I read that this is a good rule of thumb to determine your ideal weight:
"For women, allow 100 lbs for the first 5 feet and 5lbs for each additional inch."
I'm curious how this formula reflects the average. How does your weight compare with this?

I heard this rule of thumb about 40 years ago. It seems about right; I'm small-boned so I should be a little less than that which I am.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha........ not even close!
ETA: Even when I was a teenager and in my early 20's and skinny I was 8 - 10 pounds more than that. It sounds like the ideal is on the underweight side of normal.

None of the above. At 5'1", I'd be horrified if I weighed that LITTLE. When I had defined abs I was closer to 125. I come from stout stock!

I gave up on charts and formulas a long time ago.
I haven't weighed what that formula says I should weigh since I was a child. My goal weight is 40-50 pounds heavier than that - the last time I weighed my goal weight I wore a size 8 and was fit and strong. I have a big ass and a big frame.
So no, that formula doesn't tell me what I need to know about my body.
It's that simple for me. I'm looking for fit and strong and I don't need s formula to tell me when I'm there.

I used to weigh less than that, back in the day. I can't believe how skinny I was. Now, I think i have shrunk a little. And two kids and three decades later, well, that about says it all. I feel curvaceous and womanly but not fat. Lisa

Pretty close - I'm 53kg and according to that should be 52.2.

I weigh 20 - 25 pounds less than what that says would be ideal for me. And that doesn't seem ideal at all. I have a tall frame but it's a small frame if that makes sense. I have weighed what I weigh now for my entire adult life outside of being pregnant, so I think it's just fine.

5'5 would be 100+25? I was almost skeletal at that, not a good look for me at all. Granted I'm obese, morbidly obese right now, so if I weighed that I'd most likely be healthier.

I was very happy with my weight when I was right around 140 lbs, which would make me 15 too heavy according to my height of 5'5" and this standard. But I felt good and I felt I looked good, so if you showed me this then I don't think I would have worried about it a bit. And now, well, now I'd be quite glad to be 140 again!

That's pretty much exactly what I weighed as a slim teenager and exactly what my slender teenage daughter weighs. That would not be an ideal weight for me as an adult--my goal weight is a good ten pounds over that formula. I think I would look too thin and not have enough muscle at that weight.

Not even close. I'm about 5' tall. About 10 yrs ago I lost weight and was around 105 lbs. This was right before we went on vacation to where my parents live and where I went to hs. Even people who hadn't seen me in a long time (so they had last seen me at about that weight but at a younger age) asked if I had been sick. I'm overweight now though and would like to lose a few lbs.

I replied No Way. I need to clarify - I wouldn't be horrified if I weighed that much, I just don't.

I wear sizes 4-6 and according to that formula, I'm a good 15 lbs over the ideal. When I weighed about 10 lbs less for a very short period of time, people assumed I had been ill and even I disliked the way my arms looked old and my face was hollow.

Up until I graduated high school, I was a couple of inches too tall according to that, now I am a couple of inches too short. I guess you do shrink as you age.

Noooooo way, but mainly because I lift weights and have a lot of muscle!

That weight would be unhealthy for me at 5' 2.5". I weighed more than that when I was a very thin, muscular size 6. I'm overweight now but would be happy to be in the 130-140 range again.

It does not right now, but 3 years ago it did and I felt my best then. I do lift a lot of weights but I don't blame my muscle for a heavier weight.

As if I'm 5'2" and there is no way that I could get away with being 110 lbs

I'm 5'7" and according to that should be 135lbs. When I am that thin, I look and feel very sick. I'm comfortable around 140-145. I feel good at that weight. My size 6 and 8 clothes fit me well at that weight, My boobs are ginormous at that weight too. I don't lose in my chest at all! Just in the belly and waist. Right now, I'm 38 weeks pregnant and just hit 188 at the doctor today. Lol. I'm sure I'll hit at least 190 before I deliver in 2 weeks. I'm ok with that. Just going to have to work my tail off to lose 45 lbs and fit back into my clothes to return to work in August.

Meh. All this tells me is that I was supposed to be two inches taller. Just as I've always suspected. Somebody else messed up, not me.

Should read: For fine-boned women with low musculature.
I am 5'3" but would be a skeleton at 115. I haven't weighed that little since elementary school. I have a large frame and lots of muscle.

No. Even at my most slender I probably weighed 10 more pounds than that height scale suggests I should have. I was a size 0 back in those days, but I was always a curvy girl with boobs and hips and I think that accounted for the additional weight. According to that scale, I should weigh 105. I do not.

I fit the scale perfectly! By the way, have I ever mentioned that I'm ten feet tall?
