Why wouldn’t you have a video ready to go with all of this information to put in the blog post? lol

There's a lot of disappointment here, if that's how you feel right now, a scrappy hug to you.
I guess I'm one of the few that enjoy scrapping outside the pp and find the format change interesting. I was considering going to a TN (a la Nancy Damiano) but this has me reconsidering.
My biggest pet peeve with AE kits for 2022 has been the chipboard with no adhesive. I don't mind putting on my own, but when the pieces fall all over the place, it drives me nuts.

Like a lot of you, I am super disappointed with the changes to the SOTM kit. I like the simplicity of pocket pages. All those papers will do nothing for me. Half a kit that I can't use.

At first glance I liked the new kit, but after inspection I see that there’s quite a big I would likely not use or want. I think the font is cute. The mix of colors is nice imo. I don’t need it and am not tempted. I rarely pick up a SBTM kit, so this change won’t affect me, but I’m sorry for you peas that are bummed with the changes.
I’m definitely cranky about the price increasing again. The words say subscription price is increasing $2, which I think is probably tricky because last time they increased by $1 *for shipping*. So, really, this is a $3 increase from a year ago.
I have a month or 2 left on SK and I’ll be glad to cut it loose. I love Ali, but her sub kits are the last I reach for. I will miss the class content though.

I got the project play for free from a give away so I can’t complain but what I’m seeing wouldn’t make me purchase another year. The disparity of ideas/quality is a lot. Some are decent/fine. Some are really good and some are… sorry, but pretty bad. Agree. 100%.

Coming back on to say that Ali answered that question in the blog post comments: "I hope to share on + off in the classroom (it will be run by Lisa)." UGH. This is disappointing. So it would be +$2 for the kit and +$5 to get the inspiration? No thanks.

I think you can add the digital kit for $5 as a physical kit subscriber. And it’s 9.99 for the digital + inspiration.

Well I commented on Ali’s blog about how the papers won’t work cut down, and she replied that the rest of the months are better aligned. We’ll see. I may keep my sub for this month and see what the Feb kit looks like. If it doesn’t improve I will likely have to cancel. Awesome!! well, that's still kind of annoying for the consistency this project is supposed to inspire.

I really enjoyed the repeating cards and that was the reason I subbed this year as I was back to PL for the first time in years. I used Ali's SBTM and Story Kits as well as Paper Person's subs. I used the repeated cards every month - and really made it easier for me to complete PL. I was able to mix in the Story kits when the color palettes aligned and the PP for her monthly calendar cards and misc. I need to reduce my subs regardless.
I love the idea of vellum papers in this new SBTM kit, but I have the same thought as others re wanting convenient pocket page sizes. I am debating on completely switching up PL and using a Heidi Swamp Stop the Blur planner. I bought one earlier this year, but the pages are small, so I do wonder if I would really complete them. I probably own 20-30 AE word sticker sheets and do not want or need more. I was ready to cancel and I'm going to wait to see what else she posts in the next day or so.
ETA - I watched the video and she does a really nice job of going through the kit. I still think it is a great value and I still love her style, but it just confirmed I need a break from so many kits. I will continue with my Story kit, and will do OLW ( thought there were some cool things in the sneak) and WITL, but I will probably try to figure out a different way to capture my PL in 2023....

If you guys haven’t watched the video on the blog (at the bottom of the post) you should. Ali explains the new kit and she even shows a brief preview for February so you can see what another month would look like.
She said each month there will be a piece of 6x8 vellum and January was the only one with text - the other months will be a pattern so it’s easier to cut/use for all sizes- granted February is butterflies (not a fan) but at least the size workable. 😂 The 3x8 piece is always going to be the month at the top. She said they will be including a digital version of that piece in a true 3x8 in the page protector version for us each month as well if you need that option (that could be cut to 3x4). And for the patterned piece of 6x8 she said it will usually be things you could cut out- February showed six heart (looks similar to the pocket hearts she does).
So while I still don’t love the changes, it appears January might just be a month with the worst options for making it work for page protectors - which is very unfortunate as that’s our intro to the new kit. I do like the change up to the stamp - so tired of all the details/moments/story prompts. I mean some are great but at some point we got it. Don’t need more. There is another number set on the Feb stamp (just one) but I would like that so I’m ok with it.

well, that's still kind of annoying for the consistency this project is supposed to inspire. Well, truthfully, I agree with you. I'm trying so hard to like this kit and be positive, but I really don't...and with Ali not being in the classroom much...that doesn't bode well. Lisa takes great photos, but her pocket pages are very minimalist, and nothing close to Project Life that I've seen. Ali used to always inspire me with her pocket pages. There are a couple of people who also could do a good job with this...the jury is definitely still out if I will keep this kit subscription or subscribe to something else, like Freckled Fawn.

F@#$g Jeremy...
His contribution to this discussion is that the world is constantly changing and I should always be ready to change with it.
Now I admit, I've never been one who is beholden to trends. And this feels like a trend. I'm trying to imagine how I would feel in ten years looking back at my albums.
But maybe if you had been doing project life since its inception pocket pages might feel tired to you. I did my first pocket page album in 2021. And then 2022 was planned but got derailed. So it still feels new to me.
He thinks I ought to buy a 6x8 album, take less pictures, and just scrapbook what feels meaningful to me. He also said that he even thinks this will suit me better this year because it can feel like a whole lot less pressure to scrapbook every single little thing.

paget I watched the video just now. I feel a little bit better about it. That big sheet of printed vellum is not very usable so I'd probably just insert it. And at least the other big paper could feasibly be cut down into pockets. Maybe I was too harsh. Maybe I was a big baby about it.

