I stopped wearing nylons/hose many years ago. They are itchy and if you aren't wearing the thigh high ones they make your hoo-haw sweat...even still pretty much the only people who wear hose around these parts are the elderly. So from reading the replies on the other thread Peas indicate that is why they don't wear dresses. Are nylons a requirement where you are? Slips too? No one wears slips either unless the dress is made of a material that is thin and there would be a risk of seeing your hiney.. I am now curious. ?

hiney No-one I know of wears sheer stockings anymore; opaque pantyhose/tights: yes. I love to wear dresses, and I usually wear a slip with them cause I don't like the feeling of the dress getting stuck between my legs when the wind blows.

I wear hosiery and am not elderly. I find, FOR ME AND ME ALONE, that I feel more polished and finished when I wear hose. (I live in Florida so if there was ever a place that produced sweaty punani, it would be here. That doesn't seem to be a problem for me though? But admittedly, it takes a lot for me to get hot and temperatures that may be bothersome to some people do not seem to bother me.) ((ETA: I do not own a slip. I rarely buy unlined skirts/dresses, so slips are not needed. However, if I were to buy an article of clothing that required one, I would wear it.))

I've never worn or owned a slip, I don't see them as a requirement for wearing a dress. I will wear tights, black ones mainly but not flesh coloured thingys.

I wear cotton tank or short sleeve dresses when I go out in the spring/summer so I would never wear a slip. Since it's summer, I wouldn't wear hose. In the winter if I wear a dress, I would wear tights or leggings under it. In my mind, slips are made to be worn under woven types of material, and I wear cotton knits.

(With a dress, not shorts or something). I have worn slips in the past, but don't see that it's necessary unless a skirt is unusually sheer or super clingy. I think it's a personal preference thing, but I think (again personal) that it makes my pasty legs look better.

I wear hose with some of my skirts. If they hit me mid-calf or higher I will wear hose with them. If they are maxi skirts or dresses then I don't wear hose with them because I'm usually wearing a sandal. As far as slips are concerned, I have half slips. I don't think I could tolerate dealing with another set of straps. Between the bra and the slimming tank top thingy I wear everyday that's enough straps, no need to add anymore.

No slips. I might wear black hose, but never nude.

I rarely wear hose. For more formal dresses, my favorite pairs of dressy shoes are very strappy and/or open toe - so they'd look ridiculous with hose. For more every day wear, I don't wear a ton of dresses in the winter - some skirts that I'll pair with black tights and boots. In the summer, you wouldn't find me near hose. I've never owned a slip.

I wear opaque tights a lot in the winter, as well as black hose. I have one pair of nude hose but I don't wear them often. I don't wear slips either. For shoes I wear heels mostly, boots both flat and with heels. I only own 2 pairs of flats because I don't like the way they make my feet look and I never wear them with my dresses.
I love wearing dresses and they are pretty much my summer wardrobe! The other thread seemed like a lot of looking for excuses not to wear dresses. I am in my 30's and don't consider myself old!!!!

No one under 60 wears hose here. You see tights or leggings with boots during the winter, but it is bare legs in the summer.

I will wear tights (I'm English ) with a dress/skirt on a more formal occasion. It's more casual, to my mind, to be bare legged. I think I have a slip in the depths of a drawer somewhere....maybe...

I wear dresses a lot. Maybe 3 or 4 times a week.
I do not own hose. I do associate them with the elderly.
I've never heard anyone say "nylons" IRL.
I don't own any slips.
To me dresses are easy. They are simple, one step dressing for a pulled together, but comfortable, look. Adding hose defeats all that I like about dresses.

Not everyone has flawless legs and can get away without wearing nylons. I see plenty of ladies, especially professional, wearing nylons around here, myself included. I personally wouldn't dream of wearing a dress without at least a half slip (though I haven't worn a full slip in years.) I've seen too many female hineys/panties showing clear as a bell through dresses backlit by light... sun and otherwise. Nobody wants to see somebody's underwear, including the popular bra strap trend, it's just not attractive.

