Sometimes women get a burst of energy right before labor. I wonder if that's what is going on! I thought that too. She's been full of it pacing around the last couple hours. Earlier she was trying to get food out of one of the hanging buckets and managed to get it stuck on her face for a few seconds. So she lifted her neck up further and it toppled over the side. She stretched over looking for it like damn, where did it go? Lol Maybe walking gets those contractions going for giraffes too?

4/5 Evening Update Long one Corey noted some changes this evening. April's backend has some significant "bulging" occurring. Photo in comments. She was very "with it" but then became very distracted and as Corey put it, "would have walked right through me". Though sounding intimidating; this behavior is what we will see - consistently - when in active labor. She will walk through her strong contractions and push push push. All else is well and fresh air and the outdoors was enjoyed at length today! ..... Today's popular questions/concerns on April content we provide: Www.aprilthegiraffe.com has all of our official page links. If it's not there, it's likely not ours! Including the Giraffe Cam link! Many have asked about the return of April the Giraffe plush at the online store! We will have some answers for you tomorrow on that! They prior plush is SOLD OUT, so if we list an item as limited, we aren't kidding - order quick! New clothing and bag designs are moving quick! Store link: www.wwsport.com/r/AprilTheGiraffeIf you haven't yet - we HIGHLY suggest subscribing for the Labor Alert & Baby Update text system. The tech team has caught up with most all questions and inquiries and are coming up with creative ways to share photos of the Labor/birth and baby photos of those first crucial moments of bonding, walking, nursing. We will be able to provide realtime updates from the giraffe barn! Even our staff that can't be in the barn is signed up for the alerts! Subscribe at: www.aprilthegiraffealert.comWhat about me? If you do not signup for text alerts, it does not mean you won't see the clips or photos eventually. You will! The text alert system simply allows us to provide real time updates to those that wish to have them! Why not Facebook? Because during labor - our phones and devices will be recording these awesome moments! The alerts are just another avenue to provide more content through another platform - for those April fans that can't get enough! ....... Photo of April giving us that Giraffe Smile with those soft eyes, and ears perked. We can't wait for summer!

4/6 Morning Update "Shape of You" Allysa's morning report is of significant change in April's shape. Her body/belly is much less beach balled, as the bulges have streamlined. Perhaps suggesting a new position of calf...we hope for launch sequence! ...... We can't help but feel each day and night, as we snap and post our photos and provide updates on body change and development of April, that we shouldn't have the song lyrics of Ed Sheeran's Shape of You looped and playing; Every day discovering something brand new I'm in love with your body Oh—I—oh—I—oh—I—oh—I I'm in love with your body Of course the context is completely different, but no less obsessive in nature! ..... We will be running a content test to our text subscribers this morning, to share some of these latest developments in photo form, to ensure all is in order for when baby photos are ready to be shared! Already subscribed? Great Not certain you are or need help? www.aprilthegiraffealert.com/support.phpWant to subscribe? www.aprilthegiraffealert.com/Giraffe Factoid: Typically a giraffe can eat up to 75lbs of food per day! Giraffes spend almost their entire day (16-20 hours a day) eating! When not eating new food, they are chewing their cud (which we discussed in a recent prior factoid post).

Oh my gosh, the vet just came in, and she was adorable! Then someone fed her a carrot up by the camera. I just wanted to kiss her. ADORABLE. I took several screen shots because I couldn't stand the cuteness.

Did you just see how she was with Corey? Had no problem with him getting close, and she scarfed down that lettuce.
momstime is this normal for a giraffe to seem to go back & forth like this? Definitely! They bond with their keepers. In other news....We have a brand new baby giraffe delivered at our zoo yesterday. It was quite a surprise! I mean we knew she was pregnant, but they don't keep to our schedule, that's for sure. We had two mama's to be. I'm not sure when the other one will deliver. My zoo rarely advertises births beforehand, exception being elephants. I'm sure they will put out a press release in the next few days. Meanwhile, the world waits for April. lol SaveSave

I found a link to a study that had been done on the pregnancy & birth of a specific giraffe. It was very helpful in understanding just what is going on with April. LOTS of misconceptions out there. Dr. Tim is right when he says she's right on target. I'll try to remember to share the linl when I get home.
