Did she eat the lettuce? It looked to me like she was eating her grain just now - or at least nibbling at it.

I turned off YouTube last night, turned it back on this morning and she's in the exact same spot! I thought maybe I had left it running and paused but nope she's just standing by Oliver, very still.
All those baby gymnastics last night had me wondering, for a second, if we'd see a baby this morning. Then I thought naw and went to bed. Lol.

4/4 Morning Update Morning Keeper report is that April continues to ignore grain, and back end swell is noticeably larger than day prior. We, like many of you, sat up in bed or were inches from our screens a few times last night. She keeps us guessing. Rest assured, all is well, there is no distress, no pain - she is simply (but slowly) advancing. From what we have been told from prior facility - when she has her calves - she calves very quickly - which has us all on our toes as it is! Giraffes should get yard time today - though we will watch the skys - as thunder storms are predicted and Lightning is a bad thing for giraffes! This will be our last post about text alert concerns; still a very small percentage of users have not verified their number with the system - but the resources are in place to do so and help! Check your enrollment - or get assistance at: aprilthegiraffealert.com/support.phpStill - all things April are found at www.Aprilthegiraffe.comGiraffe Factoid: "Are you going to finish that?" Giraffes are ruminants - which means their multi-chamber stomach processes their browse differently in each area, and allows them to regurgitate the food, to be chewed again to gain more nutrients. You may see April with what looks like chipmunk cheeks, this is when she has a fresh mouth of reguuuuurrr..we mean food!

4/4 Evening Update April continues to carry her great demeanor as you saw with Jordan, Corey, Joel and support staff today while cleaning the giraffe barn. She is big, udders are full, light discharge ----aaaannnnndddd thats it! She looks, and is acting, great! Another day outside and we expect more time tomorrow! ....... User Info The text alert system rolled out a test Labor Alert text this morning- and it managed to hit all subscribers in less than 17 minutes!! That is a major accomplishment considering the number of users! Thank you for supporting us and the giraffes and Giraffe Conservation with your subscription to Labor Alert & Baby Update. Sign up: www.aprilthegiraffealert.com/Trouble shooting and tech support is also on that site! The April The Giraffe Apparel store has added some really neat new items - and one particular shirt design I really like myself! Check them out: www.wwsport.com/r/AprilTheGiraffe.......... We wish everyone a good evening (or day) and as we've been saying - be patient - as hard as it is! Soon enough - it will all have been worth the wait and the watch.

That giraffe should demand a C-section or a movie deal. She's been having this thing since like February. Hell naw. Everyone looking at her vulva all day while she's trying to just live her giraffe life...it's wrong, man.

Meanwhile, Orla (Chester Zoo's Rothschild's giraffe) quietly gave birth on Monday, in full view of their cctv cameras. Search Chester Zoo on FB if you're fed up of waiting for April!

So if the cycle of the giraffe is about 17 days (remember seeing that on this thread) the vet/ keepers were out by about two full cycles!

Every morning I check this thread, knowing one of the peas will have posted she had her baby overnight, but nothing eh. Off to check for an update the work time. (I'd much rather be watching a giraffe, it's inventory day today )

Thank you, that was amazing, terrifying, but amazing. The poor baby giraffe just hanging limp, halfway out, then the terrible crash, what a way to enter the world! Then to get up in just a moment and wobble around! Amazing!

I think she looks less fresh now than she did a few days ago.
I think the park got a little too excited a little too fast (this is their first giraffe birth, after all). I have no doubt that the animals are being treated well, that's not of concern to me. I do think they jumped the gun with the feed, though. They should have waited until she freshened.
Does anyone know what Dr. Tim's background is? Again, not questioning his credibility, just curious if he specializes in exotic animals/giraffes.

4/5 Morning update Allysa is back on site and doing better from her cold - she appreciates your well wishes! She reports that April is in the same condition as reported on last night's "Evening Update". We have a new photo of mammary development in comments section. Today should yield additional yard time, as temperatures hover at safe levels and the rain as subsided. Watch for a new enrichment item placed in the Stall today, courtesy of an April fan! ................... Popular Fan Questions & Concerns The April Apparel store will not sell out of clothing, however designs are being rotated and once retired, they are retired! Don't wait too long if you like an item -- the new designs are great! www.wwsport.com/r/AprilTheGiraffeText alert users - you will likely not get another alert until we have the long awaited Labor Alert! If you need to see if you are enrolled, enter your number at the link below to verify. If not, use that email inquiry for assistance. Verify or help: www.aprilthegiraffealert.com/support.phpSign up: www.aprilthegiraffealert.com/Giraffe Cam will stay live through the labor and birth. We will not turn off unless instructed so by the vet team. If she is facing the "wrong way" - don't worry we have many other cameras capturing the process and will provide content soon after birth. -------------------------- Giraffe Factoid: Giraffe hooves grow much like your finger nails and must be maintained. Many parks, along with ours, uses natural substrates and materials to allow natural trimming, as they would encounter in a wild environment. However, some times, they still need extra attention. Giraffes can be target trained to stand at a location and present their hooves for keepers to provide one of the largest pedicures known to man! Keep in mind, this training takes time and patience, and we can't forget the power and strength behind a giraffe kick. Photo: April the Giraffe during her time at the Catskill Game Farm If her pattern wasn't a dead give away, it is that soft face and those relaxed (droopy ears)

Does April ever leave her pen? Every time I log in she is always there. Thought she's like to stretch her legs and walk outside. Do you ever see humans go in there and scoop up her poop? Does April ever look in the camera?

Does April ever look in the camera? She hasn't been. When they open her door she stands next to it and enjoys the sunshine but doesn't go out.
Yes they clean her pen twice a day.
And yes she looks at the camera quite a bit. A lot of times someone will stand behind it and feed her treats.

Does April ever leave her pen? Every time I log in she is always there. Thought she's like to stretch her legs and walk outside. They open her door daily when it is nice enough to go outside. She usually chooses to stay in her pen and just stretch her neck out sometimes. They alternate when they open Oliver's and April's doors, so that they aren't outside at the same time, since Oliver might be dangerous to the calf if she were to give birth with them both out there.

**sigh**
She's got a little "route". Hides in left corner, goes & throws hay, comes back around left side, stands under left side & licks on fence or grain bowl, saunters past right side, goes to wood wall and rubs neck (poops), goes to corner by door, necks with Oliver OR lays down, back to corner and starts again.

Does anyone else think she's moving incredibly fast the past hour or so? She looks so much more comfortable today and even made some normal poo. I still think the baby is moving into and out of position.

I thought we for sure would have a baby on Sunday or Monday when she adopted "the stance" and seemed to push, but none of that today.

Yes, I thought this is the most agitated I've seen her. I thought it might be because Oliver was outside so much of the day.

Did you just see how she was with Corey? Had no problem with him getting close, and she scarfed down that lettuce.
momstime is this normal for a giraffe to seem to go back & forth like this?