I wear tights (aka hose) in the winter, not in the summer. And I haven't worn a slip since 1980 something. If it's a really formal occasion, then I might wear sheer hose in the summer as well - I don't tan so my legs are always pasty white.

Well, I am about to start ready right now to go out. I have a full slip and silk stockings to put on first. I LOVE wearing lingerie. It makes me feel very feminine...especially the silk ones. All of mine are vintage and have the most amazing details on them. I do wear a lot of dresses and were the slips that look like shorts all the time. I get why no one my age wears them (44) but I do every change I get. I live in So Cal and don't find it makes me any hotter.

I can't even remember the last time I wore pantyhose. I have one resort wear type dress that is a little sheer, so I bought a full slip from Spanx. It really falls into the category of shapewear more than a classic slip. That stupid thing rolls up over my hips after about 5 minutes, so I just quit wearing the dress unless I'm on a beach vacation and I have my swimsuit on underneath. None of my regular dresses are either lined already or a think enough fabric so they don't require a slip. I wouldn't even know where to get one.

Another Florida pea here, I never wear hose. I don't own any closed toed dressy shoes plus I have huge thighs and fear starting a fire if I had to walk quickly.

I think it's funny that the "no hose EVER" trend has only been around for maybe 7-8 years, yet so many people claim to associate hose with the elderly. I also think it's funny that, when looking for some sort of hosiery to wear to a wedding in January (in Michigan, where no one's legs are dress-ready in January), that "sheer tights" are now a trend. Aren't those just nylons/hose?? For the record, I wore black opaque rights, even though the sheer ones suited the dress I was wearing. In the summer, I don't wear hose, but in the winter, bare legs are just a no.

At least here. I also think that associating it with the elderly has more to do with attitude (the elderly refusing to accept current fashion norms and clinging to what was the norm in their time) than with time.

no no no! The less layers I have on the better and I REALLY detest constantly tugging tights/nylons/hose up all day long and pulling down slips and arranging my skirts! If it requires anything under, it doesn't get bought.

I wear skirts 90% at work. I wear tights in winter. Any day over 40 degrees I'm bare legged. I'm much more comfortable in separates vs dresses due to fit issues. I admit I have nice legs and even though I'm white, my skin tone works bare. I rarely wear any heel over 1". Mostly flats or kitten ( ) heels.

Ugh, my legs are pasty white, so I can't stand to wear them bare. I prefer winter for wearing dresses so I can wear tights.
I had a wedding last April and went bare legged. OMG - it snowed and I froze! Luckily had a cute jacket I could layer over my dress.
I want nylons to come back, LOL. No one calls them hose here, just nylons.

I wear skirts or dresses 99.99 percent of the time. No nylons. Except for job interviews and funerals. Slips if see through.

I must have more slips than all the peas put together. I don't wear dresses any more except to an occasional wedding but I have half-slips of varying lengths and colors including one my grandmother made for her wedding in the early 1900's. It amuses me that no one thinks they need a slip when I see people all the time when, against the light, I can see every curve of their body, legs and inner thighs. But, maybe people don't care. To each her own.

I own 4 half-slips (2 white, 2 black - 1 each in a longer and a shorter length). I would like to find a petticoat (full slip) but they seem to be elusive.
I wear nylons if I'm dressing up but not for everyday casual wear and prefer nude to colours.
no heels though - I have arthritis and a reconstructed knee

I wear pantyhose daily if I wear a dress (in NY, in my 30s) except for the summer. I wore them all through high school, so it truly doesn't bother me. I do buy high end ones because after four years of cheap stockings, I vowed to only wear ones that were higher quality. Oh, and I am pasty as can be, so I only feel like stockings help. Plus, if Princess Kate can get away with 'em, I'm gonna try!
I also wear, gasp, a slip, if the dress warrants it. But, the tough thing is finding a non-compressing one. I much prefer Jockey's Slip Shorts instead of a slip in the summer if the skirt isn't sheer. They are awesome and they often go on clearance in seasonal colors. I must have 10 pairs of them!

I do, however, rock wearing tights with a long sweater in the winter and look fabulous if I do say so myself.
