Quite honestly, eat less and exercise more <ducking from donuts being thrown at me> I started around my 40th birthday the end of July. Got myself a FitBit and installed the MyFitnessPal and FitBit apps on my phone. Was very diligent in entering all my food and not going over on my food intake. I walked more, often with a friend...that helped. Didn't always get my 10k steps, but did my best to keep my calories/exercise in the yellow or green. I've managed to lose about 25lbs without really trying that hard. Honestly I've been really bad about exercise/tracking the past few weeks, lost my motivation and kinda figured I'd just lay low throughout the holidays and re-start in January, but I'm still losing I think I finally got my body trained to eat only what I need. I definitely need to tone up and lose about 5-10 more pounds but it has been easier than I expected......kicking myself for not trying sooner.

21 Day Fix...but it involves eating less and moving more.

Go to myfitnesspal.com and calculate your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and TDEE (total daily energy expenditure). Once you have those numbers, eat less calories than that number. Easy peasy. Seriously.
Stay away from the diet pills or you'll set yourself up for yoyo rollercoastering and that's not good for your heart.
I have to be honest here, as long as you say you can't do that, you won't. It will change when you believe you can change it. Because you can.
@johhnysmom I guess I'll be having donuts chucked at me, too!

Eat less and walk more. Yeah, yeah...I'm right there with you because I KNOW that's what causes us to lose weight, and yet I don't do either. I have this lovely pressure cooker (I'm blaming elaine) so I make mac and cheese and rice pudding way too much. I lost weight years ago on Weight Watchers but not by doing it just online, I went to meetings. But with two kids in college now those meetings are not in the budget. But maybe you would be successful with it just online? Diet pills are bad for you. You could try My Fitness Pal, it's good for tracking your food and exercise. The message boards are good too, just don't mention "low carb" on the main board or you'll get rabid replies. Of course, if you've been around Two Peas long enough you're probably used to that. lol. But those anti-low-carbers over there take it to a new high. oy

Check out Forks Over Knives. It's really the only sustainable way of eating that I've found that gives results without feeling like I'm restricting the amount I eat at all. I don't worry about eating carbs and there is proven and published results not only showing weight loss, but reversal of many chronic diseases (Hypertension, Diabetes, Coronary Artery Disease, etc). Go in with a open mind and watch the movie. It's available on Netflix.

I've lost 18 pounds in 2 months on Weight Watchers. I do go to meetings, and I have a friend that started with me. We keep each other motivated.
My husband has even lost 8 pounds - which he wanted to do - without even trying, just by changes in my cooking. He is very happy to spend the $$ on WW, since it is apparently a two-for-one.
I could probably successfully do WW without the meetings, but that is because I have a friend doing it too. It is important, for me at least, to have some accountability that someone else knows about. It keeps me on track.
The other key for me is using the tracking app for everything I put in my mouth. The WW app makes it very simple! If you don't want to do WW, you can try just tracking using My Fitness Pal - it is a great food/Calorie tracking app. The key, of course, is eating fewer calories than you burn per day.
Pills aren't going to work in the long-run because the cold hard fact is that you need to change your lifestyle - how you eat and how you move/exercise. Getting older stinks, but it is a fact of life that for most of us our metabolism slows down and we will never be able to eat like we did when we were 18 without gaining a lot of weight.

I am not great when it comes to diets. I tend to rebel a bit when told I can't do something, and diets are nothing if not rigidly telling you what you can/can't do. The minute I hear I can't eat whatever, that is all I want and in great quantities. Personally, what did work for me was to not really tell myself I can't have something, but rather simply eat less of it. I made sure I always ate something at breakfast and then I would pretty much eat half of what I would normally would have for everything. It wasn't fast, but over the last couple of years I have gone down at least 5 sizes and am coming up on a size that I am comfortable with. I still eat the fun stuff-I don't tell myself I can't have cake, I just eat a significantly smaller portion of the cake. I think (maybe this is just me) I got to where I had a really skewed view on what portion sizes were and had stopped paying attention to when I was full. But that is what worked for me. Just as an FYI if it matters though-I don't eat any red meat or pork.

Weight Watchers, or 21 Day Fix. They are both great with portion control, which is usually a big eating issue.
No, there are no pills I would recommend. It truly is all about how you eat, and movement.

I just spent the morning reading and research weight loss programs. Here is my plan from now through Christmas. authoritynutrition.com/how-to-lose-weight-as-fast-as-possible/In short: -cut out starch/sugar/flour; -increase protein/vegetables/fruits; -exercise daily, alternating walking and weights -supplements: Glucomannan Green Tea Coffee -1 carb day/week Maybe we can have a regular update on progress for anyone working on this.

In addition to the eating less and moving more see your doctor to be sure everything is in normal ranges. I wasn't, once the Dr fixed what was wrong I started getting benefits from eating right and moving more. Prior to that nothing worked and there's nothing worse than eating right and excercusing all month and not loosing a thing.
Best of luck to you.

Cutting out carbs works for me. I am not extreme though. I won't cut fruit. But I do cut chips, potatoes, breads, desserts, etc. It works for me when I put a few pounds on.

