My entire life, people have asked if I spell my name Jennifer or Jeniffer. Jennifer was the number 1 name the year I was born, so I have known lots and lots and lots of Jennifers over the course of my life, and never once have I met anyone who spells it Jeniffer. But it must be common given how often I am asked. I just received an email addressed this way.
Has anyone ever actually known anyone who spells it this way?

Never and I was born in the 70s too, so I know a lot of Jennifers as well. Double Fs just look weird. Maybe people just don't pay attention to how other people spell their names and they can't remember which letter gets doubled?

No, and I think the people who ask must not know how to spell. Back in the day, if I saw it spelled that way, I would have thought the parents didn't know how to spell, either. Like I know a guy (older than me) named Michael, only it's spelled Micheal. Does anyone want to know how much that grates on my nerves?!? However, these days I see so many creative name spellings that I just think it's deliberate now. I do know a girl (a grown woman, I mean, but younger than me) spelled Jennyfur.

I know a fair number of Jennifer's too but I know of no one that spells it Jeniffer. I've never seen it written of others that way either.

Not personally, but I'm sure there's some person, somewhere in my state who spells it Jenniffer, Jeniffer, Jenyfer, or Jenyfr.

I know or am acquainted with probably 3 dozen women named Jennifer--at least. And not a one of them was spelled Jeniffer.
Then if you take into account every time I have seen the name in books. magazines, newspapers, or online, or on TV or movie credits, again, never once have I seen Jeniffer.
Even "Jennifer" born actress, Ginnifer Goodwin, chose to go the double "n", single "f" route when going with her current variation.

Nope, never seen it spelled with two f's.
It kind of reminds me of "Swiffer" and the accent would be on the "iffer" part instead of the "Jenn"

I do like Matthew better.

No, but I did meet someone in college who didn't like to be called Jenny and said she preferred Niffer.

I know one... She was married to my cousin, but passed away 8-9 years ago. I know a handful of Jennifers, but she was the only one that spelled her name Jeniffer. I'm sure her name was spelled incorrectly all the time.

Never with two ff.

I agree that the double F variation does make it seem as though the accent would be on the middle syllable as opposed to the first syllable.

We have a daughter we named Jennifer, born in 1972.
And no - she was not named after "Jenny" (Ali McGraw) in the movie "Love Story". A movie I actually detest. (In fact, for the love of Pete, don't call her Jenny. Ugh. It's Jen or Jennifer. )
My Jennifer was named after a childhood friend of mine (spelled 'Jennifer'. )

My sister spells her name with one N and it was only recently than I met another 1 N Jenifer. My mom said she hated the name Jenny so she spelled it that way to avoid the nickname. Honestly having the most popular name in the 70's spelled an uncommon way was probably way worse than the nickname Jenny. I remember one time on a paper in high school in which I referred to my sister, I got it circled with a red pen and points deducted. LOL

I too am a 70's Jennifer and I have never seen a spelling get with two f's. I don't care for being called Jenny. I feel like I am 12. I prefer Jen or Jennifer. My DH calls me Jenny. I have a lot of friends with the same name. They all do by Jenny.

My DH has a male relative on his family tree and his first name is Jenifer. Just 1 'n'. There are a few generations of them back in the 18th and early 19th century.
I think lots of girl names started out as boy names and sur names.
I hate to see Jeffrey spelled Jeffery. So many people spell it like this that it became an acceptable derivation. I mean I know Geoffrey is the original spelling of Jeffrey, but Jeffery just irks me. Like is the guy called Jeff ER y? ...........

60's Jennifer here. My parents picked the name because they thought it was unique. While my name is spelled the traditional way, I did have a Lebanese math teacher in high school who always spelled it Jeniffer. That was only one of the many reasons I disliked him. I too have a particular distaste for Jenny. Jen, Jenn, Jennifer, Runt (my college nickname), all are preferable to Jenny.

Out of curiosity, I did a search in my company's address book, and came up with one Jeniffer. She's in Toronto

Someone on FB was complaining his morning that her name tag said "Jessica", when her name is spelled "Jesica". Yes, irritating, but your mom should have spelled it the way 99% of people do. I have a Jessica and I never would have spelled it a way where she couldn't at least get a key ring or license plate for her bike (when we could actually do that for our kids without the fear of them being kidnapped).

Jennifer is my name too and I also get that question sometimes: And how is that spelled?? ...sigh... "two Ns, one F"
I've never seen it spelled any differently, either!!
ETA: born in 1969, so it was popular, lol! My mom wanted to name me Jaime, but my dad didn't think that was a girl's name, so Jennifer it was. She would only agree if I would NOT be called Jenny. I've never felt like a Jenny anyway, and dislike it/ Although I will answer to it if someone I work with doesn't know me well enough to know that I dislike it.
Personally, I also reserve Jenn only for very close friends and immediate family; it's feels too intrusive when a casual acquaintance calls me that without asking me first. (my mom spells it Jen, even though I have never spelled it that way, lol!)

The girl who sat next to me in typing class in high school spelled it that way, but I guess it's pronounced Jen if fer versus Jen nif er. If that helps :-)

I have a neighbor/friend who spells it Jenifer (she's in her 70s), but I don't know of any Jeniffers. I think sometimes it's a case of someone having the wrong perception of how a name is spelled. My daughter's middle name is Nichole. I never looked in baby books or even gave the spelling much thought. To me, it's the female derivative of Nicholas and so when I filled out her birth certificate, I naturally spelled it Nichole. It wasn't until years later that I realized that it's not the common spelling of Nicole at all. And frankly, I still don't understand why. I wasn't doing it to be cute, trendy, or different - it just seemed like the correct spelling to me.

I have an older brother who my Mom named Micheal and I bet it was because she couldn't spell LOL! He goes by Michael in his life, more often simply Mike, despite his birth certificate and never had a problem. I never understood the creative spellings but to each his own, no judgment. It always complicates a childhood:/. My name is Mariellen, named after grandmas Marion and Ellen, thus the spelling. People see Maribeth, Marilou, Marianne and never think twice BUT Mariellen is seldom pronounced correctly. I fixed the problem and became Mari haha. Jennyfur is ridiculous. Is that her given name or did she adopt it for herself?

I really think it's because people know there's a double letter in there somewhere ... and they know for damn sure it's not the J or the I. I have to stop and think about vacuum. I always want to throw another c in there.

I have a niece with it spelled that way, with the same nickname. Her sister has a similar common name also spelled creatively. Or should I say, cre8ively? DH has the middle name Frederic. At one point I'm not sure what happened, but he misspelled it 'Fredric' when he renewed his driver's license and it wasn't caught. When he was filling out the paperwork for his college diploma, he went to spell it the wrong way. I noticed and said, "That's not how you spell it. There should be another E in there." He argued with me and said it was right, so I looked through his stuff and found his birth certificate and I was right! LOL. So now anytime we have to do anything legal, he has to fill out all this other stuff for the A/K/A because he didn't know how to spell his own name! One of my BFFs had a good laugh about that one because her DH has the middle name Kieth. It was supposed to be Keith. Yes, his mom spelled it incorrectly for his birth certificate! He spells it the correct way now because it has grated on him his whole life that his mom spelled it wrong.
