I admit I've played this game and can say it is set up to make a racket from people that spend money on games, but the woman in this article takes the cake in victimization. Really lady? It ain't KK fault, it's your kid's. Quite honestly, this should have taught the woman a hard lesson. Don't give your kids a password to purchase shit on the iPod. Quit blaming someone else. Own up to the fact that your kid did that. He knew what he was doing. He wasn't stupid. Um, no. Lady, your kid is not a victim. It is like any other iPod game Apple makes. It is designed to make you want to spend, but there is absolutely no imperative to do so. He spent more than he should have. He is not a victim. The game does not override parental parameters. In 2 hours, my 4 year old made over $800 in purchases on my Kindle. Since he was 4, I called Amazon and they kindly refunded all of it. He usually doesn't get much play time on it at all, but I was deep cleaning, and needed him entertained!
He was 4...if he was 11 like the kid in the op, I would be pea-livid with him! He would be figuring out a way to make money to pay back what he spent. At 11 he can read and knows what clicking the "buy" button means.

You know not everyone is smart enough to understand technology and a lot of these games are designed to take advantage of that...now that does not absolve you of responsibility, but its not cool that there are games that basically target people who don't have the know how to lock down their phone.

Learn your damn device and don't give your kid free reign to the iTunes store if it has your card on it. Put a password on the store that your kid doesn't know. Or, if you are ok with a monthly budget, link the iTunes account to a Visa or Mastercard debit that doesn't go into credit. Or buy iTunes gift cards as a means to curb the spending The premise of these games to make money aren't rocket science. |

It's about gaining fans through personal appearances, photo shoots, having a large wardrobe (one of the places they like to hook you for the Ka$h) and working your way up to a list celebrity. It's a vapid game, but strangely addicting. It's Kim Kardashian's version of that Farmville. |

NO. Just no. If someone is really not smart enough to use the features on their phone, then they have absolutely no business passing it off to anyone, much less a kid, to use. The amount of grown-ass adults out there whining that they shouldn't be responsible for something that they are in fact responsible for is beyond ridiculous. Stupidity does not absolve you of your responsibilities. If someone is really that ignorant about their phone, they could always stop by their carrier's stores or kiosks and get some assistance. If that's too much for them to handle, then they have no business whatsoever owning a smartphone. SMH |

I downloaded it to see. It is very clear when things cost money. And has ways for you to earn the items that cost money for free. But of course takes time. That's like just about every flipping game on iTunes. But you have a choice to spend. If you (general you) don't realize this, you (again, general you) have your head in the sand. The problem here is mom is too busy calling Kim Kardashian Satan (she could be, maybe), but not taking responsibility for her own situation. Farmville or any of those other games are just as bad, but she's looking to admonish KK. That's it. That's all. I think this mom simply wetting her panties from excitement because she thinks she has an excuse to publicly call Kim Kardashian vile and trashy. I guess I choose not to spend money and time on those games. I guess I think its a waste of money just like some people think Disney is a waste of money. Scrap power, No need to get upset because I don't enjoy the same things you do. And I Jbeans, I do agree about the parents being responsible...I'm not sure if anyone is hearing that part.

No, you don't have to spend money at this game. That is Scrappower's point. I've been playing this game (I know, revoke my pea card) and I haven't spent money on it. The game was free to download and free to play. I just can't get all these extras and I have to wait for my timer to refill. The point we're all saying here is the parents didn't take proper responsibility and are looking for someone, other than themselves and their kid to blame. |

I was coding on a Commodore 64 in the freaking dinosaur ages, I'm no technology neophyte. I bought a smart phone for my own business purposes - which had absolutely nothing to do with games. I remember when the outrageous in App purchase charges first hit the news. I had no clue that this market actual existed. I don't play those games, and hadn't come across it at all. But I had downloaded a few games for my kids to entertain them when we were stuck somewhere. I remember being more than a little annoyed that when I went into settings, the default was to ALLOW in App purchases (hopefully Apple has changed that setting). Considering how user unfriendly Itunes is - it wouldn't surprise me at all that many, many kids know their parents' passwords. It's a clunky, ridiculous piece of crap software that if Apple hadn't produced would have been universally boycotted. But I suppose that's for another thread. |

I would not be surprised if the child was using the mother's phone to play on the App and she didn't have the controls on. I can't imagine my 11 year old wanting that app on his phone but if he was playing with my phone for a while he might look at it to see what it was about.
