I do not like anything about Applebees or Fridays. We have a relatively new Bahama Breeze nearby and I have friends who told me they liked it a bunch because when they were there, they felt like they were somewhere else (I don't know where they felt they were...I didn't get that feel) and they enjoyed the food. I went once and I did not get the attraction at all. Not for the feel of the place and certainly not for the food. Maybe the drinks were the attraction. I only had a soda.

I will admit, that I am not a picky either at all, I will eat just about anywhere. I can even find something at Olive Garden, if it's the absolute only place around, with no other choices.
But there are a few I agree with. Subway is definitely at the top of my list. I don't get it at all. You can go next door to Publix (yes, there is a Subway next door to our Publix), walk right up to the deli, and get pretty much any sub you want made to order. You could go to Jersey Mike's, heck even Wawa and get something way fresher than Subway.
I tried Qdoba once and couldn't get into it. The flavor was bland to me, not like fresh Mex should be. I prefer Chipotle. I used to love Moe's, but their prices have gotten way out of hand and the portions skimpy.
I don't think we have Smashburger, but we have a similar place Burger Monger, and I thought, for the price, they were very bland and dry. I heard Burger 21 is the same type of place. I do admit, I love a greasy 5 Guys every now and then.
I just take everything at face value. Mass produced, flash frozen, get in and out type food. My expectations aren't too high for those types of places.

I hate Olive Garden, but I am occasionally forced to eat there because my family loves it.
Am I the only one that loves Big Macs? I only eat them we travel, because I know they are not healthy, but they are my fave.

I don't really care for Five Guys, but my husband loves it - overrated. I really don't get the hype of Culver's, either. Their custard is okay, but it seems expensive. The burgers aren't all that special - overrated. Cheesecake Factory - we will never eat there again. The food was not worth the wait or the cost. I was floored at how much the dishes were and how many people were in that restaurant. I might go there just for cheesecake again, but not for food - way overrated! I haven't eaten at In-n-Out. They are not in our area, but my husband has on a trip, and he liked it.
We do like Applebee's and Chili's sometimes. We love Chick-Fil-A and Texas Roadhouse.

I'd have to say Red Lobster. It's so pricey and the food is terrible. There's nothing worse than dry, rubbery seafood!! There used to be one on Cape Cod where there's a seafood restaurant on every corner - I don't know how it stayed in business as long as it did but if finally closed a few years ago. The other is Chipotle. My dh loves it and I won't step foot in the place. We've been to Five Guys and I think the burgers are okay but the fries are gross. One time they even offered us free fries but I said no thanks. We just got a Red Robin and my son goes crazy for the cheeseburger with the fried egg on it. We've only had burgers there and they were pretty good. We used to chuckle about Red Lobster on the Cape! Why would you eat there on Cape Cod!?!?!? The funny thing is - when Red Lobster closed - it was replaced with Olive Garden!

Great thread.
I don't care for Olive Garden, Red lobster, Ruby Tuesdays, or Applebee's.
I don't mind chili's or Fridays, but not too often.

The list of chain restaurants I like is MUCH shorter than the list of them I don't like. I do like a 5 Guys burger every once in awhile and if we are traveling and need to stop for a quick bite we will usually stop there. We have a local chain mexican restaurant, Margarita's, that I like, especially their queso fundido(melted cheese on a hot skillet with chipotle and tomitillo sauce). Ruby Tuesdays is probably the least worst option if we have to eat at a chain. I do not understand the love for Olive Garden, the food is frozen crap that they reheat.. you can buy the same stuff in your grocery freezer section. Red Lobster is a joke. Texas Roadhouse is disgusting... I don't want to eat anywhere where people throw their trash on the floor and my daughter got food poisoning there. Buffalo Wild Wings is again frozen food that they have reheated, it's noisy and crowded and has shitty service. I much prefer to go to any of our local restaurants where the food is local and fresh and prepared by actual chefs.

Qdoba Red Lobster
Qdoba is just bland. I want flavor and I want my food hot. It's bland and cold. I do love a burrito bowl at Chipotle. Flavor and it's hot.

We have found Chipolte to be hit or miss for service and prep. Last time our quac was missing ingredients and was so bland, but it was free because the previous time they gave us an empty bag of (no) chips in our carry out order!! Don't understand Panera, Noodles, and Subway. My little ones usually want Subway at the Food court so I avoid the smell some what but what is up with the smell? Noodles is fine but expensive for noodles! Panera makes me cringe each time I pay so we don't go often plus last time was awful service. That is my theme I think, lol! I wish my town had more local eateries, but it is mainly chains.

Applebees aka "Crapplebees"
Steak and Shake aka "Choke and Puke"
I'll admit that no trip to Vegas is complete without at least 1 visit to In and Out though.

It would be easier to say which ones are worth it.
There are too many to list.

For me to think something is overrated it would have to be highly recommended or raved about. The only chain that I feel people rave about is In and Out. I ate at In and Out a few times when I lived in various places in California and they never made a lasting impression. So that would be the only place I feel is overrated. Oh wait, add Krispy Kreme, those just aren't my type of donuts I've never eaten at an Applebee's, Wild Wings, PF Changs or Chik fil A. I understand why people go to chains, many of them might not have been exposed to good food of whatever type they are serving. My dh is from New York and hates seafood. He knows I love seafood so for a special meal last year he took me to Red Lobster. For him it was the seafood restaurant he thought of because he doesn't eat seafood so he wouldn't know. For me being from Washington and used to fresh caught seafood it was not where I could pick. My parents eat at chains because they can use coupons and get better prices than many of the independent restaurants. So I don't begrudge or look down on people that eat at chains, I figure they just haven't had better so they don't know