We are allowed to feel disappointed it’s not what we thought/wanted/looked forward to. But once I look at things a bit I can usually see how I could use it or other benefits. The video helped me to know going forward it appears things would be more useable to me than I thought. I like making my own cards so I might enjoy that with cutting some things apart and stamping while still also having some of the traditional ready to go cards. Maybe we could post some of our pages using the new designed kits to inspire each other? Sometimes things just suck though and aren’t for you and that’s ok, too! Lol

I completely agree with you all. A lot of people were not happy with the changes, and I think we all did the right thing by saying so. And I think Ali would appreciate it, too. At least this way they can address the concerns. If all of us who didn't like it just stopped our subscription, they'd lose a lot of subscribers. I think Ali is surrounded by a lot of ass kissers. I don't think Katie is one of them, I think Katie genuinely cares about Ali and the business. But there are a LOT of ass-kissers on social media who want to ride the Ali train to success. Take Amber for example: she will take every opportunity to compliment Ali. Every one. And she is the first to answer a supply question with an affiliate link. The other day, she just posted a link to a sewing machine to be "helpful." I think Ali could post that she is taking Betty's doggie doo doo and smearing it on her craft room walls just to try something different, ha, and a bunch of them would do it and post photos of it. "Doggie doo doo walls. GAME CHANGER!!" LOL. Anyway, I think Ali would appreciate polite the honesty. I'm actually feeling better now that I saw the video Ali posted. The kit seems more usable to me. I'm glad all of us who spoke up about our issues with the kit did it.

I actually quite like the changes, but even though I use 9X12 and 6X8 albums, I will sometimes use the single pocket page protectors for my layouts. I'm not tied to the 3X4 and 4X6 pockets, but I can see why the changes would bother folks who scrap in those configurations. I like the full-page vellum, and that's a big reason for me to want to subscribe to the physical kit rather than the digital. I like having different textures, but my printer doesn't play well with vellum or transparencies. I haven't been a subscriber this year, but I will probably start up again in January.

I think some people use the PL app to get photos into smaller configurations to print photos.

I love making Project Life 9x12 albums (I purchased 4 extras when SB.com started selling them, so I could do a catch up of previous years) and have no desire to change to 6x8. Aside from my own personal preference, I don't understand, from a business perspective, why they're focusing on 6x8, since 90% (I made that number up) of the PL videos I watch on YouTube are either 12x12 (mostly) or 9x12. At the beginning of this year, I subscribed to Ali's SBTM and Studio Calico's Documenter kit. Like @skellinton, I hate Ali's handwriting, and have been thinking of cancelling at the end of my one-year sub. <shrug> I like Studio Calico's kit better anyway. Also, I just sub'd to Elle's Studio and find their products very useful. Just my 2 cents.

I just watched the video and glad I did. I’m an pretty simple scrapper on Project Life and kind of lazy when it comes to planning. I just print 4x6 photos at the end of month, and since I take both horizontal and vertical, I add different sized pages or flip ups outside the page protectors to accommodate whatever stories I want to tell.
I think the kits might work even in a 9x12 or 12x12 album, unless I’m overlooking something?

I bought last years kit when I had a coupon to use this year - which will be my first year of the project. The cards are all 3x4 and there are 6x8 papers (true 6x 8 that fit in a page protector). The album they sell that goes with this project for last year is 6x8. Who knows about this year… I think it’s being announced soon. There is a OLW thread here as well if you haven’t seen that.

I'm an occasional mtm subber, dipping in and out. I did not like what I saw at all. I don't think AE makes interesting patterned paper, apart from liz tamanha. I seriously disliked the designs in the quartely scrapbook kit and AE's patterned paper designs are the reason I don't buy the Dd main kit. I thought the Halloween kit was great this year.
I think AE's strengths are in making pl style cards and her classroom content and the more and more she moves away from that, then her brand becomes less appealing to me.

I have been processing the changes to the SBTM kit and although there are a couple of things I don't like, I am trying to be positive. The past couple of years I have done a PL 12x12 album on a monthly basis. The SBTH kits were perfect for this. However, I have been struggling to fill up my spreads this year as I am taking fewer and fewer photos. I think this new format with the 6x8 pages might be just the incentive I need to switch to a 6x8 album. I can just focus on scrapping the highlights from each month and there will be less pressure to fill up two 12x12 spreads. I get the digital kits as I am in Europe and it's just too expensive with the shipping and customs fees, but the upside is that I can alter cards and colours to suit my own style. I also love the fact that there will now be a class. I am just sad that it won't be Ali providing that inspiration. Anyway, it's impossible to please everyone with the new changes, and I totally get those who are disappointed, but I think that this is going to work out for me in the end.

I was reflecting on her products and services last night and this morning. I absolutely think she is gifted in instruction - her classes are always well thought out and I learn something every time, and some classes I have repeated - they are that good. And I like her aesthetic most of the time. I also think her conceptual ideas are original and life-giving, at least to me. WITL, Dec Daily and One Little Word have all really shaped me creatively and my personal growth over the last decade. I love them and will continue them all. I think for OLW the addition of other voices has been great and it suits the project. This was my first year to do the SBTM and it was a good fit for me picking up PL in a 9x12 album format. I actually like the colors and some of the designs in the Jan kit, but the product selection going forward is not the fit for what I want to do next year - its fine, just not how I want to do it. I knew I needed to reduce subs, so this made it easy and I already cancelled. You know, there really are so many kinds of customers and scrapbookers and I think you just need to think about what you want/need for the next year and then do what makes sense.
