Many years ago, I worked with a guy named Aeryck. Or Eric to us mere mortals. My son's name is Erik. I would rather have spelled it with an A because in my head it's pronounced Air-eck. But I didn't want to be judged. Nothing wrong with Erik, it's a relatively common name in Norway.

As we are all prone to do with long names - will they shorten it and call her Wreck?

My sister was a teacher for many years and in the same year she had two girls named for cars, Camry and Cimarron.

I'm not sure if it is an urban myth but I've heard the name La-a ("la dash a") several times.
I had a student a couple of years ago named Kattie. She pronounced it like Katie. I said, "No, sweetheart, your name is "cat e"."

Oh, I forgot about the twins when I was student teaching. A boy named Seagram and a girl named Tanqueray. I'm pretty sure I know how they got here!

I know a baby girl named Jakk Rayne. Yes, that would be pronounced "Jack Rain" for a little girl. poor thing. Rayne is my daughter's middle name. Her first name is Jasmine. She has always loved it. I picked Jasmine because I loved Jasmine Guy at the time and Rayne because I loved the name (Richard Pryor's daughter is named Rayne-she just spells it differently) and I thought the two sounded lovely together.
I don't think she would have been all that happy with Jack as her first name though.

"Airwrecka"
That looks like Airwick to me. I would think she is an air freshener.

That's just mean.
Airwrecka?
I can't be the only one who saw "wreck" first and immediately had a negative connotation in my mind.
Why the heck would you do that to your daughter? Why not just the regular spelling?
People are idiots.

Later in the year, after getting to know her very well (she had family drama and would come to me for private talks) we became quite close. In fact, we still talk often even though neither of us are at that school anymore. I told her about the spelling of her name very jokingly, outside of class, after building a great rapport. I can see now where that seemed odd without clarification.

DD has a dance teacher whose new baby girl is named Ridleigh. Seriously? That doesn't strike me as too odd-- Ridley Scott is a director (although that makes it a boy name), and she could have just gone with Ridley, but I see how changing it to -leigh tends to feminize it.

I would have been better without the W... because everyone will pronounce it with an emphasis on WRECK. Exactly, who puts the word 'wreck' in someone's name

That's the part that bothers me. If she had kept the spelling as the "normal" spelling, I wouldn't have thought anything of it.

I actually like the Rayne (rain) part of the name, but Jakk?! It took me some time to even come up with what they were trying to say. lol Jasmine Rayne sounds like a soft delicate fragrant rain.
