We watched The Revenant this weekend and my dh and I both thought that it was way over hyped. I thought that Room, Spotlight and The Danish Girl were all better than the Revenant.

The last movie that I went to see was Batman vs Superman. I took my boys ( 12 and 13 years) They thought it was pretty cool. I wasn't too sure whether I would like Ben Affleck in the role ( I am totally a Christian Bale fan ) but I have to say I was impressed. The guy who played Lex Luther was suitably manic!!! Loved the special effects. Kinda wished Wonder Woman was in it more as Wonder Woman! We will definitely go to see the next one.

I just watched Jane Got A Gun and I really liked it. I will watch anything Natalie Portman is in. I also loved Brooklyn. It is a slice of life movie but really good.

We just got back from seeing Sing Street. It is about a boy growing up in Dublin during the 1980s who escapes his strained family life by starting a band to impress the mysterious girl he likes. We had a a little trouble understanding all the dialog which isn't unusual. But we really liked the movie. Fun music and a sweet story. I'd give it a 4/5. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 97%.

DH and I saw Mother's Day on Saturday. It was pretty cute, and a little funny. I liked it, but there were a couple of parts that seemed pretty ridiculous. It was fun to see, but it's not one I would see again.
ETA: it got 8% on Rotten Tomatoes! I would have given it a 50%+, at least.

I had two long flights recently, and I watched:
By the Sea (Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt) - beautifully filmed but dull Goosebumps (Jack Black) - surprisingly good, decent plot and fun special effects Fargo - I've seen this a dozen times, one of the best movies ever The Big Short - I REALLY liked this. I thought it would be hard to follow or boring, but it was great

I saw Everybody Wants Some! this past weekend and really enjoyed it. It's not a movie that was on my radar, but a few podcasts I listened to raved about it and I decided to see it. It's by Richard Linklater and very much in the vein of Dazed and Confused.

We saw The Jungle Book today. It is a visually stunning movie that has periods that would frighten young children. Sadly a couple decided their toddler would be entertained and she talked/cried/shouted during the entire movie. Research people, research.

I just saw Remember on DVD. I did not want to see it. Not the subject matter that I am even remotely interested in. It was a really, really good movie. I'm still thinking about it two weeks later. I loved it, my husband loved it and I had to almost force my daughter to watch it and she loved it too.

We went to see Me Before You this afternoon. Haven't read the book but knew the basic premise from the previews. The actress who played Lou was fabulous. Loved her quirkiness and funny fashion choices. It wasn't until I got home that I finally placed Will as an actor from The Hunger Games. We both enjoyed it, me probably more than DH but he wasn't sorry he saw it.

I feel like I haven't been to the theater in so long and I'm one who loves going fairly regularly. I have seen a few movies recently on DVD:
Deadpool: my family loved this; I thought it was okay. Yes, it was cleverly written and acted but it was a little too raunchy and violent for me. I'm not a big Marvel fan anyway and I'm not a lover of violence (but I DO love horror movies, so go figure). I laughed a bit but wouldn't care to watch again.
The Witch: We've heard so many mixed reviews on this but we really liked it. It's about a family who are asked to leave their New England village due to a disagreement the father has with the people in charge. It's set in the late 1600s. They head out into the wilderness to start over and some very bad stuff starts happening. It was very creepy and disturbing and the setting was so desolate. Very atmospheric.
The Boy: I thought this was going to be so goofy and I really loved it. It's about a nanny who's hired by and English family to care for their boy. When they introduce her to their boy, he's actually a sort of life-sized china doll. She thinks it's a joke, but they absolutely talk about him and treat him as if he's alive. It was quite suspenseful and had a really interesting twist.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Me Before You (loved the book and the sequel). I also think the Popstar movie looks like it could be fun. I really want to see Hello, My Name is Doris too--looks adorable.
I'm another one who didn't love The Big Short. It was so frantic and weird. I watched it during Oscar time (I watch all the Oscar movies before the ceremony) and I think I need to watch it again with my dh to see what he thinks. I'd actually like to re-watch a lot of the Oscar films with my family--Spotlight, Brooklyn, and Bridge of Spies.
As a horror fan, I'm VERY much looking forward to The Conjuring 2 coming out on Friday.

I saw The Lobster this weekend. It was definitely a WTF movie and opinions were mixed among the friends I saw it with. I liked it, but would not give a general recommendation to go see it unless you like weird, quirky indie movies.

Dh took me to the latest Jane Austen film, Love & Friendship, for a late Mother's Day gift.
It was very funny, wittily sarcastic. Kate Beckinsale was hilarious. Dh was amazed at how funny it was.
It was a limited release, and we had to drive down into the city to see it. We haven't left the 'burbs' for a movie or even an evening out in a long time.

