?? What am I missing? Whatever it is, I'm missing it too. These are two very middle of the road/every day names that wouldn't raise an eyebrow here, especially as they are spelt normally. I suspect it is a Jack Daniels reference. I also think both names are lovely, and it wouldn't make me wonder at all.

I used to work at a very large church and one of my jobs was checking kids into children's church. Some of the names just defied logic. Attikus, Cotton, Journey... just to name a few. Yikes!

I don't know if this has been posted before but I came across it yesterday...
Airwrecka (Erica). Good grief!
Have you seen any good ones lately?
Kearstin or was it Kearstyn? Krymson, Kabry, I could go on and on. I live in Utah.

DD has a dance teacher whose new baby girl is named Ridleigh. Seriously? As in Rid? I got rid of leigh? Most of the names in our school are pretty typical. One year, I had a student and her name was pronounced 2 different ways by her peers. She answered to both. Most students called her by the name that phonetically didn't make as much sense. There are a few names, like Katelyn that I've seen spelled so many ways. They make it easy if they go by Katie. I love the name spelled Caitlin, which would probably make people crazy if I used it. I used C names. but it looks so pretty spelled that way.

I love the name Atticus. I would not spell it with a k but it looks ok with a k. I also know a child named Satchel after Satchel Page and his sister is named Splendid but the real kicker is my BILS 2 yr old step grandchild is named Riot yes you read that right. Riot. Like a fight. Her soon to be baby (whether brother or sister) will be named Halo O'ryan. Right now we call Riot, baby girl or ryry but seriously Riot? I've never met her mother or father. BIL and SIL have her most of the time as mom and dad are always high or in jail.

Ooh thought of a couple more...I used to work in Childcare.. I know a couple of girls named miracle an aweshauntasia(I could be spelling it wrong) and I can't forget my sweet little Whisky Ann. There was also a child whose name I never did learn how to pronounce as I only saw it in writing. I was in the corporate office by then maybe you guys can figure it out...Ibnd'd his parents were foreign African or Jamacian I can't remember but the teacher called him love. He was only there for a few months and was only about 6-8 mos old so he didn't yet talk.

Yep they named their girls Jacqueline and Danielle because of jack Daniels. I just thought it was a little strange to be inspired by whisky. But I agree the names are normal and pretty.

I totally missed the Jack Daniels reference. I immediately thought the mom was a fan of trashy romance novels by Jaqueline Susann and Danielle Steele.

In a store yesterday, a teenage clerk's nametag said Nautica. After I commented on her unusual/pretty name, she said her parents chose brand names for her & her siblings. Her middle name is Lauren (as in Ralph Lauren); her college-aged brother is named Hugo Boss, but his friends call him "Boss;" & her little sister is Prada Gucci & they call her "PG." She laughed & said her parents were trying to be different, since all her cousins are named after car manufacturers. Her name likely has started many conversations & made her a personable young adult!

I think some countries who require the government to approve a child's name (Iceland is one) might be on to something.... ingrid6, I have a Danielle Elizabeth!

And then our friend's idiot niece named her baby Cole. Which is perfectly fine unless your last name happens to be Black. Which takes me to the darling child of a teacher in our school district: Lily White!

I noticed that one of Emmet Till's cousins is named Airwrecka McBride. She gave a statement after Lil Wayne's idiot song lyrics came out that were derogatory to women and Emmett Till.

While creative name spellings aren't my thing, I have a tendency to roll my eyes at the outrage of an extra Y or other changes parents make. Airwrecka is beyond the pale though IMO. It's not pretty, it's not creative - it's just wrong. If one wants to be unique, at least try not to reference disasters, it really isn't a good choice.

That's just crazy! I had to read it a couple of times to be sure I was seeing right. Speaking of different spellings, how about Aeryn? It's not horrible, like this one, but different. I saw a 20/20 show last year that was about a guy (Aeryn) who went missing in Austria and they still don't know what happened to him. His name and his story have stayed stuck in my mind.

I can't speak to the other names, but Cotton is a legitimate, very old-fashioned name. I've known both men and women named Cotton. Interestingly, they are all southern, so it might be a regional thing.

Yes, the AirWrecka I posted about was McBride, there is a link to it further up. And she's in her 30's I'd say, so it's not just a modern parent trying to be trendy.
Some unusual names are lovely but creative spellings, either with unusual or everyday names, leave me pretty cold. There ought to be a law - some people just shouldn't be allowed to name children.
Thanks for the names posted here, there are quite a few I've never heard before - interesting to say the least!

Which takes me to the darling child of a teacher in our school district: Lily White! When I was a child, our neighbour, who was ancient, or so I thought at the time, was called Olive Green. Mind you, it was her married name. Her parents hadn't saddled her with it. It was a source of great amusement in the neighbourhood.
