I'm just under and I think it's interesting to read that most posters believe I must be stick thin, look sick and that I'm starving myself to be this weight. What?!! I don't see anyone making observations about you. I see a lot of people saying that the guidelines do not apply to them because they have big bones, which are heavier, a mesomorphic build, so more muscles which are heavier, etc. People differ in their body types. That's just the way it goes. I always wanted to look like a ballerina but I don't. My build is stockier--more like that of a gymnast. Both are incredibly fit but they just look differently. No they're not. If, however, I had been asked about a completely healthy weight and had responded that, at that particular weight, I would look grossly fat and would feel disgusting, that I weighed that amount when I was pregnant, I wonder how many people who fell above that weight wouldn't take my comments at least a bit personally. I would, after all, just be making comments about myself. FTR, I also fall into that large-framed, muscular, big breasted category.

You know, I've ranged from morbidly obese to a weight that falls within normal limits. I've had my run with binge eating disorder, bulimia, exercise bulimia and anorexic behaviors. I've done lots of work in therapy. I guess I'm just finally at the point where I have decent boundaries and don't overpersonalize what other people are saying about THEMSELVES. And let's not be disingenuous--in our society, it's ALWAYS going to be more acceptable to be underweight than overweight. Lots of people say lots of shit because weight is such a touchy issue with women, but when it comes down to it, the comments are always more about them than the person being commented on.

But you have to acknowledge that a bunch of people on this thread said a whole lot more than this wouldn't be a good weight for me. There was the - only for someone under 25. Only if they have no muscles - which are just two that popped to the top of my mind. Any formula that doesn't take into account frame size is going to be wrong - but the suggestion that you have to be a waif with no muscles to fit this formula is just as wrong.

Whether it's more acceptable to be underweight in society really has no bearing on the person who has low body image.

This really depends on skeletal size. I have a very small frame I am 5'7.5" and I am most comfortable weighing 125-130
