Is any place still taking pre-orders? One person told me to go to Marco's, but now they are no longer taking pre-orders. I should have ordered sooner. Is there any other online store taking pre-orders? I posted a link to My little scrapbook store that is taking preorders. Michelle has amazing customer service.

Is there any other online store taking pre-orders? Scrapnnana - I just went to Marcos and they let me add one to my cart. Maybe just a glitch on the website? (I took it back out of my cart without trying to check out; I've had one on preorder with them for what feels like ages now!)

cbet, after seeing that you had been able to add it to your cart, I went to the Marco Paper site and found it. Thanks! Apparently the earlier link no longer worked, so I assumed they had stopped taking pre-orders. It was still there and available for pre-order.
Edited to add: I was able to order it, no problem. It looks like Marco's has the best pre-order price, too.

Even though in my head, I know it's not

I received my Tim Holtz Tonic Stamp Press purchased from ebay, however I am not getting full impression when stamping. 1st time every using a press, it does not seem like the lid part goes down far enough to reach the paper set on the tray? Am I doing something wrong, or is this item defective. I thought the purpose of the stamp press was to make it EASY. This is probably my comeupance for purchasing this controversial item.
Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your help. Probably a goofy question, but are you using a clear stamp and do you have the lid flipped to the clear side? I don't have mine yet, so I'm making a guess based on the videos I've seen. I am pretty sure that when I get mine, I have some rubber stamps that I'm going to have to figure out some sort of shim, because some have thinner cushion, or no cushion at all.

Good question, I assumed it was set up for the clear stamp, I will have to look.

I am in the U.S. and have only had time to use my Tim Holtz stamp press one time. (It was purchased on EBay from a UK seller and was well packaged for shipping.) I was using Mama Elephant clear stamps and was also having the same problem. My platform did have the lid facing the correct direction. I haven't had time to check it out again. My thoughts are that it may need to have a piece of cardstock or some sort of shim laying on the bottom magnetized section.

I'm not a huge fan of clear stamps, so I don't have that many of them. But even with the few sets I have, I have noticed a difference in thickness in some of them. So I'm thinking a shim or maybe even a thin piece of fun foam on the bottom would help (even though you're not supposed to need the fun foam with the Tim platform).

I've noticed that PTI stamps are the thickest. Thanks to now knowing how the process works (in my thread about making your own photopolymer stamps the lady in the videos I linked had varying thicknesses to her stamps as she went along and tweeked her process), it makes sense that the thickness would vary a bit from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Cbet and Scrapaddict702, thanks for responding. I haven't had time to try any other brands, but I bet you both are correct about the varying thicknesses of different clear stamps. Using Fun Foam sounds like a good idea.
Some day I'll get back to it. This afternoon mowing the yard is the agenda.

Using Fun Foam sounds like a good idea. Some day I'll get back to it. This afternoon mowing the yard is the agenda. If you struggle to find a good thickness that works (I initially found PTI stamps would muddy from being squished too much in certain areas and would hardly leave an impression in others using my MISTI but learned as I went to work further from the hinge to minimize the compression) you can always try using a thicker shim on the rubber side...I haven't used the press, yet and obviously won't until my pre-order comes in, but it seems like you should be able to add shims to either side and if there isn't enough wiggle room for that on the clear stamp side, flipping the lid might help.

If you want some really thin fun foam, check out Dollar Tree. I have some from there that is too thin to be of much use for kid crafting, but it sure die cuts sweet and makes a nice not to cushy cushion for stamping.

I haven't had this problem with clear stamps, just the bare rubber. For that I used a silicone mat.

I'm just getting caught up on the stamp positioner tool drama. I'm sorry now that I didn't go ahead and buy the Hampton Arts version when I first saw it at Michael's (and had a coupon!) - I've been holding out on buying a MISTI because it's unreasonably pricey. I get it's a "tool investment" but considering what it's made of, even the mini version is outrageously priced for what is basically hinged plexiglass, made in China. To add insult to injury... it's unnerving to read that the owner is misrepresenting Christianity through her various business practices (appalling customer service, totalitarian patent trolling...) I understand protecting intellectual property, but it's called healthy competition in a capitalist country, especially if companies are coming out with models that provide truly unique features that really set it apart from MISTI's original design (ahem... Tonic's TH platform). It's also hypocritical to basically take a concept (portable printing press, consumer letterpress platform) and repurpose it, then not allow others to do the same (and better, IMO). See: 2peasrefugees.boards.net/post/1578799 , 2peasrefugees.boards.net/post/826670What is most upsetting is that as a consumer, I feel as if I'm held "over a barrel" without my choice of product; consider, if I want the flexibility of stamp positioning based on my paper size, I'd have to buy at least the largest MISTI, at over $100; whereas, all I'd have to purchase is one tool (Tonic's TH platform) at a more consumer-friendly price point. At the minimum, I'd have to spend $45 for the mini; I'd rather spread that out over tool and materials purchases. This at least - for those of us who don't quite have the skills to DIY their own stamp positioning tool. So - as a matter of principle, I'm glad I haven't bought the MISTI and hope that Tonic has success with the TH platform. I've reserved one on SSS but will have to see how it pans out (estimated mid/late July shipment). IF (big IF) it doesn't, then I will consider asking hubby to DIY one for me. My DIY option: 2peasrefugees.boards.net/post/878326/threadTruly - if the MSP owner had gone about this a better way (improving customer service, limiting the patent trolling to legitimate infringements, offering discounts/deals), it may have maintained her sales flow instead of creating a consumer backlash.

Thank you for your help. Think about where you are placing the magnets. The first couple of times I stamped with some thin stamps, I had the magnets really close to the stamped image. But this meant that the top plate wasn't able to flex enough to get a good image. Moving the magnets solved it.

I saw on facebook one of the photos was posted from the Carson, CA stamp show on Saturday. Maybe some lucky stampers bought one directly from the Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous booth! ETA: oh...did not refresh before posting.

That was the only reason I wanted to go to the stamp convention. I was hoping to score one there. I ended up not going due to the small amount of vendors. I'll just have yo wait a while. In the meantime I can use my stampoholic.

Simon Says Stamp has photos of the platform. They may be the new version. There is a grey square in the upper left corner where the two rulers meet. Older photos have a black square.
I think they are finally on the way to us.....
