Olive Garden, Applebys, Red Lobster, Ruby Tuesday and all those that are basically like it.

How do you figure Taco Bell is overrated? I don't think I've ever heard anyone praise Taco Bell for anything other than what it is: super cheap quasi-mexican food that is good when you're down to your last $3 or when you're drunk and/or stoned and/or getting off of work at 2 in the morning. Or when you're trying to teach kids about the mathematical concept of permutations, since we all know everything taco bell is made up of the same five ingredients.

Subway-the smell in that place is awful! I had to job coach a client that worked there and I smelled like that all day.
Outback-rubbery tasteless steaks
Red lobster-rubbery tasteless seafood

I disagree with the Chipolte hate - it's one of the few chains we frequent. I like that it's a quick service restaurant that realizes people may be in a hurry but they still care about quality ingredients. They're efforts on local, sustainable ingredients while by no means perfect is a huge step up from many of their competitors.
We don't eat out that often, so typically eat at local restaurants when we go out. Most of the chains seem to concentrate on vast amounts of low quality food - which is just not the way we like to eat.

Jimmy John's are huge here, partly because the guy who started the chain lives/lived here. Everyone loves Jimmy John's...they get their sandwiches for every catered event/fundraiser you can think of. No thank you! Nasty, chemical tasting lettuce and flavorless bread. I just do not get it.
Red Lobster, Ruby Tuesdays, Olive Garden are all just no thank you. Reheated, precooked food.
We do like Chipotle and I enjoy some of the salads at Panera when I am hungry for something green.

Olive Garden! We have a tiny little mom and pop Italian restaurant in our town. Their breadsticks are ten times better than Olive Garden.

I am also not a fan of chain restaurants but I do like Red Lobster even though it's WAY too pricey for me.

I agree with all the comments about the smell in Subway. Does anyone actually know where that smell comes from (she asks, not sure if she really wants to know...)?

Mine would be: Applebees Red Lobster Olive Garden
It could be that they have been around forever and I am just tired of them.

Years ago Olive Garden had awesome breadsticks. I would order the soup, salad and breadsticks just about every time I went. Now, they taste like freezer burned cardboard. And even I can make better pasta dishes, and I'm not a chef.
I do like Five Guys, though. Malt vinegar on my fries - YUM!

We avoid chains if at all possible.
I think Olive Garden is very unhealthy.
If we go to a drive through, and it's not too often, we usually go to In and Out. It's ok.
I won't go into a red lobster because of their illegal diving practices.

We used to love Texas Road house but the last few time we have been it's been terrible food and the service even worse. I'm in Utah with my family and we went last night. It was not crowded at all, but we waited for 45 min for our food and we didn't get our rolls till almost the very end. We were disappointed but they did comp our appetizer since we waited so long. They must have had low kitchen staff.

I thought of one...Cracker Barrel. We don't have one of those here, but DH & I had heard about them from others. We were in a town with one on a day that we were traveling and looking for lunch, so we stopped in. It was super busy and I have no idea why. Four of us ordered four different things and none of us liked what we received.

In-n-Out Burger in Vacaville CA was really good, but we were last there in June 2005, things really may have changed.
PF Chang's in my opinion is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over rated and over priced.
We tend to stay away from "chains" unless it's a small local one. Those are usually okay. We do recommend if you're in the Baltimore area to look-up Mission BBQ. They are very good, limited number of items, all fresh and they really support several charities. Our favorite is their original one in Glen Burnie MD.

I hate chains!
I am lucky to live in a town that has amazing local restaurants at the same price as the chains.
The problem is sometimes when we travel we have to eat at them.
My daughter like Red Robin so we usually look for one of those.
Cheesecake factory is the most over priced and over rated restaurant! EVER!

All of them? Except Taco Bueno. Taco Bueno is the bomb.
I don't like eating out many places but can usually find something edible anywhere except at Applebees. I heve never had anything there I'd order again.

I'd have to say Red Lobster. It's so pricey and the food is terrible. There's nothing worse than dry, rubbery seafood!! There used to be one on Cape Cod where there's a seafood restaurant on every corner - I don't know how it stayed in business as long as it did but if finally closed a few years ago. The other is Chipotle. My dh loves it and I won't step foot in the place. We've been to Five Guys and I think the burgers are okay but the fries are gross. One time they even offered us free fries but I said no thanks. We just got a Red Robin and my son goes crazy for the cheeseburger with the fried egg on it. We've only had burgers there and they were pretty good. We used to chuckle about Red Lobster on the Cape! Why would you eat there on Cape Cod!?!?!?

I don't think anyone has mentioned Chili's yet. I have a relative that always gives us gift certificates to Chili's for Christmas and we never use them.

I was really excited when we got an Applebees in Courtenay BC. And then we went & it wasn't very good. IT's gone now. I don't mind Olive Garden. I KNOW WHY!!! We had one here as well, same owners. They didn't pay their franchisee royalties, so Applebee's pulled their name. Now it's Chad's Westcoast Grill. And actually, much better food.

They must have had low kitchen staff. We call it Texas Slowhouse now for this very reason. We can never get our food in a decent amount of time. We also refer to IHOP as IHOPE - as in I hope I get my order soon because I have somewhere else to be!

About the only good thing we had to say for it was that our waitress was a phenomenal server. But I wouldn't choose to eat there again.

I really am not a fan of Olive Garden. I can cook much better Italian food. The last few times I've eaten there I've found myself thinking that my pasta with homemade sauce is so much better. Not a fan of Red Lobster either... just bland and tasteless. I do like their Cheddar biscuits but I can just buy the mix for that at Target and make my own at home and never have to set foot in one of their restaurants!

Haven't read through all the responses yet, but I don't understand why people like Applebees. It just tastes...and looks like frozen food to me. If I wanted that, I'd go to the grocery store and buy my own for less. I can make better food at home.

I don't like many chains anymore. It's like the bigger they get, the worse the food gets,
Red Lobster-I am shocked that so many Minnesotans love it. I blame it on living in a state far away from fresh seafood. Seriously the most nasty stuff I've ever had, Sonic-only like the Cherry Limeade. Food is blech. Applebee's, Chili's, Friday's - we liked these at one time, but over the years the portions got bigger, but more tasteless. In n Out - just okay. Tried it twice, once in California and once in Texas. Don't get the hype. Chipotle - sorry, but don't understand the love.
I do like Panera and Noodles & Co.
