My project for tonight....lol I love the colors! And I love Lainey's description of "yarn barf!" I hate when that happens! BTW - I clicked on that little thing in the top left hand corner of the above next to the Pinterest 'save' button and the results were hilarious!

I think I'm about two weeks behind with the Hygge but that's fine. I'm loving how it is looking. I've tweaked the back panel very slightly and added beads here and there. The blues are the start of the Nuts About Squares CAL. The blocks are the first week complete and the flowers are the start of week 2's blocks. My colour choice but I've not placed them in my choice of order if that makes sense. I read what the designer suggested about colours and then allocated A-F to my yarn and I'm following the colour chart like that. I'd do everything too similar if I chose the order too. I don't know what's wrong with my pics but the lighting is dreadful!

Oooh gillyp your Hygge is lovely! I like your NAS colours - remind me a bit of blue & white china. Even though you have other colours in there, that's the overall feel I get from it. I have to ask though, did you vacuum especially, or is your carpet always that pristine?!

Need more info please! LOL! I googled it but all google will give me is it's a way of life. I love your project! And I love the 2nd one too! As soon as I finish my current projects, I'm going to look into doing squares.

I've been wanting to tackle it for a while, but last year when I tried, I got hopelessly frustrated. I have a bit more experience now, and learned how to do the 'togethers.' My next thing to learn is how to do granny squares.

She has one on how to make a granny square (can't vouch for this one specifically, but in general they are clear and well-paced, and she has a lovely voice!)

My sister saw a photo of something on FB and asked me if I could make it for her. I was surprised because she is not known to like SciFi and I didn't know she liked "Guardians of the Galaxy". When I told her I was surprised she wanted a Baby Groot, she had no idea what I was talking about - she said she just thought it was cute and wanted one for her work desk. So, I made her a Baby Groot yesterday afternoon - took about 2 hours. I was pleased with it. I may even make one for my desk. PATTERN LINKSaveSave

I love that pattern and the colors but am not a fan of that yarn. It is soft but too chunky and difficult to work with, IMO. They have some new colorways of Bernat Blanket yarn that is so pretty, I just wish it was a different material. Save

LOL! Uh, no. Not a thing.
My knitting sits there taunting me whilst I do homework. Finals are the first week in May. That weekend, my local yarn shop has a trip scheduled to a wool fest. That's my reward for sticking this out.

What you can't see are the worn bits - it's about 15 years old - or the frayed edges where the cat(s) have dug it up after being shut in the room. But thank you very much, you are my new best friend!

As soon as I finish my current projects, I'm going to look into doing squares. The Hygge CAL is a shawl/stole/wrap run by Scheepjes yarn. The pattern gets released in sections over a number of weeks. There are, I think, 5 set colourways or you do your own thing. I'm doing my own based on autumn colours and I'm unlikely to use it as a shawl. I was planning on using it as a bed runner but I might hang it on the wall. You can see some of the pattern here and the FB group is here There are some seriously talented stitchers in the group and there have been many beautiful variations posted. In my head I'd like to do 3 more, one for each of the seasons but I think my imagination is bigger than my capability. I've not done ripple yet. I really like the look of yours and your colour choice. I saw some cute bootees just yesterday, like mini UGGs but there was no pattern.

You all have enabled me...ordered the hydrangea kit as well as 6 or 7 extra skeins of the colors used in the blanket. I'm toying with the idea of making two throw sized blankets instead of one larger blanket. We'll see how that works out.

I'm interested in making a Virus Shawl (crochet). I know most crafters did that several months back. The pattern (on Ravelry) notes that you will need around 500 meters of yarn but also suggests having 600 to 800 meters just in case.
My question is, if you use a thicker yarn do you need as many meters to make a medium size adult shawl? It seems that a majority of people used DK or even thinner yarn for this. I'm thinking of using I Love This Yarn which uses a size 5.5 mm hook (aran thickness) for the first one I make. Just wondering if anyone made one with a heavier yarn and if they needed 500+ meters?
Thanks.

Just wondering if anyone made one with a heavier yarn and if they needed 500+ meters? I haven't made it in heavier yarn, personally I don't think the pattern looks good in thicker yarn, I think the pattern is shown off to it's best when it's a thinner/lacier yarn, as the various gaps in the pattern are meant to be bigger and more visible. When it's chunky yarn and the stitches are close together it loises some of the pattern definition. I also think it looks best when you use a hook one or two sizes bigger than you would normally use for that weight of yarn.
I did mine in Wolltraum 4ply (very thin) and a 4mm hook and I used almost 1000 m.
It partially depends how tall you are as well, and how you like shawls to sit. I would think 500m would be a minimum in any yarn and then personal preference would add anywhere up to another 500m.

I love all the crochet that everyone is doing. I haven't done any in probably 40 years which leads to my question.
Can anyone point me towards a good tutorial on how to join granny squares? When I cleared out mom's house, I found the granny square lap blanket I made for her when I was in high school. It's in great shape but some joining seams have come unraveled. I'd like to put it back together. I also have a granny square bedspread (double bed) that my Granny made (multi-colored with all squares bordered in black). It needs some squares sewn back together as well. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!

I guess I should answer my own post!!
Did you finish everything you had hoped/planned for March? Meh, not really. Our crochet group did a display at the library for the month of March, so I did scramble to finish a shawl for that, but I honestly can't think if anything else I finished. I did, however, start & stop several things.
What's the most recent thing you started? Premier Yarns Eggs-Foliator Washrag I made a couple of these yesterday/last night for Easter gifts, with at least one (maybe three) left to go. I also have 3 baby blanket projects going and have started/stopped/scrapped a shawl or 2.
If skill level/$$ wasn't an issue, what would you most love to make? Right now I'm really loving the shawls made with the thin gradient yarns. I also really love the intricate pieced blankets using the stained-glass look.
Show us a picture of one of your projects in action (i.e. someone wearing it, covering a bed, playing with it etc). My dollies on display at the fair last summer
Fun quick little outfit I made on a whim for church
Will you have time this weekend to craft/sew/yarn/etc?
Yes hopefully! We'll be spending some time with family and traveling so that's free crochet time for me!!

The Walltram looks very intimidating to work with because of the 4 ply nature (how they are loosely wound together instead of tight)--I feel like I'll insert the hook in between the strands and mess it up. Do you recommend something lightweight that may be easier for me to work with?
I watched a youtube by BellaCoco and she used Stylecraft Caberet. It looked really pretty. Unfortunately, it looks like everyone bought up a bunch of that variety and it's hard to find more than one or two skeins available on line at the same place. I don't care for the Stylecraft DK but this Caberet version looks like the stands are more tightly wound together if that makes any sense. I love looking at your craft projects. I just started crochet early last year and find that I am such a perfectionist that it holds me back from trying more challenging projects.
