I really like this kit even though we are not the most outdoorsy people. I agree the add ons seem high in price. I don't know if I will actually get any. Also, the stamp/sticker that says Roam Far + Wonder Wide looks like Roam Fart to me lol. I can’t unsee that now!!!😂 That’s all I see now. Unusable. Lol.

I will probably cover the roam far (+sign) over with a (&) sticker. If I determine I don't like it the orginal way.

As a side note, I always struggle with the prompt cards that say something like "loving these things about August" for a specific month... I feel like there is a huge difference season to season, but not really month to month (outside of specific holidays). Anything I could think of that I love about August also fits June and July... is that just me? Can you use cards like that to highlight specific things you're loving about THIS particular August vs August in general?

Add "2020" and fill it with the stuff you didn't get into your PL pages (or centre a whole page around the card). I don't know how else I'd use such cards.

Travel Class Update: Lesson 2, Laura's album came out today. I love Laura and her style and personality in general. She had a good idea--create an album that summarizes all of the places she's traveled in her life (an idea that she shared in the promos for the class). There is nothing wrong her album, it's nice. But, the album is pretty basic for a class. She basically used two techniques for each location, both of which you can see in her promo images for the class (albeit, they are slightly different for each location, but you get the idea from the promo images). Her pages are mostly unembellished (which again, is completely fine, but I think it's self-explanatory and people take classes to learn something new, not just see someone slip photos in pockets). She did share a few other small techniques throughout the album, but they are all things I've seen before. She included a large write-up and photos of the steps as she went, like a long blog post, but not a full process video like Ali. She included a few quick videos of some of the steps--about 5 minutes each, and then a quick flip through at the end. It's hard for me to be super critical of her because she is so sweet and her album is nice, but it's just nothing special and not something that should be considered paid content. I just think she is so much more creative than this and wonder if time constraints got to her--she's including trips from her whole life, including her childhood, so that meant looking back through photos over 30+ years and printing/editing for all the trips. I would imagine she didn't have a huge timeline to create her content for the class and maybe a lot of it was taken up by selecting photos and coming up with journaling? Of course that content is the most important part of an album... but people take a class for the creative ideas... and I think she ran out of steam. Pretty disappointed because she was one of the contributors I was excited about. My biggest complaint with Laura is that basically all of the tips and content she has shared are available for free if you look at her IG sneaks. The actual lesson doesn’t add a ton of value, except for a flip through of her album.

My roam kit + august SBTM kit came on Friday... that was SO FAST. They actually got here the same day as my studio calico sub that allegedly shipped on the 6th... both from SC's warehouse in Bowling Green. Just weird.
But anyways, I LOVE THESE KITS. They are even better in person, I think this is possibly the best story kit ever, I can't wait to use it. I have so many ideas for stories, which is great because I was super stumped with the kindness story kit. The SBTM kit is also amazing, but the last few months really have been great... she uses the same color schemes for each month every year so it's the same months that tend to fall flat for me (I'm looking at you November) and the summer kits are always great.

It’s also annoying as if you mess up a card, you can’t easily purchase the digitals and print a new one...! Haha, yes. I'm with you on this. I've ruined two cards trying to print on them just this last month. TWO.

Her handwriting is so much messier and thicker than it used to be. 😕 Not a fan of that sloppy brush writing look.

Her handwriting is so much messier and thicker than it used to be. 😕 Not a fan of that sloppy brush writing look. She used to create her handwritten objects with a sharpie on white paper and then scan them in. But now she uses an apple pencil and iPad. Soon after she switched to using an iPad she started using this thicker "brush pen" style for awhile now. I like it, but it's definitely a change from before and I'm surprised she doesn't switch back and forth more often.

Ugh, I am so upset!!
I was creating a layout with the roam story kit and was super excited about it... I was using the white plastic word "roam" as my title and was halfway through the layout and left it on my desk to go make dinner. When I got back my cat had stolen the word "roam" and broke it! I would just glue it back together but I can't find the "m" anywhere... I spent way longer than is reasonable crawling around the entire house searching for it.
What should I do? I considered using the digital version on my photo instead, but I really wanted the dimension. Thoughts?

You could cut out the word several times with cardstock and layer it for some dimension. You also could contact Ali’s CS and maybe see if they offer to send another one?

I do have a silhouette, but I haven't pulled it out in ages... I guess I will probably do that because it will give me a similar effect. I'm just so upset about it I just put the whole page away last night, but hopefully when I pull it out again today that will be enough to spark my creativity again. I did consider contacting Ali's CS but my guess is they won't send a replacement because it is not their fault it is broken so I feel kinda meh for even asking.

nicolep omg thank you! I just sent you a message. Citygirl thank you for the offer too! I didn't use them in the very beginning but now I use them as titles frequently and it's often one of the first pieces I use! You can also color them really easily with Ali's pigment inks + clear embossing powder. I will post a few photos of pages I have done using them in a little bit The roam one is for a page about walks my husband and I have been taking with our dog at lunchtime now that we work from home. My title is going to be "Let's Roam the neighborhood" and I am going to use the white acrylic piece of "roam" and then either stamp or add letter stickers for the rest of the title.

Hi everyone!
I registered for this account just so I could ask this question: can anyone tell me about Ali's "Stories of Travel" class? I scrap exclusively digitally and already have my own aesthetic that I'm pretty happy with, so I'm not looking for layout inspo. What I'm most interested in from her description of the class is the following: "What to do before, during, and after travel to help you tell the kinds of stories you want to tell; Pre-planning ideas to help you decide on an intentional documenting approach; Tips for being present while traveling + still getting stories told." How deeply does she get into those points? Will it be like 5 seconds of that stuff and then mostly flip-throughs and things that are irrelevant to me? (A search of this forum and reading what others had to say about this class a couple of years ago made it...sound not all that much like what I'm looking for.) It's an expensive class and I don't want to pay for it if it's mostly stuff I don't care about, but if she heavily covers the items I quoted above then it would probably be worth it for me.
Also interested in suggestions of classes elsewhere in the scrapbooking world that could help with the above!
Thanks ever so much.
(BTW, as an unregistered user I have spent literally months not doing a lick of work at my job and just reading the Ali, Beggy, and Studio Calico threads for hours and hours to amuse myself. This coming from someone who has never done business with any of them! My sincerest thanks for the endless entertainment.)

Ups and Downs kit reveal is live here on Ali’s blog aliedwards.com/2020/07/ups-downs-collection-now-availableI think the colours are lovely, but it’s not the right kit for me. I tend to only document the highs of my life so I wouldn’t have any use for the ‘downs’. The main kit feels highly priced though... I’m sure the value is there instead of buying the components separately but it seems expensive. How long will it be before kits start costing $100? I adore the pleather rainbows though. I do love a dimensional embellishment.

This kit would work well with Late Afternoon by Amy Tangerine that's about to come out for anyone looking to supplement it. Not for me either, peachiceteas. My pandemic mini albums focus on the little pleasure and ways of passing time instead of the actual down moments. I can't embellish unhappy times. I can write about them, I can log them in a journal but I can't add flowers and chipboard. That doesn't do it for my scrappy heart. I'm sure it'll be a good kit for those wanting an Ali Edwards aesthetic for these current times.
