This is officially a deluge. Holy, cow, it has been coming down hard all day, and seems even worse right now. My 2 big dogs won't go out in it unless I'm with them, the spoiled babies. I'm so glad we had all of our drains cleaned out last spring. Our driveway used to be a pond when it rained.. This year it would be a lake. My dogs were the same way today, even the one who loves to stand in the rain. Now the news is saying lightening and thunder tonight. Oh great, now I'll have jittery dogs. It will be a long night of calming fears.

On my way home from work on Friday I thought there was a small puddle that turned out to be a lake, my car was completely under water for a moment. Scared the shit out of me. 2 years ago a friend of mine was in a car accident during light rain that ultimately killed her fiance 2 months before their wedding. I hate driving in the rain now and it's part of why I don't think jokes about bad weather in San Diego are funny. Glad you are ok! Sorry about your friend's fiance!

I think the last time it rained this bad was in in about 1995. Back then i worked in the South Bay area and lived in OC. I had to get off the freeway (405) on my way home because of flooding. The streets through Long Beach were not any better. That night it took me 3 hours to get home (usually a 45 minute drive in traffic). I remember that year. The street I lived on was flooded. I barely made it to my garage. The floorboard of my car was wet. Probably not the smartest move I've ever made, but I just wanted to get home. The water was almost up to our garages. The major street near my house was completed flooded and the news showed some guys paddling down the street in their rubber boat. As I was driving home there was this big flash in the background. Turned out water got into the underground power supply and blew it up. We were without power for most of the night. Right now, it is really windy! It is raining too, but I think the wind is making it seem worse.

It has been raining/pouring most of the day. I think we are supposed to get another two inches from this storm. The rea is flooded and many dry creek beds are now raging rivers or streams. There have been many swift water rescues today and not all successful. I am thankful that DH can work from home tomorrow. Some schools have been cancelled but not ours and I am not looking forward to drop off and pick up. We have avoided going out in the rain as many streets are flooded and that was on Friday. Nothing too dangerous for my short drive but I did drive through more water than I intended to and will alter my drive a bit to avoid a few intersections that have pooling of water than others and avoid a few lanes until I really have to - hoping I remember to turn and take a detour to avoid the area but routines are hard to break.
I hope everyone is staying safe. Seeing news from both San Diego and LA plus local stuff it's really scary out there. They have closed parts of the 15 today at various points. It is a major freeway out here not some little freeway so it's a pretty big deal plus lots of sideroads and I have see pictures of major flooding and tons of trees down that have done a lot of damage.

Ok someone just really decided we weren't getting enough rain and now it is really coming down the noise level just doubled I'm sure our gutters will be overflowing and not able to keep up again . I am so ready for a pt least a week of no rain and some sun. Yesterday was gorgeous but I want it to dry out a bit. I also hate knowing that most of the rain that falls around here just goes straight into the ocean. A bit goes into a reservoir but I think they were saying they are overflowing around here someone even posted a video of the local damm. I wish it would slow down a bit so I can go to sleep.

I'm grateful my house isn't leaking but when I left on Friday the water was pouring out of the lights in my classroom. Tomorrow is going to be fun! It makes me giggle when I drive past the water district and it says "water plants once a week". I haven't had to turn my sprinklers on for over a month!

Anyone experiencing thunder yet? Supposed to hit our area around 9am. We had a couple good gusts of wind last night that caused power surges. The rain hasn't let up and 30 min ago was very heavy again. At least the wind has sropped!
