I started walking a couple weeks ago at a park by my son's dad's after dropping him off and really liked the trail and being outside. But that was just walking.
I used the treadmill because I was home and not half hour away dropping him off that day.
I went outside for the second day because I was by that park and had liked the outside.
But, the treadmill was easier and outside sucked, which is different than I expected it to be. I think it had to do with at home I was in air conditioning and had a fan directed at me, outside it was humid and hot.

My friend and I had a good short walk today instead of our normal long one. I forgot to turn off my phone app when we got back to the car and went a mile or so toward home before I remembered so my husband thought we had flown through our workout and was very impressed.
Tomorrow I am planning on going on the trail for a long walk - it will be my first time by myself. There are lots of people on the trail but we have only seen one lone female walker (the rest are running or on bikes). But I am tired of my neighborhood and need to put on some miles due to shorter workouts earlier in the week. So I am going to be brave and step outside of my comfort zone.

I went to an outdoor zumba class today and the teacher wasn't my style so for my workout I decided to run home. I'm finding now that I run faster in the morning on an empty stomach verses after work for some reason. I do fuel properly during the day.
Does anyone use the app Charity Miles? It's free to you and donates money to charities for miles you run. I just signed up.

Yesterday (Thursday) was intervals for me I do them with a group to make myself keep going. Rest day today and 12k tomorrow.

Get a referral to see an orthopedist - they will be able to pinpoint what is wrong/why your right foot isn't aligned. Then they will recommend how to fix it. Or a physical therapist. My right leg does a very similar thing & the PT I saw told me it's due to muscle weakness in my hips. I highly recommend working with a professional because they can help you pinpoint your problem quickly, but in a worst case scenario check out the myrtl routine. Also, squats are important, too. (I do the myrtl routine three times a week along with a bunch of other exercises including a few different types of squats. If I skip this routine for more than a week, I start feeling it in my legs.) My podiatrist was able to help when I had issues with my gait. I agree about finding a professional to help. Someone who can do a proper analysis on a treadmill etc.

I have a hard time doing a hard workout in the late afternoon or evening. For some reason I am a morning or early afternoon exerciser. Which sucks cause I love to sleep in.

Today I did something a little different. I did yoga in the morning and then went back to the gym and did the treadmill tonight! Yay! I didn't do it fast, or incline, I did it longer! Yayayay!

I was going to skip walking at all yesterday, then I thought I'd skip day 3 of C25K yesterday and walk instead, and this was all as I was changing clothes in the bathroom at the park! But once I walked out the door I thought, f* it, I'm here, and did day 3 and it felt GREAT! I even did a ten minute "tank top arms" workout when I got home.
I love this thread. I feel like I'm accountable because of it. :-)

I've got a lot of posts to catch up on! pb - I hope you enjoy that trail walk by yourself! annabella - I'm glad you enjoyed the group run! I have a friend that uses Charity Miles. I chose not to use it after reading the fine print ... You have to post the miles to Facebook or it doesn't count AND they'll only pay the charity IF they reach 1 million (I think that was the number) miles posted. Also, I already run with two apps tracking me and I don't want to drain my battery further. I definitely need to run in the morning on an empty stomach. Even for half marathons, I can't eat before I go. maryannscraps - I hope you're feeling better by now. Sometimes it's a good idea to listen to what our body is telling us, especially when you're dealing with something like Lyme Disease. Delta Dawn - congrats on the farther distance! You can totally manage any distance you want without a bear chasing you ... you just have to work up to it! ~Susan~ - the humidity came roaring back here this week, too. It is such an energy drain! Great job on increasing your distance & meeting your goals! Kymberlee - That's some dedication to your speedwork! I'm impressed. janeliz - I'll have to check out that Paul Simon song. I have "I Know What I Know" on my running mix. elaine - You know, I don't bring water on my 4 miles runs, but maybe I should start. The heat & humidity are no joke. candygurl - sounds like you got a good workout in! JustTricia - I'm glad you're here! I saw a post on Instagram a few weeks ago & now I say it to myself all the time when I'm trying to talk myself out of a workout: "While you're over there thinking about it, I'll going to be over here doing it!" cakatie - That sounds like an interesting app - I like how they're mixing it up. anniefb - Good luck on your 12K today! I got my 4 in yesterday. It was better than Tuesday's effort, but still not great. I haven't decided yet how long my long run will be tomorrow - somewhere between 6-10 miles, I guess.

