We are planning a trip to Disney next summer. It will be hot. I am trying to find some dri-fit type clothing now with the hope that I can catch some end-of-season sales. So yesterday I bought a black Fila Sport running skort. My 15 year old dd took one look, utterly horrified, and asked "Where are you going to wear that?" She is soooo not impressed with my wear-a-skort-to-disney plan. Give it to me straight peas - should I return the skort or is it perfectly acceptable for my 40something year old self to wear a running skort to Disney?
So I had to come back to post an addendum to this thread... Youngest DD had a soccer tournament last weekend so I decided to give my skort a test run in the heat and humidity. Got to the field and was one of MANY soccer moms wearing skorts. I gave my oldest DD a glance and she just rolled her eyes. She did finally confess what she has against skorts - it's simply that she thinks it's silly to exercise in a skirt. "Why not just wear running shorts if you're going for a run?" (Apparently wearing them for tennis is ok.) So naturally, it's even sillier to wear them if you are NOT actually exercising. Teenage logic? On the bright side - I did feel cooler in my moisture wicking skort and tank than I did the next day in shorts and a cotton t-shirt.

I think it would be fine. I would do it and I'm in the 40something age. In fact, I just wore a jean skort recently. I like them!

Show her pettipants on Amazon. See what she thinks then! A skort is fine!

Aren't teenage daughters SO lovely to live with? Go for it. There's nothing wrong with it. Disney World is not only the happiest place on earth, but in the summer it's also one of the hottest. You'll be amazed at what people are wearing. And there's NOTHING wrong with the running skort. You'll be cooler in it and when it gets wet (whether by rain or rides), you'll dry a whole lot faster than she will. Mom WIN!

That is all I wore on a weeklong stay at DisneyWorld in March where I celebrated my 51st birthday. I think they look nicer than shorts.
I'm packing right now for a trip to VA Beach and guess what I'm packing? Skorts! More specifically, these:

Oh, here is the skort in question: It is fine. Why is she horrified? Well I am being a little tongue-in-cheek with the word "horrified," but she is definitely not impressed with the skort. Not exactly sure why other than her taste in clothing is different than mine. Show her pettipants on Amazon. See what she thinks then! A skort is fine! Great idea!

I hate to break it to your daughter but that looks more like a skirt than a skort. Plus it's FILA and is pretty attractive. I really like it. Plus who wants chaffing?

I have a large collection of their sports because they are very well-made, stylish, hold up to washing, etc. I even run in them. Althleta is a Gap company. Your daughter would even find stuff she likes with them.

Great idea for Disney-I'll have to look for some, too. We're planning a Disneyworld trip for next June.

At your worst, you will like better than 99% of the people at WDW. People are hot, sweaty, cranky and tired. No one will be looking at what you're wearing. Tell your dd to take a chill.

Hadn't hear of skorts and had to engage google. I'm sure that with your stunning legs you won't let the side down.

Dang, those are cute skirts. I see a trip to Athleta in my future. I agree with all the others - it is fine, you will look great and be comfortable. How often can we say that haha? Have fun! I am so jealous!!!

I think it looks great! I wear skorts all the time and don't think twice about it...I also have a 15 year old daughter and I'm 45 and short...skorts are better for me than most shorts.

I agree it looks fine and looks comfy too. She's a teen and I know when I was that age anything my mother did "horrified" me and now my daughter is 11 and I am sure I "horrify" her too. Like someone else said you will already look better than most there and no one is going to be looking at your clothes there. If they do so what...like you will ever see them again right? Be comfy and dry!

Honestly? I would go for what is most comfortable. As others have said, Disney in the summer is as hot as the fires of hell. It is all concrete, and when the sun beats down on you, you want to have as little touching you as possible. For example, today the high at my house is supposed to be something like 91? 92? But Disney? It's 99. Now, I think an 8 or 9 temp variation is kind of extreme considering I am only 45 minutes away, but my son pointed out that they may be taking the ambient temp of the heat/concrete thing into consideration. I would wear what ever you find most comfortable and if that is a dry fit skirt? Then rock it sister. Your daughter will be sorry she made fun of you.

I'll go against the grain and say that I get the horror. I hate skorts. BUT... if you are comfortable wearing it then you should wear it. It's like wearing dresses and/or heels all the time (or really any of the time)... I can't stand it and think it's the worst thing ever but others love it and think it's the most comfortable thing ever. I think they are nutso, but it's not my body/comfort to worry about.

You're not asking her to wear it. You're wearing it. DD needs to hush. It's a cute skort, as were the others posted. You'll look great.

Is it a skirt in the front and shorts in the back, or a skirt all the way around with built-in shorts under it?
I do think skirt in front/shorts in back is pretty awful looking, but I don't care what anyone else wears. Skirt all the way around with built in shorts - fabulous!

So glad you all have my back! I hate to break it to your daughter but that looks more like a skirt than a skort. Plus it's FILA and is pretty attractive. I really like it. Plus who wants chaffing? Exactly! I think sometimes "skorts" look like shorts from the back and a skirt from the front and I don't care for that style very much. This one looks like a skirt all the way around, with built in shorts underneath to prevent chaffing and for modesty when riding roller coasters! Athleta. I have a large collection of their sports because they are very well-made, stylish, hold up to washing, etc. Althleta may be a little more than I want to spend and I hesitate to buy before I can try something on... I might have to just take the plunge though. What kind of shirts do you wear with those petal skirts? Hadn't hear of skorts and had to engage google. I'm sure that with your stunning legs you won't let the side down. Ha! My legs were maybe stunning 20 years ago. But their current state isn't completely horrible so....

Well I'll be 50 this year and wear a skort to Disneyland all the time. They are comfortable, cute, cool and dry fast when you've been on a water ride. Wear it with pride. You'll be glad you did.
ETA: mine is a skirt all the way around with shorts built in underneath as well.

She's 15. Nothing you will wear will please her. I'd wear that because it looks comfortable and I wouldn't flash people getting on and off rides.

I don't know where you live, but I know that there are a couple of actual Athleta stores around here in NoVA. That said, I rarely go there to buy my skorts (which are skirts all the way around and very light bike shorts underneath) because I am a consistent medium in their sizing. I wear activewear tanks or short sleeve tops with them. No tucking in for me. I actually like many of Target's Champion line of activewear tops and also Old Navy's activewear tops. Both are MUCH more affordable than Athleta, but are cute, comfy, work well in the heat and dry quickly. If I could get the same quality and style in skorts for less, I would, but Athleta is the best for me (believe it or not there are some more expensive brands of activewear out there).
