I'm running a glow in the dark run tonight, however the forecast calls for 75% rain. I'm nervous about running in the dark in the rain. I have a birthday party afterwards so my hair will look terrible.

I have not been very productive this week. Thankfully school starts next week so I won't have to worry about what to do with my 6 yr old while I run. I did apply for my first job in 10 years (been a sahm). It's watching kids at the gym in their Kid Zone and it comes with a free gym membership. I interviewed this morning and I'm really hoping I get it!

Agh. I was so excited to do my week 3 day 2 run tomorrow, but I woke up this morning with a twinge in my lower back. Went to a yoga class I had already planned to attend thinking the stretching would help, took it easy and felt really good during the class, but now can I barely move.
Not sure I will be able to run, but don't want to lose the momentum I've got going.

We got to see the players up close and the boys got some autographs. It was just me with the boys, so I was hauling the cooler and the folding chairs with my broken wrist. Lots of hauling and toting. Man, RGIII is a hottie! Yowza! I can't wait for next Monday night when we will see them play the Browns. I will see how I feel when I wake up tomorrow before I decide whether I'll run tomorrow or Monday....

Hi runners, how do you know how fast to run? I know how to walk and how fast I like to walk and how fast I really walk. I am just wondering about running. I don't want to look like an idiot (which I will regardless) but when I was in school in track and field I tried (and failed) to run 100m successfully. If I were to run 20m how fast do I need to start out?

If I were to run 20m how fast do I need to start out? You need to be able to talk while running. If you are breathing so heavily that you can't talk, you are running too fast for you. For me, I also want to be able to run a half-marathon, so I need to be running slow enough that I can keep it up for 13 miles. For each person those paces are going to be different. For me, at 51 years old, my pace is between 11:00-13:00 per mile, depending on weather, hills, hydration, etc. Since I am a run-walk-runner, my running pace ends up being around 9:00 mile and my walking is probably around 14:00 per mile, and it averages to that 11:00-13:00 mile. Honestly, if I were younger, I know I would be concerned with speed and want to WIN! At this point, I'm happy that I am physically able to run, and am more concerned with stamina and distance than speed. I don't know if that helped answer your question at all!

No the most important thing you said was in the first sentence. You have to be able to talk while running. I did not know that and will keep it in mind. If I can't talk I am running too fast. Thank you, Elaine. That makes a TON of sense to me now!

I am going for my first run today in about 3 weeks. It has just been too hot to run for so long. And by the time it cools down below 29C it is well into the evening and I don't feel like it. But I am going to get ready and go in about 45 minutes. Will update how it went later today.
