Awe, I think the LOL comments are all good natured, come on guys Are all you guys in Nor Cal? Here in So its beautiful and sunny today so far. We were supposed to get hit this morning but so far nothing.I know Nor Cal is out of the drought, but we here are still in extreme drought conditions, so please, bring on that rain, baby! I'm nervous about the planned protests tomorrow in downtown LA. I hope it POURS and keeps the riff raff intent on mayhem home. Saturday's women's march it should be dry, so the rain won't soak those..err..pink knitted kitty hats. I'm surprised you haven't had any rain. It woke me in the night and was still pouring when we got up at 6. Poor DS almost took me up on my offer to drive him and, to my absolute shock, took an umbrella! We have a lull right now so I took the pup out for a nice long walk. As someone who lived in the PNW most of my life, rain isn't the problem, but volume of rain with ground that can't absorb it is. And drivers that don't slow down (kind like how a little snow creates havoc in Portland and Seattle). I've never hydroplaned until living in southrn CA and that was definitely my scariest driving moment. There are big problems with our school designs that don't work when it rains. I've said it before, but our classrooms open to the outside and there are uncovered paths/sidewalks instead of halls between them. The cafeterias are completed open air with a few tables having shade canopies that don't really keep anyone dry. Elementary kids hang their backpacks and coats on hooks outside the classroom and there is no designated spot for them to move in if it rains. Kids that buy their lunch walk outside to the cafeteria, pick up their lunch tray and carry it back to the classroom in the rain. Teachers hate having the kids eat in the classrooms, but there is no other covered area. It is the same at the HS, except the kids carry any backpacks & coats into class regularly so the only problem is the smell of wet teens building during the day. Did you see Mario Lopez lost half his Hollywood backyard in a mudslide onto the road below after last week's rain? I can't image how much more will be washed away this weekend. SaveSaveSaveSave

I have sunshine and no black clouds. Less than an hour away from ntsf. I do think it's starting to get overcast again, though. In happier news, my broken car windows worked again this morning. I guess the genius child really did break them (control panel got wet when he opened the window?) and eventually it dried out again. No multi-hundred $$$ repair bill for me! no car-free day! yay!

Oh, that's good news Lucy! yay! I saw that about Mario's house, that was crazy! I know it was just the backyard, but if I were Courtney I'd be in a hotel until summer! I swear that's too close for comfort to me, the rest of that hill can come down, we've seen it many times before. I'll never forget what happened in La Conchita (north of Ventura) in that horrible mudslide that killed families and engulfed part of the town. Unbelievable to me there are over 300 people still living there under that hillside. They can't get insured, I know it's beautiful there but come on.

We got pummeled all night and into the morning. Thankfully it stopped right before my commute to work.

Sunny here in the OC for now. I learned how to lower the pool water level in case we get a lot of rain tonight. It was probably about time to learn that skill, but I actively avoid anything pool related because that's dh's territory. Unfortunately, he's traveling.

I know, right, Colleen? I do too.
I sure hope a lot of the residents that live butted up against the hillside are on highest alert. But then, the slides are so insidious, they just start and I imagine a large rumble but by then it's too late to get out of harm's way.

Been sunny for about 2 hours now but the dark clouds are rolling back in. I am sure it will begin to rain when it is timw to pick up ds and dd.

Very Northern CA here.. We've had blue sky, rain, blue sky, rain - ALL DAY so far! I wish it would pick one or the other. It was crazy raining around 5:30am. Wind was loud too!
Looking at weather in motion, seems like we're going to get more rain this evening. Then again all day tomorrow.

Had lunch outside at a beachside restaurant - was complaining about the cold - it was 65 degrees and we had heaters. The main topic of conversation was the upcoming storms. Now, I don't plan on leaving the house until the storms are gone. I love rain but I don't want to drive in it. I just don't get how you, cold weather people do it! Wait-what? 65 degrees and heaters?

Well, since we really need rain I'll just say it is going to complicate my first day at a new university. But its SoCal and we usually get 360 days of sunshine, so enjoy the change!

I was at school in Santa Barbara at the time and now dh was my fiance and living in Santa Monica, I was headed down for the weekend to visit. I ended up having to take a ferry (whale watching boat that they repurposed) from ventura to SB to get back to school and work. Northern California now. We have had more prolonged (12+ hours) power outages in the last month and a half that in the last 8 years. The hail/rain that came down around 5:30 the morning was deafening in my bedroom - there is a skylight above my bed. I am hoping that the city gets a break on Saturday...I'm headed up for the women's march and I don't have a raincoat!! I have been looking for the last week and can't find one anywhere!

I remember that day vividly. I had to be at work at 5:30 so I left at 4:30. It was raining buckets. I had just got past Ventura when I thought "this is nuts". So I got off at the State Beaches exit and headed back home. Called work and told them I'd try again once it was light out. Then the slide happened. I have never felt such a conflict of emotion. So sad for all the lives lost and the damage. But also so thankful I decided to turn back around. I missed the entire rest of the week at work.

Not California but I think we're getting the same storm tomorrow. It's been wet off and on. You wouldn't think it floods here but it sure does and most time if is heavy rain my mudroom floods. I'll still take it over snow any day!

I am a wimp. I caught a chill taking the dogs for a walk tonight.
I understand that it sounds weird for people used to rain and snow, but it isn't commonplace for us. I didn't even go into work today, I freak out driving in the rain, there are reasons.
I've never seen snow falling from the sky either, but I really hope to one day!

I think most people don't really understand that we regularly go several MONTHS with out rain much less a significant storm especially in Southern California. Plus with the drought it has been even more rare in the last few years.

And 65 degrees is t-shirt weather here. But it's all about what you get used to.

A friend went to go live in Hawaii for a year. When she came back, she thought anything under 70 degrees was freezing. That is how quickly she got acclimated to constantly warm weather.
