I don't usually care about food that much, I'm picky. But at the fair...wow. I usually stick with a favorite and try one new thing. This year the fair hasn't started yet, but I went to a solstice celebration and tried "fried macaroni and cheese balls". I was skeptical, but it was HEAVEN. They mix macaroni and cheese with smoked salmon, then freeze just until hard, then batter them and flash fry. They come served with a chipotle dip. I hope I find them at the fair Yum. What's the tastiest thing you have had at the fair?

Oh my, that sounds delicious!
My favorite was a potato that they spiraled SUPER thinly into a big bunch and deep fried it. It was like a huge oversized ball of homemade potato chips. Heaven!

This year, there were a couple booths with fresh cut curly fries. OMG, so good. I'd forgotten what fresh fries taste like.
ETA: Sounds like Brandy had the same at her fair!

Fried dill pickle slices. I wasn't quite sure about the first few I tasted but after that I was hooked.

They call them ribbon fries here and the fair started this week in my area. That's what I've been wanting to get.

The fried waffles with powdered sugar remain my favorite. I love to buy bags of broken ones...you get twice as many for the same price as whole ones, which break anyway. Yum!!!
Oohhh...and fair fries. With salt and vinegar.
...and Hawaiian shaved ice. Sweet tart flavor.
Oh, and can't forget the fireball flavored taffy...LOL

I was SO disappointed the year after and they weren't here. It was my favorite fair food! Now I'm stuck with just regular ol' fair fries. LOL

I love the Mac n cheese balls. But really, I'm a simple gal - all I truly want at the fair is a corn dog slathered in mustard! It's the only time I ever eat them.

Does a beverage count? We have Buffalo Bill's Soda, made with real sugar. Root beer, orange, sasparilla, grape and some of them are also sugar free. You buy a metal cup then every time you go you pay $5 and get as many free refills as you want. We have 3 of the cups and look forward to the soda booth every year. We missed the fair this year . Stupid family commitments!

Call me boring, but my absolute favorite fair food is the roasted corn on the cob. It it really going to bum DD out in October that she can't have it (braces). Might have to bring a knife to de-cob the corn.
My secret food pleasure at the fair is a Dole Whip. I pretend like I don't smell grease and stale beer and that I'm really in Adventureland right next to the Swiss Family Treehouse.

I love the deep fried snickers too, love how gooey it gets, but you still have the crunch of the nuts, YUMMM!!! I also really enjoyed my deep fried fluffier utter sandwich, but I could only eat 1/4 of it! This year my husband had a peanut butter cup that had been wrapped in bacon and then battered and deep fried. He said it was delicious!

Pickle Dawgs! Pickle spear wrapped in piece of pastrami with a thin layer of cream cheese. Now I'm lazy and just make it into a dip and eat with chips or crackers!

I have to be at a state fair for about 10 days every year for work, so I've tried everything that looks reasonably good. My favorite is the 'Amish donuts' (which are really just homemade glazed donuts served piping hot, by people who appear to be Amish in appearance/dress, but I'm not sure if they really are... My second favorite is the steak tips over mashed potatoes. I know it doesn't sound like something you would want at the fair, but they are there every year with a very nice set-up and the food is super good. This is at the Florida State Fair in February.

The chili from the Congregational Church at our fair is the one thing I always look forward to. And some fried dough. Then I'm good for another year.

Wisconsin State Fair's amazing cream puffs. I haven't been to the fair in years...wish I could just pay someone to bring me one.
I also like the gyros and corn dogs at our county fair, but not all on the same day!

We are going to our fair next week. I can't wait! I love the fair, and fair food of all kinds. Last year it was extremely hot the day we went, and it kind of killed my appetite, which was sad, but it sounds like this year will be much better.

Waffle balls - it's a chocolate covered strawberry dipped in waffle batter and fried then sprinkled with powdered sugar.
It's heaven.
Heaven.

Pickle Dawgs! Pickle spear wrapped in piece of pastrami with a thin layer of cream cheese. Now I'm lazy and just make it into a dip and eat with chips or crackers! This sounds amazing. I've not seen this at any fair in Southern California. At the Orange County fair, I always get the bacon wrapped jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese. The poppers at the LA County fair are disgusting. They are stuffed with cheez whiz. At my local city festival, I get a tornado potato, with Cajun powder.

Not a fair, but a festival. The senior class of the local high school sells hot apple dumplings, along with a scoop of really good vanilla ice cream, and then the drizzle fresh, pure maple syrup over it. OMG. I could go to the festival just for one of those dumplings.

I also love the deep fried snickers bar. Yum! I once went to a Rodeo and had fry bread. That stuff was delicious.

Deep fried cheese on a stick. (It's in corn dog batter, and the center is super soft and melty.)
One year, I think my sister ate like 6 of them.
