Because men are disgusting!!! I'll share a bathroom with transgendered people all day long. But men, ugh!
I just used the bathroom at Starbucks and there was pee and poop all over the toilet. The seat was up... So I am going to, fairly or unfairly, assume it was a man.
Do you think we could just have bathrooms for MEN and then bathrooms for EVERYONE ELSE?

I'm sorry you had a gross experience. I worked at a gym in college and the men's locker rooms were always by far more clean than the women's. I wouldn't assume it was a man just because it was messy.

It's not a man or woman thing---it's a "your momma didn't teach you to clean up after yourself thing"!!!!
I've been in public women's bathrooms that were just as disgusting!

Having worked in a restaurant in my early days, I can tell you women are equally disgusting.

Lol! Totally agree! My sister works at an office with unisex bathrooms. She works with very educated men and women with lots of letters after their names. And some men still never learned to lift the seat when they pee and put it down when they're done!

women are nasty cows. the seat might have been up so he didn't have to go near it.
I once had a garage sale at a local community center place. We were the only ones using that space that day. I saw a woman use the restroom and then after bit I went in to use it. She had literally smeared shit all over the toilet, floor, wall. God I was pissed off. Nasty bitch.
ETA: on the other hand, I worked in a glass shop for a couple years with mostly guys. I banned them from using the womens restroom because they were always leaving it gross. I also refused to clean their bathroom and the manager had to do it. Flat out refused. I'll clean up my mess, but I'm not going to clean up guy messes (imagine too much coffee every morning!)

This! Nine times out of ten the men's room is cleaner. Women are NASTY! They pee all over the seat because of hovering, throw towels on the floor after opening the door, and leave hair all over the sink; most men put the seat up so there's no pee on the toilet, throw the paper towels in the trash, and they don't spend time grooming in a public restroom hence clean sinks.

The pee and poop were on the porcelain bowl, not the seat. It was a man.
I agree women can be pigs, too. But at my school, where we have TWO male employees, the bathrooms are always clean. Well--the adult ones. The kids bathrooms are a completely different story. I have to have weekly discussions about why there is poop on the wall and crayons in the toilet. And it's always the boys.... Never the girls. Maybe I'm a bathroom sexist.

honestly, the women's room is way nastier. Not only can women be gross there's lots of little kids in there (diapers!) and women who for whatever reason can't figure out their period issues. The mens room isn't bad ....

At my office I have never been in the men's restroom but I doubt it could much worse than the women's. Besides the standard toilet related messes and grossnes, hair in the sink just makes me crazy.

I don't think it's a gender thing as much as a "wasn't taught to clean up after myself" thing. I used the guest bathroom at a friend's house that is only used by their college age DD and company. It was far worse than any public bathroom I've been in. The mom just shrugged her shoulders. THAT is the problem, not gender.

My kids and I just had this talk last night while discussing Transgender people in the bathroom.
If I have yo go, I don't care who is in there provided they:
Flush the damn toilet Don't get pee or poop on the seat, floor, wall... Wash their hands after
I've been in some nasty women's rooms and I can't figure out why someone doesn't flush and who the hell smears poop?

Yes, like the Target I was in today. Holy cow, both my mom and I said something about how dirty it was. Right down to the used pad on the floor. *gag* I shop there regularly have never seen it so grossly uncared for.

I see a lot of homeless people using the bathroom at Starbucks so I won't use it. Until multi-stall bathrooms no longer have gaps between the doors, I do not want men in the ladies room.
women who for whatever reason can't figure out their period issues. The mens room isn't bad .... At my last job one stall frequently had a bloody tampon on it. I figured the one person had a favorite stall and never looked to check that the toilet actually flushed her tampon.

I have always found men's restrooms to be nasty, plus they smell like pee. Anyone can be a slob, but men's rooms, in my experience, are always dirtier and the pee smell (from bad aim) about knocks me over.
Where I work, the men's room is truly disgusting and it is professionally cleaned weekly. They try to come in ours because it "smells nice" and "is always clean", their words. I bought Poopouri for both restrooms and put up signs how it works, the one I put in their restroom disappeared within half hour, we're guessing one of them stole it.

For me it is the smell... Not pee or poo smell, the a man who doesn't live with you smell. I would say pheromones but then you all say I was crazy.

And Starbucks is on a kick to only have 1 bathroom which is SO not logical. At our local store, they actually deliberately removed the men's bathroom to put in storage for their supplies. Every single barista is pissed off about it. I was talking to one of the male baristas and he said to me that he feels sorry for any woman having to follow a man in the one space - he said he's gagged and actually gone over to Baja Fresh 2 doors down to use theirs instead!
Used to have a client and we nicknamed him "sprinkles" - it was everywhere in the guys' bathroom. But I just don't want to follow some of the men I see go in the Starbucks bathrooms - I just don't.

I walked into a unisex bathroom once with this sign above the toilet. "If you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie and wipe the seatie." I thought it clever.

I work in a professional office. The building itself is extremely nice, expensive furnishings, expensive silk wall coverings and large scale photography, expensive coffee machine with about fifteen different flavors, etc. We have had to have a plumber out twice in the last six months because men keep putting gum in the urinals.

The only places that gender neutral bathrooms really gross me out are on trains and planes. Men should not pee standing up while on moving vehicles. I'm going to blame it on men because I can't imagine that a women would have the requisite plumbing to pee up the back wall.

That is much nicer than the signs I used to see: If you miss when you p*ss, please be neat and wipe the seat*. DH and I visited a place where they fabricate granite. It wasn't a showroom, just where the guys cut it, etc. I had to pee really bad. DH did too so he went first. When he came back out he told me to *hold it*. He said it was the filthiest bathroom he had ever seen.

I agree. Women are worse. And all the damn hovering. Yes! The nastiest ladies bathroom ever is in Kohl's on senior citizen discount day. There is pee sprayed on every surface in the stall from all the hovering. Good grief! Sit on the damned seat. Your mother was wrong, you are NOT going to "catch VD." Save

I'd like to agree that it's men who are the culprits but sadly in my experience women are no better. The shit - literally - that I see in our toilets at work.... it's mind boggling. Not too mention blood, wee and pubes left on the toilet seat. Oh, and as for assuming it was a man because the toilet seat was up - that's not necessarily the case either as I discovered late last year and documented in this thread.

What makes you think that mess was from a man? I've seen exactly the same thing in many a women's room. There are some disgusting people in the world, not all of them men.

I've known several people who worked cleaning crews in a corporate setting and it was universally agreed that the women's was always far nastier than the men's room.
I think many people could learn to be a little more considerate of those using the space after them, not to mention the cleaning crew.

I was going to say the same thing! When my husband and I are traveling and use public restrooms, it's usually me complaining about how disgusting the women's restroom is, not him complaining about the men's restroom. And he is a neat freak about stuff like that. I agree that it's not a gender thing as much as an individual thing.
