Sometimes, you really *do* win the lottery

I am 3 years out from my chemo--my oncologist told me I needed to wait 2 years, but it took another year to get things going fertility-wise (testing of my previously frozen embryos; tried to make more eggs; had a few cycles cancelled because I didn't ovulate, etc).  I had a triple negative breast cancer, so no ongoing tamoxifen or anything like that.  I started having periods again ~6 months after stopping chemo, but they have been not very regular, and I would either not ovulate, or ovulate at a random time that didn't make sense, etc.  It's been fun at the fertility clinic trying to predict what was going on! I had to stop and restart meds a few times because my body would not cooperate.


The thing is--my fertility clinic tested my AMH and FSH levels back in 2013, before I started chemo, and again earlier this year when we decided to try to make more embryos.  My old levels were normal for my age (I was 35), but my new levels are normal for a 50+ year old woman (it was below 0.3).  Their suspicion is that my ovaries were extra affected by the chemo because I literally had an egg retrieval with heavy ovarian stimulation 3 days before I started chemo (I did 20 rounds total of dose-dense AC-T chemo).  


Also, it turns out that BRCA mutations, along with all the cancer implications, coincide with diminished ovarian reserves/decreased fertility earlier than most women.
