I've been thinking a lot about this, and I wonder if this kit is a reaction to Kelly Purkey's success. Ali's new kits are less than half the price of KP's kits. Yes, AE's kits only have a 3x4 stamp, but they included chipboard, while KP's have a 4x6 stamps, alphabet stickers, and flair or some other embellishments. Thoughts? I think this is more in response to her own success/criticism. After the "million dollar chipboard" in December daily, she had to have realized people just want her product without feeling gouged which I think this kit will accomplish. It definitely answers to the critique she's been getting on her prices.

If I can get cards, chipboard and a 3x4 stamp for $10 total, why would I buy any of those things from her a la carte, especially if you have to add shipping?

For a long while there I was sure I was done with AE products. I quit my story kit and stamp sub in March and haven't missed it. This new one, though, I'm excited about. That said- if they raise the price- I will bail again. lol. (We're absolutely guaranteed the 9.99 price for 12 months, yes? We all know we can't trust SC to not change the rules in the middle of the game.)

It's actually more like getting it on sale for being willing to subscribe for a longer term. $16 for m2m isn't the deal $10 a month feels like, but it comes with the freedom to not be in a long term commitment. Also, a lot of people discuss how thin her kits feel because a lot of the value is in the class content. A lot of people, like myself, don't want to be paying for content they are unlikely to utilize...so this kit is a great middle ground. No class content, just straight up stuff that is themed appropriately for my corner of the world.

I am not sure about that...but Ali seems to be successful in her own right, and has other kits/subscriptions. To me it seems like an extension of her other subscriptions. She makes products for digital and physical, so this is a way to get some of her digital products into physical form for people who want them. This is what I think, too.

I'm just excited that she launched this kit. Perfect timing for me. I love the colors month on month. I love knowing what's coming and can look through past DT posts for ideas. My stash isn't themed so these kits will fill a gap nicely. I loved the monthly digitals but hate printing at home and the price point was too high. I stopped my story kit/stamp sub months and months ago as I had kit fatigue but I was starting to really miss getting Ali's kits and had been thinking about subbing again but was balking at the $40 price tag to get both. I missed the 40% off digital 1 day sale, which I was kicking myself about - because I had been holding out to get the March digital kit. I had already resigned myself to waiting until next years BF deal - as Ali rarely has a digital sale. Then I saw this announcement.....I feel like Xmas has come early for me. The kit is perfectly sized as in all honesty I don't need a lot, and this makes me feel better about my purchase. Between the SC stamp sub and this sub, I won't need to buy anything other than basics next year. Once my SC stamp sub is up I can drop that too.

I am so not a Christmas person, and don’t normally like traditional Christmas colors together, but I LOVE the colors in the For the Love Story Kit. The shades they used are very pleasing to my eye, I love that they threw in lighter greens, aqua, grey and black. They help make the kit more conducive to versatile, non-holiday stories, while still giving enough of a holiday feel for those that want to tell ‘for the love of Christmas’ stories. And that dark green is lovely. Really well-balanced. katiejaeger, I’m not sure if you’re still picking out the palettes, but if so, nicely done! And thanks for checking in with us to see if anyone had issues subscribing for the SbtM launch.

katiejaeger I signed up for the year too, but I can't find any suscription in my account. I don't understand why a Story Kit subscription shows up with my Stories By the month box. I can't edit it either. I did not ask for that. Could you look into this for me, please? Hi there! I would be happy to look into this for you! Can you message me your username?

I mean come on, her prices were out of control. She's not cheapening her brand, she's being more realistic.

For me this is a move that proves Ali does care about giving everyone the opportunity to tell their story.
I know that sounds a bit fluffy and first world problems but bare with me. Memory keeping and buying these supplies is not a human right but I feel like Ali has always been great at empowering those who don’t feel good enough or think they don’t have stories worth telling. That says something about her. Ali has something that makes her special and it’s why so many people pine after her products.
The price of scrapbooking supplies seems to just be going up and up and I can’t drop $40 a month plus international shipping on a single kit. But I do want the good quality supplies to help me tell my story. I started to doubt Ali and her intentions when the crazy price chipboard appeared.
This kit at the more reasonable and affordable price says to me that Ali wants everyone to have the chance to document their story with her supplies that help us tell our stories. You don’t have to have mega amounts of disposable income in the bank to be part of her community and learn from her. It makes her seem less like she’s in some sort of elitist club that only those with money to buy the - in my opinion - overpriced story kits have access to.
She is not a charity case and I get that this is business but I struggle to see the two connecting when someone tries to be so personal and relatable but then they’re charging through the roof for their products.
I feel like this is the most pretentious post I’ve ever written. I don’t mean it to sound that way. Maybe the ‘craft your story’ wool has been pulled well and truly over my eyes and I’m starting to become brainwashed. But I think this was a good move for Ali.
I am gonna go back to the SC thread and talk about AF’s bad business practices to balance it out.