I took a couple days off because I was just too sore and achey. Yesterday I ran for about 15 minutes and started feeling sore, so I switched to the elliptical for another 15 minutes. That felt pretty good, so I think it might be the running muscles that are bothering me. So then I added 15 minutes of hill walking, and that was also better than the running. The cross training may help me out. Perhaps my joints aren't keeping up with my cardio fitness, so I'll try to mix it up and not hurt myself.
Thanks! I just downloaded the myrtl routine. I think that may be part of my problem. I'm going to do them today.
I was thinking that since I caught the Lyme disease pretty early, it wouldn't be a blip on my radar. Hah! It's kicked my butt. If you're running outside, please do a daily tick check. If a deer tick has been on you for less than 24-36 hours, it won't have had time to transmit Lyme disease. I never saw the sucker that got me, but got the bulls-eye rash. Unfortunately, the rash only shows up in about 50% of the cases. If you're having a fever, aches, and joint pain in the summer, check with your doctor. It could very well be Lyme.

hi all! I've gotten 3.5+ miles in each day this week and am loving it. I've always wanted to be someone who runs 3 miles a day and feel so good about it.
I also stepped out of my comfort zone (neighborhood) and am running out in the "real world". I love my neighborhood, but its only 38 houses so i had to double back on every street 2 or 3 times and that got old. I really like my new route, and it does add some elevation (a small amount) to my workout.

Hi ladies - just have to comment on the apparel posts. Since I'm a teacher and off for the summer it's been working best for me to run late in the morning, but I don't want to get that much sun on my chest and arms, so in addition to sunscreen and a hat I ordered and have been running in a light long-sleeved mock turtleneck. I am sure I look ridiculous but it's working to keep the sun off me, so I don't care!

I often have to talk myself into getting out there and doing it, but I never regret it once I'm out there! LOL Have you picked out a 5K race to run when you're ready? I did week 3 day 1 yesterday and it felt awesome. I never thought I could "run," but it turns out that with the right shoes and a program that lets me work up the time/distance gradually, I can! I'm so excited.

Boom! Got my long run in this morning (11 miles), and I am so happy to have that out of the way this weekend. Me and my BRF went to a trail near my house and although it was super hilly (kill me), it was nice because we were out of the sun. We saw lots of deer, a fox and a tiny, little snake. We ran around a lake, over quite a few wooden bridges, and next to some beautiful streams. I love to trail run. My legs are so sore right now and my feet are super tender. Ouch. My planters is still talking to me which is frustrating. For those of you doing the C25K, good for you. That is the program that I used when I started running, and I remember the days when I thought I would NEVER make it through a workout. It helps that I always had a plan and I knew what I was supposed to do. Keep at it!! It gets easier although it never gets easy. At least, it never gets easy for me.

Today I ran for meatballs. Seriously. I walked the dog for 2 miles with my neighbor and then changed into my running gear and ran 4.15 miles because I had promised to take my boys down to IKEA for lunch today for Swedish Meatballs. It was a great motivator! I love those meatballs with gravy and lingonberry sauce. Yum!
I also changed my ratio back down to 1:30 running/1:00 walking and was faster today than I've been in a couple of weeks. I am just fascinated that for me, shortening the running time results in faster miles than say a 2:00 run/1:00 walk mile. Go figure! Jeff Galloway certainly got it right.

Just wanted to say I love that couch to 5k program! I started with it 2 years ago and have ran a few races, including a half marathon. I run another half in a few weeks.
I will never forget the nervous excitement I had for my first 20 minute run and the great accomplishment I felt when I finished!

I found that to be true too, Elaine. I was running 3:00-3:15 and walking :45 and getting slower with each increase. I dropped down to 2:30/:30 and started beating previous times. (Love that Runkeeper tracks all that for me!) Kymberlee - congrats on the 11 miles! Did you ever decide if you were going to do that race before your 1/2?

Yoki, I am a sucker for peer pressure. My girlfriends talked me into it, but it does make sense. I have to get the miles in anyway, and I might as well do it on a supported course with friends. Plus, I get a medal which is always a good motivator. I bumped my intervals up today doing 3/1. I was doing 2/1 and I liked it, but I thought I would try bumping the run up to see how I liked it. I actually liked it better, but it is hard to tell if I was faster because I was on a hilly trail today. I might try 2:30/1 for the 20K just to see. According to my mile time, that would be the best interval for me. I dunno…I like intervals so much better and I think my body agrees with me. Mentally, I can tackle the bigger distances better which is a huge bonus. I am a head case when I have a long training run on my schedule. I dread them so much, but if I want to run the big races, I just gotta do it.

I kept on running, because i figured i would get home (and out of the rain) faster! And now that you say it i do feel like a badass!! 3.7 miles w/avg pace of 12 min mile (including my 5 min warm up walk!).
