In MyShelly's "think of the Peas" thread, I became aware that there was a big controversy about flushing the toilet with your foot, which I don't remember at all. Another pea did a wonderful job of briefly explaining what it was all about. I feel enlightened.
That got me to thinking that, for as long as I have been here, there are many references to other big controversies that I somehow missed. Here's my list of things I've seen referenced through the years and I always think, I wonder what the heck THAT was all about:
1.) Merkins 2.) Uncrustables 3.) Birdgate
Which are on your list?

I don't think merkins were controversial, more like WTH is that and why are they made.

Uncrustables is an ongoing debate over whether they are chemical laden discs of nuclear waste or a delicious, convenient alternative to a pb&j.

I have no idea what the merkin debate was here, but I do know that a Make it Yourself Merkin Kit makes a wonderful gift for a close friend with a good sense of humor.

The Garden Girls Debate- just this week was actually explained over on the scrappy boards this week.
Who was the person who created the Smak Blog2 (was that the name?) that was just exiled. Since I am relatively new to the Peas, I probably wouldn't have a reference anyway. Just wondered.

I don't know if it's controversial, but I've heard references in other threads about benem (I think I spelled that right) leaving. I wonder what happened. I just remember reading about her work and her weight loss journey.

I remember Benem being here at our new board early on. She had an ongoing update about a man at work that she was friends with, maybe leading to more than friends. It seemed that he found out about what she was writing, which was really awkward, so she left. Maybe she's here under a different name. The thing I always wonder about is the reference to spreadsheets. Did someone actually do that, is it speculation, or just a joke? I'm imagining what the categories would be.

Where do I find one? Well, the magic of this is that you make it. You take an old doll or even just doll hair from the craft aisle and cut it into 1/2 pieces. Then you take a triangle of felt -hole punch the corners (you pick the skin tone) and stuff that in there with some twine. Tape a bottle of Elmer's glue or a glue stick to the outside of the bag. Don't forget to make a topper for the bag that tells the recipient what they are getting. We passed this little gem around for years. Each new person added something different to the bag. By the end there was a tiny dream catcher, plastic hair clips, and gems etc. It was always the one thing at work that we said if something happened to us the other coworkers would have to go in to the file cabinet and find it.

I just saw a couple of references to who disappeared off the board after that.

If I recall correctly, birdgate involved a bird image that DD seemed to have copied from a Fossil handbag. The bird was kind of cute (or maybe I'm remembering it wrong), but the thread got really ugly. And I do remember the bird with the pole, but I'm not sure I realized it was a stripper pole . . .

I think there was a pea who claimed she was always put together when she went out in public, including wearing a cute pair of kitten heals. Likely in response to the slobs among us who dare to leave the house in yoga pants, etc..

I don't think there was a debate over merkins, just a lot of conversation about the how and why of their existence.

I believe someone said they would rather lick a stripper pole than give one penny to DD..and hence the bird pole badge was born. I proudly had it posted in my siggy back at the pod. Didn't someone come on and try to defend DD? Her assistant perhaps? And everyone thought it was really DD?

Admin discovered that the member also posted here regularly under another name and then both usernames were inactivated (I think). Someone noticed the absence of a particularly vocal pea and put 2 + 2 together.

The funniest part of the kitten heels thing was the woman who claimed to wear the kitten heels didn't even know what a kitten heel was. She kept posting pictures of stilettos. Which, of course, made me laugh harder. You might get away with picking up your kid from cub scouts in a demure pair of kitten heels, but if you come waltzing into the room in a pair of six inch stilettos you put on just to do the said picking up you're going to look ridiculous.

I would've been crippled, I only wear 5"+ heels for one purpose, and it isn't walking.

You have to list 7 ways that you figured out the answer. Then apply that to an essay on frogs mating in the Arctic.

My friend said they are to be called CFM pumps. I like that. It is direct and to the point. No confusion.

A Pea learned she needed cancer surgery and had to withdraw from a DD workshop. DD would not give her a refund, even though she (DD) was able to immediately resell the seat to someone else. DD made twice the money on the seat it appears. Clueless business maneuver by DD. The amount of ill will she garnered by grubbing a few hundred extra dollars has probably cost her long term. I wasn't the most vigilant Pea, but that's one scandal I read in real time and have never forgotten. Before that I cheered her family for supporting her business. But since it and Birdgate I haven't bought a single product.
