SaveIf I'm using DK, I generally start with a 3 mm hook -- depends on what I'm going to make. I've gotten some DK yarn from TOFT that I thought might be a little chunky for a 3 mm hook, but it worked just fine. I usually use DK when I make amigurumi, although sometimes I'll use worsted weight for that.

betty dh and I were at the beach this morning and brought home about a dozen rocks. I showed him your painted rocks and I'm going to try to get my daughter, who is far more talented at painting than I am, to paint with me. Do you use acrylic paints? do you use a sealer on them? I did a quick check on Facebook but can't find any groups near us. I'm going to search again. I'd love to bring the painted rocks back to the same beach we took them from.

Those colors look so pretty together. What variety is this? I bought a bunch of the PaintBox Cotton DK variety many months ago and love the colors but I'm not sure what to make with it. It is quite lightweight. I love the Sophie's Universe blankets I've seen and was thinking of maybe trying that with my PaintBox yarn. However, that is a big undertaking without having any experience working with such lightweight yarn so I'm pretty scared. Mostly, I really like the colors available in this line and the DK cotton while thin has a nice feel to it.
If anyone here has made or is working on the Sophie blanket I'd love to hear about your experiences.

I generally don't like working with thicker yearn, but decided that I liked some of the Caron Cake colours enough to buy into the hype and try them out! This is almost 4 cakes, 2 each of Cookies & Cream and Pistachio. I changed colours alternating the two cakes and I did manipulate the individual cake colours in some places as well...I tried not to but I couldn't help myself, it got easier to go with the flow as it got larger. 5.5mm hook and it currently measures 120cm/47inches from point to point.

If anyone here has made or is working on the Sophie blanket I'd love to hear about your experiences. It's the Paint Box cotton DK. I'm not sure what you mean about it being lightweight, it's double knit so it's the same 'weight' as other yarns that are also double knit. Stylecraft DK for example. I also don't think it's thin. That's pretty. Such soft, relaxing colours too. By manipulating you mean making sure the colour changes don't happen mid row? I would definitely have to do that. I don't mind them happening from side to side but I can't cope with them happening in the round!

By manipulating you mean making sure the colour changes don't happen mid row Yes, I cut the yarn at various points and re-joined. I didn't want it to make it too perfect each round, but I don't like it when the colour changes make it look too unbalanced (all one colour on one side, etc). Luckily in these particular cakes some of the colour changes are more subtle like from the beige to the light grey in the centre so those were OK and then when it gets bigger the outer rows are fine when the colour changes. I don't think these 'cake' yarns with sudden colour changes work for all patterns, but I did like working with it on this pattern and I think the colour changes made me think a bit more out of the box, so it was a good creative challenge to use them.

You know, if you stare at this photo long enough, the blanket pulses! LOL...ok, my eyes are wonky. But this is truly beautiful! I'm tempted to get me one of those Caron Cakes. Are they only sold at Michaels?

I've finished another baby blanket. I used Bernat Baby yarn and I'm not a fan of it. My sides are very uneven because it was hard for me to figure out where to start and end a row. But I'm not about to take it all apart and redo, especially since my grandson will be born next week! I'm going to put a satin binder around it to hopefully hide the unevenness of it. But here it is:

This is really pretty, although I think I would have a hard time with being fussy about the color changes. I do see some rounds where the color shades and I like that.

It's lumpy and bumpy but that could be all the ends waiting to be sewn in. They look great! Beautiful colours too. I'm in the habit now of doing each end as I go, each row that starts with a new colour I weave in the endat the start of the row and again when I finish. Not only is it easier to do at the time, I also feel like the ends are more secure and less lumpy and obvious than when I do them all at the finish.

I admit to being a bit paranoid about the ends coming out. Occasionally I weave as I go but I do quite like sewing them in.

I finished the booties! I found a real super easy video to follow. The first one took me a while (over 2 days!) because I kept frogging stitches, plus writing down the pattern for the next one. The next one took me a little over an hour. Here is the final result of my labor of love for my first grandchild. He's being delivered by c-section next Wednesday, so I made it just in time!

Made my staff some new clothes. Bloomers, petticoats, dresses, pinnies and caps for the Cook and Nanny. The pram is a cheap metal mini that I altered, painted and covered with thin leather on the outside and lined inside with satin. Mattress, sheets and cover made with decorated Muslin and lace. Dressed baby doll inside pram I have had since I was a child. Now what shall I do? Attachments:

I am really, really interested in this one but am worried the background yarn is just a touch too dark. It sure is pretty and I wouldn't hesitate at all to get it if the background was just a little bit lighter. What do you think? Does a printed pattern come with these kits?

It sure is pretty and I wouldn't hesitate at all to get it if the background was just a little bit lighter. What do you think? Does a printed pattern come with these kits? It IS dark, to my mind, like a grey/blue denim. You can see more of it here to maybe give you a better idea. The one I am doing is dark and the rainbow kit is on black so it's really what you would want to do with it. Join the FB group and you will see loads of really stunning ideas which spark the imagination. There are lots being done on paler colours like oatmeal and soft pink. One of my favourites is an oatmeal one embroidered in browns and another has a red background with just grey embroidery; very elegant. If you fancy it it's easy enough to pick your own colourway. The pattern is released in sections, one part each week and we are over half way done now with the releases. You don't have to keep to a time scale, it's whatever suits you.

It sure is pretty and I wouldn't hesitate at all to get it if the background was just a little bit lighter. What do you think? Does a printed pattern come with these kits? The background is just right for the cross stitch that goes on top of it - any lighter and the cross stitch will not be noticeable, that was the issue I had with the colours I chose and it's what made me pull the whole thing apart. People are posting pictures using this kit in in the CAL and that background is the right colour. There's no printed pattern it's still a current CAL, and it's close to the end, so all of the weeks patterns are available as PDF files...which of course you can print out if you want to. Be aware though this yarn is even thinner than standard DK, you seem to prefer quite chunky yarn and this isn't very thick at all.
