Just as I figured from reading the posts here while we were driving home from the airport tonight, the flight we booked for her has been cancelled. Highly unlikely that we will be able to get her here or anywhere else. You must be very worried. I don't know if these will help your MIL, but maybe they'll be able to help someone. The Vulnerable Population Registry - If she has to stay, you might want to add her to this registry. Shelter Information

One last thing, melissa -- The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is coordinating with hospitals and healthcare facilities across Florida on evacuation needs. Maybe they'll know of efforts underway to evacuate people who can't get out on their own.

We did it! Got her on a flight on Friday to NYC!
Can't tell you how many flights we searched. Tried to send her everywhere from Dallas to Montreal to Vegas and everywhere in between. Then, magically, a seat opened up on a Delta flight and we grabbed it. So many times it seemed that there was a seat, but then we you go to pay, it would be gone. Just crazy. Either way, we hope this is it and she can spend the week here with us. <3

Oh my, now GA, SC, and NC are all under states of emergency also. This thing is a monster. Just heard that we (SC Upstate) could have over 60 mph winds and up to 12 in. of rain. I know that's nothing compared to 185 mph and feet of rain, but that's severe for us. Everyone stay safe! Oh man, I had not hear that yet. Oh my word. My girls are there but it won't be any better here either. BUT with that said, they want to come home and deal with the storm here. I am praying the school cancels Monday/Tuesday classes so they can just come home. My other daughter wants to come home too but not sure about work for her. They are comparing this to Hurricane Hugo which hubby and I went through in 1989. It was the worst 6 hours ever (9 pm to 3 am). I don't want to go through that again. They are saying Irma will have devastating damage inland like Hugo. Please stay safe everyone.

I am in central NC and am feeling more nervous with every update. I'm seeing comparisons to Hugo & Fran which were disasters for inland NC. I'm trying to prepare for an extended power outage and am just really hoping trees don't fall on our house - our back yard is full of loblolly pines.

Of course the standards have all been covered. My biggest whine?? If I lose power, I will have zero phone charging capability. That is going to be an issue. My phone is through the cable company and that means that it will go without the power. My lighter thingy in my little truck doesn't work so no charging in the car. Inability to communicate is a problem. You sound prepared. What about picking up a couple small battery chargers to charge your electronics. If you get them now you'll be able to get them fully charged and have them on hand. I have a bigger one that will charge my phone 5 times or my iPad mini twice. They hold their charge for a long time too. I like Anker and RAV Power brands for these and I got mine on Amazon. Stay safe! SaveSave

My lighter thingy in my little truck doesn't work so no charging in the car. Inability to communicate is a problem. You should get a portable charger that uses batteries. Maybe the places that you saw had batteries would also have a portable charger. It could be a necessity for you! Don't hit up an empty Publix with PMS. You end up with a lot of crap like M&Ms, donuts, and Little Debbie Swiss Rolls. I think I love you!

Yesterday a friend of mine booked a flight from Ft Lauderdale to Boston. She was relieved and anxious to leave. This morning she went to check in and the reservation did not exist and never posted to her credit card even though it was confirmed yesterday. She could not get through to the airline, Jet Blue, and is now in her car attempting to drive north. I hope you can get her on a flight ASAP.

It may be too late for some of you - but there are solar powered and crank up cell phone chargers. I have one here in Minneapolis in case of a long power outage.

So many problems with computer systems not handling the volume. We'd get all the way through to pay, put all the information in and the reservation would disappear. We've gotten confirmation emails and the charge went through. We ended up getting her a flight on Delta. The other issue we had was getting refunds for the cancelled flights. Southwest credited the money back in full immediately. JetBlue did not and charged a fee! Finally got that straightened out too. Just hoping flights are not cancelled on Friday.

Prayers melissaschools here are closed for tomorrow and Monday. Traffic is a nightmare with 7 major highway including 2 interstates running through here. And to top things off, some idiot hit the I-75 overpass on US90 with his truck so traffic is backed up and being diverted there while the bridge inspectors determine if it's safe to use - with reports of concrete falling and rebar exposed -I'm not confident. I'm really hoping shelves won't be as bare as betty posted when I go shopping tonight...wish me luck I'm anticipating long lines and having to go to multiple stores

I just talked to ds in Georgia who said that there's now mandatory evacuation for the county that includes Savannah. He's in the county that's just west of that. His school has cancelled classes tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday, but ds said if the storm hits like they're expecting he's sure it will be longer than that. He and his roommates haven't decided if they're leaving or not. (well, they will if it becomes mandatory of course). One guy's mother lives in western NC so they thought they'd head there if they have to. They're going to board up all the big windows -- picture window, patio doors, etc. Yikes.

I went to Publix this morning to pick up a few of the weekly BOGO items, not specifically to get hurricane supplies. No water, no bread, not even flavored water, and worst of all no ramen noodles, no Spaghettios or Chef Boy Ardee ravioli! Same here! We're in New Port Richey, and I've been stopping in every Publix from Palm Harbor to here to Land O Lakes for the past 3 days with no luck!! We have no radio, batteries, not enough water or canned goods. We even went to Sam's Club. Insanity!!! I'll be baking and cooking what I can today. We're still waiting to hear if we'll get evacuated. So far I think we're safe here..... Good luck and prayers to everyone in this path. It's scary, and I'm not someone who gets worried! I've been thru rough blizzards in NY (and hurricanes) that left LI without power for 10 days......... but this? I'm scared!

My mom was at her publix first thing this morning though and they were putting out or restocked almost everything.

Have them keep a close watch on the track, Irma seems to go east then back west; western NC may end up in the track and inland flooding could be an issue. It's so hard watching the updates and seeing the damages and knowing that near misses and direct hits for some will be the difference in direct hits and near misses for others! Best for everyone even near the cone of uncertainty to be preparing (and come on Jose, just turn out to sea already, no one needs you following on Irma's heels!)

Those still looking for supplies, try smaller drug stores, dollar stores, hardware stores. Even office supply stores often have snack food, batteries, water etc.

Now I'm getting nervous. DH works at a hospital and has been called in to the PERT (ride-out team). So, he'll go early Saturday and stay until the storm passes. That leave me and DD with the 12 animals (8 of which are in cages at least). I don't really want to be here without him

DH has been dropping me off at work and seeking out any stores that have those items, to no avail! It's nuts! I'm SO mad at the disorganization of FL. I have to seek out to find info on evacuations. I did hear that I-95 has an 8 hr delay, and so do ALL roads heading out of FL. If you have no gas, what do you do? ? Where do you even head??? Maybe the panhandle for now?? Suggestions, FL Peas? ?? Everything is suddenly closing==I'm getting an influx of calls with cancellations from our doctors, my son said that Kohl's is closed as of tomorrow afternoon. Everything's closing. I think we should leave, but I don't know where to go or how to make it happen.

Hubby will be in Brussels so I am riding this out alone too but in Western NC where they say we will get about 60 mph winds and lots of rain. We will see. Not fun being alone during this for sure. Hugs to you!!!

Thanks, Patter! You be safe too. I HATE leaving my "stuff". I worked so hard to save it after my divorce, dragged it everywhere, and hate to leave it behind. but our lives matter more. Trying to dig out the urgent stuff and just leave. Taking Xanax with me for my sanity!
