman was freaking out but everyone else stayed pretty calm, and fortunately the elevator had a glass front so it wasn't as claustrophobic as it might have been. They ended up stopping the adjacent elevator parallel to ours and we climbed up a ladder, walked across the elevator shaft (they had put some type of material for us to walk on and maintenance workers were holding our hands at all times), then we climbed down another ladder into the functioning elevator.
I was pretty calm while all this was going on, but I definitely had nightmares that night and haven't been much of an elevator fan since. I did finally make it to the top of the Tower on a later visit to Toronto - not my idea but my traveling companion really wanted to go so I agreed!
