She stuck her head out of the living room vent a little bit ago but went back in when she saw us. I'm waiting in hopes she tries again and comes out and I can get that damn vent closed.

That is good news, if nothing else she knows how to get out! If she gets out, but then gets spooked will she be able to get back in? Aye last she is showing some interest in getting out. Cats have pretty sensitive noses, even dry food she should smell. Is there a way to block that room off from the other animals and set the trap up with her food in the living room if it is a vent she can get back in?

I'm so sorry that she continues to hide in a way that makes reaching her impossible. I hope for everyone's sake she finds her way out.

That is awesome. Now I can go to bed.
Just for the heck of it, you should hurry and snap a picture of Trixie...my guess is she would look as pissed off as she did in those early days. LOL
I know you're all relieved.

She came out of the other living room vent. She stood there for a long while. I had the lights out and was sitting as still as a statue across the room. She finally started creeping out into the kitchen and I raced across the room and slammed the 2 living room vents closed. Then I moved chairs on top of all of them. She is off hiding somewhere new but she can't get back down into those ducts now and she has access to food and water in multiple places around the house. ***************************************************************************************************************** Trixie is in the duct work but they were unable to get her out. When they first found her, she was 8 feet from the vent. She wasn't moving and they thought she was dead but they poked her with the camera and she moved and then turned. They went up through the garage ceiling and ripped open the soft duct and actually had her leg but she pulled hard and ran. She ran into a hard duct and they found her with the camera again but they had to use a saw to get that open and that scared her so she ran further before they could get to her. After that, they lost her and the cameras weren't able to find her again. The best guess is that she went around a "T" that has a hard duct to the second floor so she can't get up it but it is also not accessible because of its location. She can get back to the place where they punched the hole in the hard duct and she can get down into the air filter area in the furnace and they believe those are the only two directions she can go. We put tuna fish and water by the hole and a ladder if she decides to jump down. We'll keep checking the air filter. But to be honest, I don't feel like this story is going to have a happy ending. She's been many days without food or water and she doesn't want to come out. I don't have any idea what we're going to do if she dies in there because they don't seem to think we can get to the part where she is without tearing out the whole furnace. ****************************************************************************************************************** where might you hide? Trixie has gone missing for up to 48 hours before; she has a hidey hole somewhere that we haven't been able to figure out. She has always turned up within 24-48 hours. We were away last week and had a pet sitter. Trixie went missing last Sunday but turned up on Tuesday. Then she disappeared again on Wednesday and hasn't been seen since. We got home last night and I expected her reappear overnight but she hasn't. We've now turned over every couch and stuffed chair in the house, looked under every large piece of furniture and washer/dryer, moved the refrigerator, emptied closets and looked through toy bins. One of the other cats did pull up a floor grate while we were gone and it's possible she went in there but I guess I'd expect we'd smell something by now if that were the case So far I haven't noticed any smell that might indicate she's dead or even that she's peeing/pooping outside of the litter box. I'm at a complete loss and more than a little bit heartsick. ETA: Here, Dobby has just bitten the tail of Beezus, one of our Siamese cats. Here she is confused why Beezus hissed at her and ran away. Glad she made it out!

When we adopted out cat the foster parents warned us that he would try to get down the register vents and he did try. Fortunately we put something heavy on top of it until he was more used to his environment. I can only imagine how hard it was to get your poor kitty to come back out.

She ran and hid somewhere else so I have no photo of her looking pissed off. Dobby did try to go up to her but Trixie ran in the other direction. There is food and water across the house though and tbh, she didn't look much worse for the wear.

Oh thank god!! I lost a feral cat I was trying to civilize years ago down a storm drain, and it just ate me up- he would cry in there and creep out 2 feet and dart back- months he was there. We had to move away, so I asked a neighbor to feed him, but it was an army post with high turnover and I just agonize over lost Marvin. I did get him fixed and vaccinated first, so that is a plus, but I hear him crying in the drain but afraid to come out in my dreams, 13 years later.
Now I can sleep, I am so happy!! Cats are dumb, but very hardy. I am sure she will creep around and get some food and be ok.

Oh thank goodness - I am so relieved for you and Trixie! Now you just have to find a way to cat-proof the duct work!
Hopefully now that she is out and has access to food, water and her litter box, she will start to calm down. Do you have Feliway diffusers going? That might help calm her down and make her more approachable.