I have mixed feelings about the kit selling out. On the one hand I set an alarm and was logged into my account 5 minutes before the release time because this ain't my first rodeo. But I also expected the kit to sell out, figuring that then they would have a better gauge of what interest is and be able to adjust the available number of kits accordingly.

Looks like I missed some phantom sub drama while I was at work all day. My subscription appears to have gone through just fine. I immediately checked my Orders & Subs to make sure it had been taken into account. It showed up as active so I didn't worry about not getting a confirmation by email... I'm glad I woke up extra early to catch this one. Does anyone know around which time it ended up selling out? mom @millefeuilles Are your troubles sorted now?

Yes, AE's kits only have a 3x4 stamp, but they included chipboard, while KP's have a 4x6 stamps, alphabet stickers, and flair or some other embellishments. Thoughts? I doubt it. It seems like a natural progression for Ali's brand within the Inked family. The timing fits: ABM left Inked in August which meant one PL-type sub went out the window. The Studio Calico Documenter kit does not appear to be picking up much steam (with the notable exception of the one-hit wonder that was the October kit). Ali also has the most loyal core of fans at Inked. The Story kits were never seasonal yet people love her main seasonal project, December Daily. It was the right time to grow and try her hand at offering a physical PL kit, period. And KP's monthly kit success appears to be pretty stable over the past couple of years anyway. AE's product development depends a lot more on the options open at Inked than reacting to indie designers, it seems to me. KP is still the mistress of snark and originality. Ali is just transforming available digital designs to physical format to get the maximum benefit from the effort that went into designing them. Clearly, it was the right idea at the right time: they sold out within hours. The demand was there.

Thank you. My ears still ache sometimes, but my hearing is better. Crossing my fingers it stays that way for as long as possible! I see we both got out of bed to subscribe to Stories by the month and went back to sleep. Do you think we have a problem? I honestly didn't think I woud suscribe for a year. Even a few seconds before I did. I wanted to, but wasn't sure. I guess my brain thought I might as well have been awake for something worthy!

I'm glad to read you can hear better now. Long-term health issues are no fun. 2. Ha, you were up nice and early for Ali Edwards too? There are worse problems to have... Like trying to subscribe after it sold out! My reasoning for 12 months instead of 6 is that I really liked July, September, October and December. Eh, might as well go for the whole lot because even if I won't end up using half the cards from the November kit, it was still worth it, I think? I mean, maths at 5:30 in the morning, not really my thing... Et en plus, j'ai fait un bac L. 3. What's up on your side of Provence? Did you also get a freaky 1h30 of snow on December 2nd (I'm down by the sea so it was très bizarre)? Attended any worthy santon markets?

I went out last night for a few Christmas drinks and my OH picked me up and I must have been a bit tipsy. He left me in bed at 5am this morning, I’m usually fast asleep but not today. I text him a few hours later and I said along the lines of - I was wide awake this morning at 5am for reasons I’m too embarassed to admit. He asks me if I vomited (from the alcohol) 😅 I said no and explained that I needed to get my hands on the latest and greatest in the scrapbooking world. He says - that’s more embarassing than vomiting from a few drinks. 😂😂👍

I was awake at 5.40 and I didn't even set up my alarm! My brain is now programmed with an AE software! 3. We had snow too, but I think it was on December 1st? Lots of snow in a short period of time! My niece was delighted! Haha! I wish I lived by the sea, too. No vague-submersion for you, I hope? Crazy Ana. Unfortunately, I've been working like crazy at my new job so I didn't attend any Christmas market. I think I went twice to a store since mid-november. I hope I'll catch up with the Cristmas season. We brought our tree home today. Baby steps!
