Hi all, on my thread about the movie 10 Cloverfield Lane, I said we should have an ongoing movie thread where we rate movies kind of like Rotten Tomatoes. Hence the title ROTTEN PEAS. Feel free to come here to post about a movie you've seen. You can give a thumbs up or thumbs down, a *meh* or a *Best Movie Ever*. Make it fun! The only rule is NO SPOILERS. If you want to tell something that might be a spoiler, please use the spoiler button. DH and I go to the movies every Tuesday so I will be reporting back often.  |

We saw Zootopia last weekend, and had many laugh-out-loud moments. It isn't the best movie ever, but I managed to stay awake through the entire thing, and my family will tell you that's rare for me these days. (I swear I'm not 90!) If nothing else, go see it for the sloths. Worth it.

I can't trust the peas anymore when it comes to movies anymore. I saw "Just Go With It" based on all the peas saying how great and funny it was.

Movies we've seen recently are: Eddie the Eagle - we really enjoyed it London Has Fallen - A lot of critics panned it but we thought it was fun ~ we're suckers for big action, lot's of special effects movies. Maybe if we lived in London we wouldn't have like it quite as much.  Race (Jesse Owens) - Although we would have like to see more about Jesse after the Olympics we understand time restraints in a movie - we both liked it a lot The Finest Hours -The Most Daring Rescue in Coast Guard history - gripping! The Revenant - Interesting. Not one I would watch again but wanted to see Leo's performance. |

The Witch - not scary at all, plus they are speaking in a olde English common to the time it is set and they tend to mumble so hard to understand the dialogue.

Recent movies: Deadpool -     (yeah, I like this one just a bit...saw it twice!) Spotlight - pretty good. Won't watch again. Bridge of Spies - pretty good. Would watch again if I happen to find it on. I can't wait for Suicide Squad! |

Loved Deadpool as well, though I made dh sit next to 20 yo ds, I couldn't face him during the raunchy scenes.

The Revenant - I agree completely with your assessment, Joy. I was happy to watch it once - Leonardo - but would not watch it again.
I loved Risen - a different perspective about Jesus and the crucifixion. It did not stick to the biblical text, but I didn't have any problems with the creative license.
Daddy's Home - I liked this - surprisingly. It was cute without a bunch of sex or language. Quite a few laughs.
As to the maligned Just Go With It above, I liked that as well. But if you don't like Adam Sandler, then you won't like it at all. And if you liked this movie, you might want to check out Blended as well. Both were cute and entertaining with a few laughs. The main difference is that the first has Jennifer Anniston while the second stars Drew Barrymore.

This was a DVD, so I'm not sure if you include those, but AMY was so compelling. It was the documentary about Amy Winehouse. It was almost horrifying to watch her sink more and more. Didn't think I'd enjoy it, but I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after watching.
I'm anxious to hear the reviews on 10 Cloverfield. John Goodman seems like he'd be a scary great bad guy.

We hated Deadpool. One of the stupidest movies I've seen in a long time. I enjoyed the opening credits which gave a description of the characters--popular guy, hot chick, etc... Dh said the actors/resses/etc... weren't willing to have their names connected to the movie. The whole movie was gratuitous.

Zootopia, was adorable. We had several LEO familes and their kids come. We all loved it.
The kids loved it also from 5-13 were the kids ages.
We loved the dream what you want and go for it no matter what message.

The last movie I saw at the theater was "The Boy" - about a young woman hired to be a nanny for an older couple's son. When she arrives, turns out the 'son' is a doll....creepy things follow. We really enjoyed it! It was suspenseful but not graphic or gross. I'd give it 4 peas out of 5 !  |

Fun!!!
Just saw Deadpool Tuesday. I give it 2 peas (heehee), or a thumbs down. The humor was good, but the language/jokes/violence was way over the top, unnecessarily, more nudity than I was expecting.
Yes,I knew it was rated R, but I think it was way overboard, I think.

we saw London Has Fallen last weekend and we really liked it. we liked Olympus Has Fallen too but I think this sequel is better! lots of action and, well, Gerard Butler. i should have led with that. LOL

I can't add anything new to this; we've seen a couple lately that have already been mentioned: The Revenant I LOVED it; very gripping, and it didn't feel 'long' to us at all. I actually DO want to see it again, so I can pay attention to some of the smaller details, scenery, and the music. I give it 4.5 out of 5 peas The Finest Hours We both really liked it; I'd give it 3 out of 5 peas. The reviews we saw were just 'eh' about it, but we thought it was really good, especially the drama / suspensefulness of the scenes on the water. The real newspaper clippings and photographs during the end credits were very neat. One thing I really didn't like about it, though-- The personal story seemed a bit phony and 'off' to me: like, his girlfriend / fiancé-- how could she live in a town like that and NOT know how important their jobs were, and that they would always risk their lives to do the job?? Like when she stomped into the commander's office, pouted, and demanded they be brought back in, did she really think he'd go ahead and do it?? yeah, right! |

the Revenant was fantastic. the cinematography was beautiful and Leo really earned his Oscar in this one.
Deadpool was a refreshing take on super hero movies. this movie was made for Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool. this movie made me forget his poorly cast stint as the Green Lantern.

Well, don't rent it...it's so dumb! I sat in the theater debating leaving, but I thought for sure it was going to get better. I mean, so many peas LOVED it, so it HAD to get better. |

In answer to your spoilers: The romance part was all Hollywood. They were in fact already married when this event took place and she was home in bed with the flu so she missed it. |

To each her own, scorpeao. I think a lot of recent comedies are really stupid. So I get your dislike, even though I don't agree.  Personally, I think nearly all Adam Sandler movies are very similar - goofy comedies where he finally gets the girl. When I looked up his movies - he's the lead in about three dozen - the only five that were any different were 1. Pixels 2. Hotel Transylvania 3. Little Nicky 4. Reign Over Me and 5. Spanglish. But that's IMO. Not a big deal either way. Lisa |

The minute we get home from a movie based on a *true story* I use google to find out what the true facts are. Those parts in The Finest Hours were the least interesting to me. The rescue was amazing. |

I admit, I never paid her talent much credit as her troubles were given more attention by the media. I'm sorry for that.  We rarely go to the theatre any more but recently rented: The Martian...really liked it...4 Peas **** Spectre...liked it well enough...3 Peas *** |

Dh and I went to Deadpool last weekend and we totally LOVED it We seemed to get jokes that the rest of the audience didn't ... you really need to pay attention Dh said it was the best movie he had seen this year |

I am going to see either London Has Fallen or 10 Cloverfield Lane on Saturday, shoot maybe both if I have time.
Next weekend I'll be seeing Allegiant. They've definitely taken some liberties from the book by the looks of the trailers, but I don't care I just want to stare at Theo James for 2 hours.
