I got the project play for free from a give away so I can’t complain but what I’m seeing wouldn’t make me purchase another year. The disparity of ideas/quality is a lot. Some are decent/fine. Some are really good and some are… sorry, but pretty bad. I'm in the same boat. I got it for free so I can't complain. I agree. Some of the lessons have been ... interesting. I think it's like buying a kit or a whole line of something. You are never going to like every single item. So you have to look at the cost and see if the items that you want justify the whole cost. So far I'm at %50 with the lessons. I've really liked some and have been very inspired. I've added lots of ideas to my list. Then others, not so much. There was also a lot of excitement early on and people were posting their images all over. That has settled down a lot. I think I would have been disappointed if I had paid and then the content was out there for free. I can figure out how to do most things just by looking at them but I have actually learned quite a lot by watching the videos -- tips and tricks I wouldn't have thought of that make things easier (or just make sense). Shu-Wen's lesson has been the absolute star and was like 4 lessons rolled into one. Great value there (for ACOT as well as I went and bought lots of the supplies she used. HA!!). I have bought several of the original product play series and also the last 2 years of 30 ideas. I would say that the original course structure with less contributors yielded more consistent ideas and still includes videos and great details. I go back and revisit several of the original ones every year for ideas. I think there is a difference between being a creative and knowing how to instruct and share/foster ideas. Not everyone has that skill set. I think Shu-Wen is a real star at that as are a number of the longer-time contributors (like our Legal pea Linda).

For some reason I got the email about the stories by the month changes. I don't subscribe, but they seem like good changes to me. What do you all think?

I had to pop in because no one in my real life could possibly understand my extreme upset at AE's new kit.
I was actually gearing up to possibly return to project life in 2023. I love Ali's aesthetic and was looking forward to this year getting the Stories by the Month kit. I wanted my entire year to be consistent this year and was banking on this kit. I had already decided to size down to 9x12 too and have an order at Scrapbook.com ready to pull trigger on with an album and page protector in that size.
And then this email today...sigh. I went over to the blog on my computer so I could see it up close and personal. And what she's showing for the January kit is so freaking depressing. Why, why, why did she lose the cards in favor of papers that don't even look like they are true 6x8 but instead that weird out of the 6x8 page protector size? And then a 3x8 too which I'm sure isn't 3x8 either. And then the papers that she's showing don't even look like you can possibly cut them down to fit inside 4x6 pockets as they are full page designs.
I have subscribed to Hip Kit and I have subscribed to Elle's Studio for project life in the past and was so looking forward to an Ali vibe this year, less bright colors. But I actually wanted to do a project life book, not a 6x8. And I for sure don't want to scrapbook outside the page protector. I love Ali vibe but damn, I'm so disappointed with these changes. Just so disappointed.

Just so disappointed. I totally agree. The bigger pages aren’t even designs that can be cut down. I am an in-the-pocket kind of scrapper and that 3x8 January card looks more like 3.75 or 4” wide… if you cut it down to 3” to fit in the pocket it will cut off part of the word. Ugh.

jeremysgirl (welcome back) I am also disappointed. I have zero use for the 6x8 papers in my PL. I already put up with them in the story kits but now to have them in the SBTM, too? Big fat bummer. Also that 6x8 shown is fugly. And you are totally right- it won’t even cut down properly for pocket pages! I love my SBTM so much last year so this stinks. This is my last month of my 12 month sub, I will probably end up keeping it but I’ll be really bitter about it. It doesn’t help that the font is ugly to me. Maybe next month will be better. But I get you. ETA: seems like all AE stuff is really pushing us out of pocket pages.

Oh, I did guess there would be 6x8 papers as part of the changes due to the redesigned size of the envelop last month. I can’t believe that they didn’t have the foresight (or just didn’t care) to make it a design that could work for pockets - like a solid pattern, etc. very annoyed. I hope going forward there is feedback to at least do that. Not sure how to give feedback? I know I wasn’t asked about anything in a survey.

Do I just accept these changes and do a 6x8 project life and use the papers outside the page protector when I don't like that look at all? I'm sorry to be a big baby but I feel like this just shot my entire plan to hell.

I don't remember any questions about paper. But I was a story kit subscriber at that point and I did leave a comment that I think too many of her embellishments are too big for pocket pages. I guess that some people are just driving changes and either we adapt or get left behind. I don't know what to think.

I don’t remember getting a survey either and I have been a SBTM subscriber since the beginning. It seems a waste to keep getting the kit when half of it will be unusable for me. I don’t know why she couldn’t have designed full-page or 3x8 papers that would still work cut down.
Also it’s now $2 more due to the size of papers I don’t even want.

