Can't April please wait until tomorrow night, since I can sleep in Saturday because I can't be up all night watching her belly move like crazy and be productive tomorrow. Sorry boss, I'm so tired and useless because I was up waiting on a baby giraffe. Ummm yah, won't go over so well. LOL I was just thinking that. I have a rotten head cold, so watching has been keeping my mind off sniffing, blowing my nose, sneezing, and swallowing the horse tranquilizer sized Mucinex pills I've been taking. I cant wait to see this calf, and really hope it comes when we have time to sit and watch the miracle. Oh that stinks. It's been an awful cold and flu season. At least April has kept you "entertained". I love something I read about millions watching a giraffe's behind while she wanders around eating and pooping and sleeping. Yup that's pretty accurate and I have to say I've enjoyed it lol, but I can't wait to watch her baby!!

I haven't had time to look in on April for the past few days. I was hoping to pop on here and see that she'd had the baby. Now, I'll have to tune into the April show when I get home later this afternoon.

When my cows go into labor, their tail has a distinct arch at the base...it will be interesting to see if that is true for April, too. Hard to tell for sure, but to me she's looking a little fresher on the back end, too.

Looks like the feed is offline. I wonder what is going on? Here's the Park's Facebook post... Cam Down We are aware. Receiving 2,000 emails to tell us it's down, only slows us and the computers down. Please refrain.

3/24 Evening Update April had a busy day, but handled it like a champ and continues to progress. This afternoon's vet observations suggests milk has begun to fill the right udders. Wax caps remain and back end swell has continued to maintain a significant size. Appetite strong, moodiness returned this evening. We apologize for this early evening's cam malfunction, but as you know, we cannot control all factors. We react as fast as possible and ensure anything within our control is functioning as expected. Oliver and April have enjoyed their enrichment puzzle feeders (3rd attempt was the charm)! We have received concern that its too straining or a tease to have the puzzle feeders hung as they are -- let us reassure you -- the enrichment items are doing just as we had hoped! They stimulate the giraffes' minds and bodies, encouraging them to work for their rewards! If it was easy - it would just be "feeding them". Tomorrow, we hope to have some neat footage available to you, uploaded onto our youtube channel. If you haven't yet, please visit and subscribe to our channel for all the latest Animal Adventure video updates and more! Watch for new video tomorrow! www.youtube.com/channel/UClnQCgFa9lCBL-KXZMOoO9Q

I changed the title, hoping that one day soon I can change it to she's had her baby, instead of still pregnant!

I'm no giraffe butt expert, but I've got 3 kids & an ag degree and I'll be shocked if we don't see significant progress by morning. that is one uncomfortable animal.

3/25 Morning Update This morning's keeper report is baby has settled down compared to yesterday's continued judo chop marathon. Appetite is consistent, and observed changes from last evening are same as reported prior. This morning we share with you the Q&A session we did live with Toys R Us yesterday from the giraffe barn. Some repeated content and answers, some new material, and more importantly a look into our team. We are so happy to be working with Toys"R"Us and further our message and mission to bring April's Journey to you and support Giraffe Conservation! Giraffe Factoid: Is in today's shared video! Enjoy! youtu.be/UMND5FFnDdY

She keeps seeming to be sort of bracing herself....planting her back legs firmly apart, tail up...mind you she's still eating pretty much non stop!

It's been 30 minutes since gar posted and that tail is still up. Her stomach ripples now and then. Maybe, maybe, maybe. Nah...

It's been 30 minutes since gar posted and that tail is still up. Her stomach ripples now and then. And, there's movement just below her tail but no poop for once. Maybe, maybe, maybe. Nah... Have you seen her bracing? She plants her back legs a bit apart and sort of pushes backwards... I've been watching on and off for a few weeks and haven't seen her do that before. ETA, a keeper has just been in trying to look at her udder and rear end it seemed. I'm going to bed shortly...it'd better not happen overnight!!

Yes. She's still doing that same bracing stance from time to time. Her whole backside flexes (for lack of a better word) when she stands there for a while. For once, she's not pooping. She's always pooping when I check on her.

I've got a hockey game to go to so either hurry this up April or wait until tomorrow! Lol. She sure is doing a lot of that tail raising without pooping so...maybe.

Something's irritating the poor thing right now. She's all fidgety, and pacing around. She keeps yanking her head back and whipping her neck around toward her back end. Several times she's been up against the far wall, rubbing her head. I hope this baby comes soon. April's in that "get this kid out of me " mood.

She and Oliver are walking laps around their enclosures. Neither seems very peaceful right now.

3/25 Evening Update
April continues to progress but in true April fashion, her upper right teat did not produce milk (It did yesterday) upon veterinary review. She keeps us guessing - she keeps in growing !!
All else is well and snow appears to have cleared. Tomorrow- keepers will review he yard to deem safe or not - and outdoor activity will begin again.
This photo was snapped by Dr Tim during his visit. Inquisitive April & bold Oliver.

I listened to the Dr Tim interview on my way home from work tonight, and I believe he said a giraffe's gestation is 15 months, plus or minus 60(?) days. Could we be waiting for another 30 days? Maybe she has twins in there???
Only April knows for sure. She looks very uncomfortable each time she lowers herself gently to the ground. What a sweet mom-to-be.

3/26 Morning Update This morning's keeper report notes just how large April appears! Also, baby is extremely "quiet" this morning... calm before the storm? There are notable bulges on April's left side today. All other physical development remains as reported prior. With the new week starting ahead; April's Apparel store will be back on line (likely Monday). Once the site is live, you will be able to access from www.Aprilthegiraffe.com. The relaunch also brings a new distributor. We thank Zappia Athletic Products, Inc. for a stellar job handling the thousands of orders they received and continue to process! To lighten Zappia's load, we will have Worldwide Sport Supply - Wrestling (another local firm) stepping in, to produce, process and ship all orders placed. A big thank you to the many of you sending mail, packages, and gifts to our team and giraffes - and other animals! Local firm ScottTech Integrated Solutions sent a pallet of romaine - for which our many animals thank you for! We appreciate your kind words, stories, and generosity. Have an amazing day! Giraffe Factoid: Male giraffes determine if a female is fertile by tasting their urine. They then engage in the Flehmen Response. What is that? THAT is your homework! Look it up! You have seen many animals do it before - and now you will know why. Today's Photo of our boy Oliver!

I've just come home and have been watching for the past 5 minutes. Her tail has been up the whole time, and no poop. Could that be a sign?
