From the Hill... "Chaffetz calls for $2,500-a-month housing stipend for lawmakers: hill.cm/YoFOV6L" The tax payers are already paying them a salary. Why should they get any additional payments? Let them be like millions of Americans who have to make do with what salary they get. Keep in mind this not a raise but "an addition to". Nope, just nope. Build military style barracks and give them 3 hots & a cot. And the same insurance plan they propose to give to the rest of us. You know there are some pre-existing conditions lurking amongst them.

Ya know what, I wouldn't deny them some help with housing costs. Most of them are maintaining two separate households, which asks a lot of anyone. I don't know how much they get paid, but I know that not every Congress member is wealthy. $2500 seems like a lot to me, but I don't know how much housing costs are in DC. Lots of them share apartments, I know that. The one thing is (to me) ... if Jason Chaffetz suggested it, I don't like it. You're nicer than me. I vote for Congressional dorms ... and they're only available to those under a certain income level. Like poverty level. Otherwise, they're just takers who could pay for their own housing but choose not to.

Just no to housing allowance. They get a salary and perks. Their choice on how to spend. The base salary is $174,000 per year, plus full medical benefits, matching pension contribution, something like $800,000 to maintain staff, travel and district offices, and an annual $3000 tax deduction for living outside their home district. They also receive full retirement benefits after only 5 years at age 62. And work probably 40 weeks a year on average. Most of them have their meals perked daily due to the subsidized Dining Rooms in Congress, and the lobbyists and evening functions who wine and dine them.
They choose the job, knowing the risks and rewards, and should not be allowed special compensation because their part time office is in another location. I doubt that any of the members of congress are living in a $75000 bungalow in their home district.
Although the ideas of barracks, or dormitories as a requirement for employment is appealing.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard (re: teaching salaries), "You knew what the pay was like when you chose the profession." I guarantee you, if I was getting $174K, or even $74K, for my 40 weeks each year, you wouldn't see me asking around for more.

I guess the meeting with the GOP Senators is over...
"With ZERO Democrats to help, and a failed, expensive and dangerous ObamaCare as the Dems legacy, the Republican Senators are working hard!"
Working hard to do what exactly?
And...
"I just finished a great meeting with the Republican Senators concerning HealthCare. They really want to get it right, unlike "Ocare"
Now that is funny.

And this is why they are trying to ram it through:
"Monday 26 June 2017 07.49 EDT Last modified on Tuesday 27 June 2017 17.10 EDT
At a weekend donor retreat attended by at least 18 elected officials, the Koch brothers warned that time is running out to push their agenda, most notably healthcare and tax reform, through Congress.
Trump wants 'heart' as Republicans seek to deliver Senate healthcare bill Read more One Texas-based donor warned Republican lawmakers that his “Dallas piggy bank” was now closed, until he saw legislative progress.
“Get Obamacare repealed and replaced, get tax reform passed,” said Doug Deason. “Get it done and we’ll open it back up.”
Nonetheless, Koch officials said that the network’s midterm budget for policy and politics is between $300m and $400m.
The Senate will this week seek to pass its version of healthcare reform – at present it does not have enough Republican support to overcome blanket Democratic opposition.
“There is urgency,” said Tim Phillips, who leads Koch network’s political arm, Americans for Prosperity, at the industrialist brothers’ retreat in Colorado Springs. “We believe we have a window of about 12 months to get as much of it accomplished as possible before the 2018 elections grind policy to a halt.”
What are you doing to protest the Republican health bill? Read more The window for action may be even smaller, some Koch allies warned at the weekend retreat that drew roughly 400 participants to the heart of the Rocky Mountains. The price for admission for most was a pledge to give at least $100,000 this year to the Kochs’ broad policy and political network.
There were also at least 18 elected officials on hand. Some hosted private policy discussions with donors while others simply mingled.
In between meetings, Dave Brat, a Virginia Republican representative, predicted dire consequences in next year’s midterm elections should his party fail to deliver on its repeated promises.
“If we don’t get healthcare, none of us are coming back,” he said in a brief interview. “We said for seven years you’re gonna repeal Obamacare. It’s nowhere near repealed.”
It’s the same for tax reform, Brat said: “We don’t get taxes through, we’re all going home. Pack the bags.”
There was a sense of deep frustration from conservative officials and donors alike, decrying the pace of progress in Washington with Republicans controlling both chambers of Congress and the White House for the first time in a decade.
Deason has already informed a handful of congressional Republicans that the “Dallas piggy bank” is closed until he sees more action. He said he was recently approached by congressmen Mark Meadows of North Carolina and Jim Jordan of Ohio about hosting a fundraiser.
“I said, ‘No I’m not going to because we’re closing the checkbook until you get some things done,’” Deason said, noting he’s encouraged nearly two dozen major Texas donors to follow his lead.
While some donors threatened to withhold campaign cash, Koch’s team outlined a broader strategy to help shape the debate. Already, Americans For Prosperity claims a paid staff of more than 400 full-time activists in 36 states.
The group is actively lobbying Senate Republicans to change their current healthcare proposal, which it views as insufficiently conservative.
“We are not committed to the Senate bill in its current form, but there is still time to make changes and we’re actively working to improve it,” Phillips said.
At the same time, Koch’s allies are aggressively pushing forward on the taxes. The network is running what it describes as “a first wave” of digital ads calling on more than 50 House and Senate Republicans in both parties to overhaul the nation’s tax code.
Later in the summer, Philips said, Americans for Prosperity will begin hosting rallies and other events to generate momentum for a tax overhaul in all 36 states where they have full-time operations.
Analysis ‘They’re sentencing me to death’: Medicaid recipients on the Republican healthcare plan Read more Sean Lansing, AFP’s chief operating officer, warned that the Republican party’s House majority could be in jeopardy if the Republican-led Congress doesn’t follow through.
“If they don’t make good on these promises … there are going to be consequences, and quite frankly there should be,” Lansing said.
Republicans would have to lose 24 seats to lose the House majority. In a handful of recent special elections, the GOP has prevailed, despite Donald Trump’s low approval ratings.
Another Koch donor, Chris Wright, of Colorado, says Republicans likely have a 10-month window before any chance of major policy action is suffocated by next year’s midterms.
“If we don’t get anything done by then, the elections probably don’t go very well,” Wright said. “They may not go well anyway.”

