Yes. I have done it. When I was 16, I had to irrigate and repackage my mom's vertical abdominal incision that was left to close from the inside out for months.
When dh fell and shattered both wrists six years ago, I did everything for him. I bathed, fed him, scratched every itch, and assisted him with every bathroom trip for almost three weeks. His hands were bandaged after surgery and he had to keep them elevated to prevent swelling. I even did most of that for the five days he spent in the hospital. Nurses were spread so thin that I slept in a chair by his bed.