Ok I just went and looked at it again. Also ticked the price increased $2 for a less usable kit for me. Grrrr.
The 3x8 January: you could cut it down to a 3x4, loosing a little of the J and y probably but it could be ok EXCEPT “details” under it would be messed up and say tails probably. I could just put a little sticker over it. Annoying but can work.
The it’s a brand new year. I’d have to cut it to be “new year” as a 4x6 card but it works. Wastes the rest though.
The pattern- you could cut it on the side so there’s pattern on the edge for a 3x4…. Wouldn’t look great IMO. I’d probably just cut the sheet into 3x4 cards and stamp my own cards on the other side.
Wow.

I subbed mid-year to the SBTM kit and was thankfully able to get the 2022 kits I missed during their past kit sales. I have 4 more months left in my sub, so was hoping that I would like the 2023 version of the kits, but I am not keen on the new configuration of products—definitely prefer mostly 3x4 and 4x6 cards. I use these types of monthly kits for more of a yearly highlights or year-in-review style of memory keeping instead of Project Life. I may take a look at Elle’s Studio for next year. Or maybe go digital. Sadly there aren’t many monthly kit options anymore

I will probably keep using SBTM - I’ll give it a couple months and see how it works for me. For you, I’d either get Ali’s kit and adapt what you can or go a different way if that’s going to be too annoying for you. I do 9x12. I don’t mind adapting things a little - but if it continues to be outside the cutable pocket parts I’ll have to rethink it. I. didn’t care for my Elle’s studio kit so if I want a kit this is what I’m doing. Dang, it’s annoying!

Sadly there aren’t many monthly kit options anymore This is the damn, sad truth. And what is left (Hip kit and Elle's Studio) every single month is a rainbow of colors. I'd like to see things narrowed down and a bit more tailored. I've been debating for a while now going back to digital. I may just have Esther's computer revamped (I've been putting it off) and do it that way. At least I would be able to resize everything from Ali's kit to actually work the way I want it to. I just feel bad about this plan because I still have so much paper and stamps.

Paper is OK, but just make it to where we can cut it down if we want to. I may unsubscribe after this. Also, they didn't say which cards would be repeated every month. FWIW, I LOVED the 2022 SBTM kits.

I've even already purchased my albums and page protectors for 2023. Linda Jordan (lindalovescreating) does 12x12 Project Life and I just love her pages. She does AE and a couple other kits, I'm going to keep a tight eye on what she does, and probably do the same.

I do like that better than gratitudes which I was tired of so that’s one good change for me.

Thank you for sharing! I sub to Elles now and was thinking I might change it up for next year. I don’t love the amount of Ali’s handwriting on products and was worried about the shipping issues that I kept hearing about. This kind of seals the deal for me. Elles has been great, I was only looking to change the colors for next year.

Well I commented on Ali’s blog about how the papers won’t work cut down, and she replied that the rest of the months are better aligned. We’ll see. I may keep my sub for this month and see what the Feb kit looks like. If it doesn’t improve I will likely have to cancel.

Per the blog comments there will be 2 repeating elements….the 3x8 card and one 3x4 card. I’m undecided at this point. The size change doesn’t bother me as I like to mix it up in my PL. I do 9x12. The new class content might be good. I bought all the digital kits from 2022 because I loved them so I may go that route. After successfully keeping up with my PL this year I’ve realized that I’m very much a minimalist and don’t use many embellishments. I’m also sick to death of those sticker sheets. They almost never get used. Not wild about the price increases at all. I wanted to do a 12 month sub to the story kits but now idk.

I actually like the look of this kit enough to possibly resubscribe after a year off. I am a 12x12 pocket scrapper for Project Life, but I do other sizes, too. I can potentially use the paper in other places, if it doesn't cut down well. (That said, the one with the giant postage stamps over floral... I don't even know what is going on there!) What I'm most excited about is the design and variety. I like this new font with the curl, and there aren't a million items with "January" on them. Hmmm... should I...?
Do you think Ali will also be providing project inspo and process videos? She mentioned the contributors but nothing about herself. That might be the clincher for me. I find her work highly inspirational.

Wow, I didn't realize so many of you use the SBTM as PL kits. Granted, I don't even.sun to Ali's kits because as I am sure you are all sick of hearing I hate her handwriting..l am also not a pocket scrapper at all so when I use the cards and stuff from KP (the kit I get) I put them on a 9x12 or occasional 6x8 layout so for me the 6x8 pp would be a positive change. Much easier to use then her cards with words on them. I didn't even look at what the patterns were because I knew I wasn't going to sub. I completely agree that the outside the pp paper is stupid though. I didn't realize that is what the paper was, I thought it said it was 6x8 so I just assumed it was true 6x8.
I am sorry so many of you are disappointed, I completely understand that this kit would not work for pocket scrapping which seems incredibly foolish, but frankly, typical SC Inked shortsightedness.