I saw "Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping." I really like Andy Samberg and I thought it would be hilarious but it was just meh. I read a great review of it and the review didn't mention that Judd Apatow was the executive producer. If I knew that I would have never gone to see it, because Judd Apatow and I don't think the same things are funny, apparently.

MOVIE REVIEW 6/8/2016 Dead Pool (Ryan Reynolds, Alice from Twilight, and the voice of the Mucinex phlegm ball)
It has become apparent to me that if EVERYONE thinks a movie is hilarious, I bet I won't. I'm pretty sure that I'm funnier to watch a movie with than Ryan Reynolds, even with my obvious handicap of not having a pair of balls to reference in every other tired joke I tell. Plus I've already used every single disgusting insult used in this movie but most of you don't have to listen to me do it while I'm spackled up in makeup that leaves me looking like Ted Danson with skin cancer. You know those hotdogs at 7-11 that have been rolling around for like four days, looking all burnt and puffy and somehow dry and moist at the same time? Picture that + Ted. I wondered if that was EXACTLY what Ryan instructed the makeup artists to do as he sat down in that chair each morning at 3AM or whatever godawful time actors begin each day. I bet he stopped in each morning, told the cashier to find his oldest and grossest weiner, and came in and set it right down on the makeup table, next to like some old still shot from Cheers.
So, this started out fairly promising as the body count almost immediately began soaring. YESSS! Not since Arnold's glory days have so many died even before the opening credits have finished! But oh my god, the lame jokes. Asses and Fists and Balls, oh my! Only the distinct lack of B.O. kept me grounded to the reality that I was on my own couch in my own living room--I kept expecting a towel-snap to the privates at any second, because I could have sworn I was in a junior-high boys' locker room.
There is plenty of action and I like that there were even a couple of XMen, albeit not hot ones like Wolverine or the young Magneto, but still. There's a romance of sorts, and some sidekicks. Lots of rotating slo-mo exploding glass and gushing blood. Plenty entertaining, but over-hyped, I guess. It had a few laughs. TJ Miller (Mucinex) might be one of my very favorite character actors ever (he's on HBO's Silicon Valley, among other things) but he was sort of underutilized here.
Ladies, if you're seeing this to make a man happy, don't. If you're seeing it because Ryan Reynolds, don't. If you love making your teenage son uncomfortable, go out and rent this IMMEDIATELY and suggest he watch it with you, like I did! *awkward*

I haven't joined this thread before but I've been trying to become more of a movie-watcher, so have enjoyed catching up! I took my daughters to see Alice Through the Looking Glass last weekend. We all enjoyed it. Crazy, as-per-the-norm Alice fun with kooky characters. I'd give it 4 / 5 Pea stars. I saw The Boss with my hubby (Melissa McCartney comedy). Silly and fun. Not the best comedy I've ever seen but I enjoy her. A little crude humor here and there but overall, we had a few good laughs. 3.5 / 5 Pea stars! I watched The Fifth Wave with my son and his friend. I am not really into Sci-Fi or Hunger Games/Divergent-esque stuff, but they seemed to enjoy it. 3 / 5 Pea stars Lastly, I recently saw Zootopia with 2 of my kids. We all enjoyed it. I thought it had a good message. 4 / 5 Pea stars I'm really looking forward to seeing Me Before You with my 13 DD. Hopefully soon! Tonight, hubby is at work overnight so I think I am going to try 10 Cloverfield Lane based on the good reviews here.

I watched Me Before You over the weekend. I also read the book. It's been a few years since I read the book, but from what I remember, I thought they did a great job sticking to the book. I agree with others who said the actress, Emilia Clarke, who played Lou did a fantastic job. Just the expressiveness in her face--oh my word. I loved everything about her. I don't watch GoT but is she as amazing in that show? Everybody did a really good job but she just SHONE. My dh and dd aren't romance movie fans but now I really want them to see this. I'm also hoping, after seeing this movie, that the book sequel will also head to the big screen. Anyone heard if that's happening.
lol...the lead actress is sort of reminiscent of Alice from Twilight. I love both of their looks--I guess that's the look that appeals to me. I love Morena Baccarin though. She was really good in Homeland. I didn't love Deadppol the way everyone else did. My kids and dh loved it. I didn't hate it but didn't love it either. I would never want to watch it again, let'w put it that way.

I saw Me Before You the other day with my book club. We were all really happy with the way the movie felt so much like the book. Many of us thought in some ways the movie was better. The mother was a little more likable and so cold and ridged. I also liked that they left out all the stuff about the father cheating on his wife. I didn't feel that it didn't add anything to the story and was unnecessary. Loved Louisa and the guy who played Will did an excellent job.

Anyone going to see The Conjouring 2? I like scary movies with little gore. I liked the first one.
My teens have begged and begged to see Dead Pool. We rented it through vid angel. It's an online streaming service with filters. I'm wishing we had put a bit more filters on the gore scenes. I had to look away. There were so many crude jokes and most made me laugh.
