I will admit that I don't mind chain places.. it doesn't take much to please me but here is my list:
Olive Garden: I HATE their red sauce and really not a fan of their salads either Subway: To much bread and just no appeal to me at all (although my six year old LOVES Subway) In and Out: Only been there once while on vacation, it didn't leave any impression on me whatsoever Jimmy Johns: Barely a step up from Subway Del Taco: oye... gross
I do like though: Applebee's (yeah go ahead and shoot me), PF Changes, Cheesecake Factory, SMASHBURGER (I do LOVE LOVE Smashburger), Chick Fil A, Chilis

Most of them are completely overrated and overpriced....and usually hit or miss. We really try and eat at locally owned places first choice, but that's not to say we haven't tried the chains.

I'd have to say Red Lobster. It's so pricey and the food is terrible. There's nothing worse than dry, rubbery seafood!! There used to be one on Cape Cod where there's a seafood restaurant on every corner - I don't know how it stayed in business as long as it did but if finally closed a few years ago.
The other is Chipotle. My dh loves it and I won't step foot in the place.
We've been to Five Guys and I think the burgers are okay but the fries are gross. One time they even offered us free fries but I said no thanks.
We just got a Red Robin and my son goes crazy for the cheeseburger with the fried egg on it. We've only had burgers there and they were pretty good.

Definitely Olive Garden. We have a great Italian restaurant that makes sauces from scratch and people line up for OG. They get their stuff in and reheat it. Same with Red Lobster.
I don't care for Applebee's or Chipotle either.
I don't think In N Out has the BEST burgers and fries but I like that everything is fresh. Same with Five Guys. I'll take that over McDonalds any day.

I'm another who doesn't like Olive Garden. I quite liked Red Lobster the first time, but we all got food poisoning the next time we went. And we were recommended Golden Corral the first time we went to Florida. It was truly disgusting.

I always chuckle when someone asks, "What should I order for my first dinner at Sonic?" The food there is just awful. The Diet Cherry Limeade, however, is worth driving out of your way to order. I agree! Love their Cherry Limeade, but the food is nasty.

I just don't get all the hype with In and Out. For years I have heard raves. So I finally went with a friend. I was disappointed big time. Could not see what the bid deal was.
I DO like Panera.

I guess I can see some of you saying you hate Olive Garden only because I ate at one once that had awful food, dry pasta, congealed sauce. The one in my hometown, though, has had lines out the door for over 20 years and my whole family loves it, as do all my friends, so they're doing something right. That's why I find it completely odd that anyone would "hate" Olive Garden. That shit is delicious, when done right anyway. Sonic food is awful. Nothing there is good except the drinks. Those are great! Cherry limeade is my favorite. At at Macaroni Grill once after reading about it here. It was only OK. I love Chipotle though, and our local Five Guys. Cracker Barrel is overrated IMO. Never ate at the Cheesecake Factory, mainly because I hate cheesecake so it doesn't call my name.

Just thought of another one....Old Country Buffett! Hate that place and I know many, many others who do, too. But of course, there are lines out the door! For me, the food tastes gross and I can't over the germ factor in a place like that.

I very rarely eat fast food, so I can't comment on any of those except for Chipotle, which I personally love. Most of the others mentioned, we don't have here in my area unless I drive to Austin and I'm not eating at those places if I'm there!!
Of the chains I have close to me, Outback would get my vote. I just never cared for it at all. I'm not that picky. I can find something to eat anywhere I am, but I was so not impressed with Outback.

Wow, I've only eaten at a very few of these, and we eat out pretty often. (My comment is just me being kind of surprised, not snobby! ) I can't stand Applebee's, and I was distinctly underwhelmed the times I went to Red Lobster and to Cheddar's. We have a local chain called Mighty Fine burgers that everyone swears by. When I went there, I swear the meat tasted like nasty grade-school lunch. Maybe that was an off day, but I haven't had any interest in going back!

Olive Garden, TGIF, & Applebees are completely overrated. I can't imagine how one of those restaurants stay in business, much less an entire chain of them.

I have to agree with In N Out. They don't have them around here, but I had heard so many raves about them that we went out of our way to go there while on vacation. Very mediocre - I was not impressed.

Jimmy Johns. We got one here last winter. Everyone is so excited and ordering sandwiches every day. I had one. It was just a sandwich. I can make a better sandwich at home. Sonic food. Food is horrible. Cranberry limeade is divine. I would get one every day if I lived near one. I could have written this exact post! With one exception - haven't tried the Cranberry limeade - but I love the Strawberry Limeade!

I love In and Out's burgers! I'm not crazy about their fries and I think their milkshakes are horrible, but the burgers are yummy!
I'm not a fan of Applebee's (they went out of business around me, so apparently I'm not alone). I could take or leave Chipotle. I concur that Sonic has some of the worst food.

Olive Garden for me too. We have a plethora of good independently owned Italian restaurants around here, so I don't get why people go there.
I hate Red Lobster too, but I agree to go to lobsterfest once per year for dh's sake.

I used to really dislike Olive Garden. Then we moved and tried the one in our new town. It was fantastic! I think Chipotle and Starbucks are overrated. I am not a big drink person though. I am also unimpressed by Sonic-yes, even the cherry limeade Does nothing for me. Ruths Chris is also overrated to me. The first time I ate there I was sick afterward I have gone back but it really is so expensive versus the quality of food that I don't enjoy it.

Teen DD likes the smell in Subway but I do not like it there. The meat seems like it's been sitting out forever. I like "Jersey Mike's" instead. I like that they slice the meat in front of you.

The list of ones I do like is shorter. We like Smashburger and Jimmy Johns, and some local chains like Freebirds and Pappasitos. And I have to turn in my liberal card because my kids love Chick Fil A and I usually eat there when they do. Other than that, we mostly avoid them. ETA: Forgot Whataburger. Once in a while I get a craving.