Just as an FYI if it matters though-I don't eat any red meat or pork. I agree with all this. Also find some alternatives when possible. Lean Cuisine type meals have come a long ways, I usually have one of those for lunch. I found I liked to have something sweet after dinner. Special K and FiberOne both have 100cal-ish cookies/bars. I don't love yogurt (texture) but I found Chobani and Light & Fit both have greek yogurt with mix-ins for 100-130 cals/each, good for mid-afternoon snack, breakfast, whatever. Instead of chips I usually grab nuts or 100cal mini bags of popcorn I keep sugar-free gum and sugar-free jolly ranchers on hand so instead of eating out of boredom I just grab one of those basically what it comes down to is that I'm a realist and I'm rather lazy. I started out thinking i would fix eggs and low-cal toast for breakfast every morning, HA! that was unrealistic. I'm going to eat whats convenient and the veggie drawer is not going to be my first stop so I stock my fridge/pantry with easy low-cal stuff. Clearly I don't have an issue with preservatives My point is to be realistic, if you make it too complicated you won't do it and you'll be looking for the easy way out with pills or whatever.

Every body is different what works for one may not work for another.
For me i know i can't deprive myself of certain things. If i want carbs gosh darn I'm going to eat them! But i do limit how much i eat. MFP worked so well for me. It is really about knowing exactly what you are eating and how much that is "costing" you. Much like a financial budget know your limits and price of the items you are buying.
It took me a while to get in the right mind set so don't let it deture you if you get fustrated. I also wouldnt focus on losing weight starting now during the holidays. You'd be setting yourself up for failure. Maybe focus in not gaining weight then on losing weight in Jan. Don't sabotage yourself before you even start. Set realistic goals. Easier the better. Once you have some success then make things a little more challenging. Some thing as small as logging your food for a week is a good set. Don't worry too much about the calories yet. Just get in the habit of logging your food.

I have been following Atkins since July 1st and have lost almost 40 lbs. For some reason, this has been a really easy diet plan for me to stick with.

South beach is an excellent and healthy way to eat and the pounds will drop off. I would recommend getting the South Beach Diet book and actually reading it as it will explain a lot about nutrition and weight.
It is a low carb diet - a healthier Atkins. If you read the book it will likely change the way you look at food and weight.

I was diagnosed prediabetic last year and went off to a dietician. Her advise: the best diets are Mediterranean and vegetarian. A healthy vegetarian diet, not one based on cheese and bread.
Eat clean, and as non-processed as possible. Whole grain, watch your sugars.
And eat less, exercise more. My fitness pal and measuring your food is critical. I always over estimate my calories and under estimate my exercise.
Good luck.

I personally find that I am most successful when I track what I'm eating. On Weight Watchers, you're supposed to write down every little nibble or lick, which is a little extreme for me, but just being aware of what I'm eating on the whole really helps. Kind of puts an end to mindless eating (and the resulting empty calories.)
I just track in a planner/paper calendar since I don't have a smart phone. Also, the writing it down clicks with me more.

Weight Watchers online has been my go to. I found it easy to follow and easy to stick to. I track everything I eat and I know how many points I have left in a day. If I want something special for dinner, I track that early in the day and work my points around it. I don't feel deprived at all. I love it!

I watched fed up and forks over knives on Netflix and changed how I ate. Reduce sugar (in refined carbs and other sources). Cut out sugars from rice, potatoes, bread and pasta. Reduce sugars from dairy. Drink more water and eat more fruit and veggies. Cut out salad dressing and put lemon juice on your salad. Put your protein on your salad. Cut out red meat, reduce chicken and increase fish intake. Try lentils and low fat /carb beans instead of animal proteins.
This worked for me. I've always been active in the gym but realized that food is the number 1 factor when wanting to loose weight. Exercise just makes me heathlier / stronger. Reduce food and regular exercise is a powerful combination to feeling great about your body.

I've lost 80 pounds and kept it off doing just that. People are surprised when they ask and I tell them, but it works. Good luck with whatever you decide! ETA I use My Fitness Pal to track food and nutrients and walk 15-20 miles a week.

THM or Trim Healthy Mama has really worked for me ! Basically cutting out sugar and carbs - Eating the right combo of carbs/fat.
Once I quit sugar and carbs it is so easy for me to turn down breads/desserts// etc. but when I've tried WW and I am allowed to have a little here and there it doesn't work for me. I am an all or nothing kind of Gal.
Now to get back on THM and start losing weight and feeling better (kind of got off the eating right and need to get back on it)

Sorry but you have to do some sort of exercise, and change your eating habits. We stopped eating bread at home (out for sandwiches and dinner out is OK, but none at home). And reading labels and not buying products with HFCS (high fructose corn syrup). Other than those two things we eat the same. Eat a piece of fruit instead of candy.
And you don't have to join a gym, get a pair of sneakers and start walking.
Diet pills only lose weight from your bank account!

Getting a step tracker of some ilk will help with do-able exercise. Just work on increasing your daily steps until you hit the recommended 10,000 per day (approximately 5 miles).