It should be THE SAME. Same housing allowance, same health care, SAME RETIREMENT, then maybe our military would get treated properly. Hmmpf And I mean exactly the same. identical.

From former President Obama adviser Dan Pfeiffer...
"The average person knows more about Trumpcare than Trump who has little interest and less curiosity about the policy that could define him"
Ah he will find a way to blame President Obama cause we all know he does not take responsibility for this words or actions. It's always someone else's fault.
You know what's sad, I mean really sad, is the background picture for Pfeiffer's twitter account is a picture of President Obama and other advisers discussing something looking serious. Same thing with the pictures former Obama photographer Pete Souza is posting on Instragram. And you just know that same level of seriousness is not happening with the current occupant of the Oval Office when it comes to making decisions that affect the American people.

I agree that they should be treated just like military members.
Remember that most wouldn't hold Town Halls because it was dangerous? No problem with sending our military into dangerous situations, and stirring up conflicts that may lead us into a new war.
The barracks idea might teach them how to work and play with others, also called bi-partisanship.
Their salary is $174,000 annually compared to the average medium income of $57,000. he typical member of the U.S. Congress is worth $1.03 million.*
The net worth of a typical member of Congress has grown 20% since 2007. During those same years, the net worth of the typical American household dropped 35%.*
268 of the 534 members of Congress are millionaires.*
In 2007 the typical senator or representative had a net worth of $803,000. By 2010 that number had grown to $1 million. At the same time, the net worth of U.S. families dropped from $126,000 to $77,000.*
*Sources NYT, Money Nation, and ballotpedia
remember when politicians wanted to serve their country and their fellow man?
But the Republicans have to pass the tax cut masquerading as "health care" so they can move on to the tax cut masquerading as "tax reform" to accommodate their own and their donors greed.

He would rather get his information in sound bites and point form. He has no time or patience to sit and listen to yammering from those around him.

"Democrats purposely misstated Medicaid under new Senate bill - actually goes up."
Part of the tweet is a graph showing the cost of Medicaid going up through 2026. How can that be when they are touting Medicaid cuts of between $750-800M. Can't have have it both ways.
It's also worth noting there is no indication on the graph who put it together.

Ok, I'm going to throw this in here. Has nothing to do with any topic in this thread.
I have never hated anyone. Everyone has redeemable qualities
However this man has none and I have nothing but hatred for him as leader of our country. He makes me lose sleep, he makes me fear for the future for my adult sons and grandkids.
I can't stand to even look at him or hear him speak. He's a embarrassment to this country.
That is all. Rant over.

And honestly I don't think he ever will. The graph does actually say Source: CBO in the lower right hand corner, but I guess that could have been added. I didn't find a graph like that (with limited Googling) on the CBO site. Save
