I agree for sure that she's been very consistent with her message and she's worked hard to get where she is. I remember her from 2peas circa 2003. Simon and my son are the same age and both on the spectrum, so her work always stood out to me. I really did have a lot of respect for her until her prices got so high and she started with the silly "lifestyle" stuff. Of course I don't know how their agreement works, but I'm guessing Ali has the final say on pricing, or at least a lot of input. After all it's her name and brand. If she didn't want to be selling tiny $8 notepads, she wouldn't be. Unfortunately I don't think we can blame April Foster for that. I agree. While we can certainly blame some of this on April - at the end of the day its Ali's name on the logo and she surely gets final say. I used to be a huge fan of Ali's - at one point a day subscriber of her kit and stamp each month. I use to buy her digitals before they were offered in her shop (was it Designer Digitals?). Now if I spend any money with her, I feel guilty doing so knowing I am supporting rehashed designs from her, and lining Aprils pockets at the same time. Atleast if she were not recycling so much then I could feel like I was supporting her being creative. Re her classes: I put no value on them as I cannot stand to listen to her vocal fry. 5 min in and I am wanting to hit the mute. The $25 chipboard is very telling to where Ali's mindset is.She saw 'sucker' written on peoples forehead. (Not to offend anyone who bought it, but thats my opinion). She wanted to force people to spend $$ to get any chipboard. Instead of offering it in reasonable sets of 2-3 coordinating sets, they threw all 7 in one set. Personally, I don't feel like all 7 really go together. If they had put the 4x4 circles as a set, the 4x4 squares as a set and the 4x6 sets together and did three sets, I probably would have boughten a set or two. Or if she had sold them individually, I defiantely would have boughten some. BUT by forcing people to spend $25 for chipboard, she missed out selling me any. Which is fine. But it is a missed sale from me & many others. For comparison, you can get 2 4x6 chipboard star sets, sequins and cork circles all for $11 which is reasonably priced. Re: the lifestyle brand - insert my eyes rolling. I am glad she is getting fit. Yay for her. But for me, the t-shirts are a joke. They are thin and the sizing looks off. I do think the timing of getting fit is coincides nicely with her upcoming wedding in a couple of months. I just feel like this is going to be like Cathy Zelski's get fit push she always has around the first of the year. She sells a class and some product then falls off the wagon. SaveSave

It's hard for me to side with an argument for diminishing or poor value unless you actually assign a value to the class content. Just saying "I understand you're paying for class content" isn't really enough. I can only assume she spends hours and hours creating this content, and wants to be compensated for her time. Looking at the cheapest self paced class she offers (which may or may not be comparable) the price is regularly $9.99. If you assign that to a story kit it's about half of the value of the kit if you are a 12 month subscriber. Are the contents of the kits not worth $9.99? Has the class content diminished? With that being said is the free digital kit enough if you are a subscriber to both? Since you are paying for the education twice. Would it be better if you got a discount? What do you think? I subbed for 13 months and didn't assign a ton of value to the class content, honestly. I always used her layouts and her design team's projects for inspiration, but a lot of times never even watched the videos. Most (all?) sb companies have a design team, so I'm not sure that's something I was willing to pay extra for with AE. I know some people do think the AE videos are worth more though. Just because you didn't watch the videos does not mean they have no value. If you buy a product and throw half of it away it doesn't mean you didn't pay for it. Money and time goes into creating that content.....Whether or not you use it does not change the fact that the creator invested time and money and should be compensated for that. Yes, all sb companies have a design team but not all subscriptions include class content so you are comparing apples to oranges. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I like Ali's minimal style and the look of her product, but at some point it gets too repetitive and looks too much like Ali. I feel that way about any designer's line. At some point i get burned out and need a change of pace and for things to look like mine. The storytelling part is just not me. It's too angsty and emotion driven. I'm a basic who what where when. i do tell some stories, but they are pretty much fact based and I lean toward funny instead of sappy. That's just me, i don't begrudge others telling their stories that way. I do appreciate her December Daily product and even purchased a kit in 2015. Agree about the stories. A lot of the stuff I wrote during my "inspired by Ali" phase sounds pretty cringey to me now. My innermost feelings don't need to be on display for my kids and their friends to read through in the family scrapbook, lol. I'm way more comfortable keeping it light.

After several messages back and forth I was given the option of another 'notebook' or a refund get the refund. Edited: this just irritates me. They KNOW they screwed people with how they priced it. They have acknowledged that publicly. But instead of owning up to the mistake you had to have several messages back and forth to get it fixed? Nope. Dollars to donuts, unless others complain then they won't ever fix the issue (issue #1 was not including the page count to begin with and 2) incorrect pricing. SaveSaveFirst I was asked for a photo to ensure I had gotten the correct product i didn't send one and told them I was sure it was the correct product then I was told it had stated on the product page that it was 25 pages i replied that it wasn't at that Moment or when I purchased and in fact ali had been asked on fb and she had said she didn't know then I was offered the refund, to be honest I don't feel another notebook would have come anywhere near what I paid

After several messages back and forth I was given the option of another 'notebook' or a refund I don't know what I was expecting, but that seems ridiculous. They made it seem like it was a mistake on their part to price it at $8 and that they all should have been at a lower price. It certainly should not have taken several messages back and forth for them to offer you a refund. Eta: when Katie popped in here she made some comment about how she was looking into it and she agreed. I would have assumed that that meant an easy fix. I'm a little dismayed that it took them so long to come to the conclusion that you should have been refunded. She actually said Thank you for reaching back out to us. I again apologize for the frustrations experienced with this item. The Timeline Notepad product page does indicate that the notepad comes with a total of 25 3x8" pages. I never saw it written anywhere and i and I looked the day they were released and the last day before they shipped, and at the time of my conversation

And I'm really curious if they'll offer that option to everyone who bought it. Specifically, will they be reaching out to everyone who bought one and saying "Hey, sorry we screwed up. We want to make it right. Reply to this email and let us know if you want another notebook or a full refund" ? They shouldn't be waiting for people to convo with a complaint, nobody should have to justify or prove it like gigi333 was asked to, and they shouldn't use a no-reply email. That would be what good customer service would look like to me.

If larger companies (cars/phones/etc) can do "recalls" for their customers, surely Ali can email all those that received the product and give options.

That yours is fine- no problem here? Good grief. Katie made it sound like they had priced it incorrectly, because that's really not an $8 item. I imagined they'd be giving partial refunds. Apparently not.

I agree and am a former big time fan girl. The stench of Inked Brands is starting to rub off on her for many of us. It is also undeniably having a negative impact on the quality of products. Which is really too bad because you won't find a bigger Ali fan than I used to be. She's had a lot of us reach out to her and she smiles, nods, and climbs back in bed with them. For those reasons, Ali you're chopped. This, exactly. Ali talks a good game, but at the end of the day she's happy to be an Inked brand. And honestly her prices are much crazier than SC's. At least SC has good sales, and we've been picking up those $5 kits for months and months now. But Ali's prices are bonkers. I almost feel bad for the people getting suckered in by the "your story matters" stuff, and how Ali makes them feel. There's definitely a "self-help" element to her work that I think is very appealing to some people. Scrapbooking as therapy, almost. A lot of us need that. I do think she cares about her customers and wants to do right by them, but the greed is SUCH a turnoff for me. She knows she's "in" right now and she's really milking it. Fun exercise: go get out 5 of your story kit chipboards, line them up, and ask yourself if you'd be willing to fork over $25 for them. I was sorting through mine this morning looking for the right piece and did just that. Guess what my answer was . Ok, I won't bring up the chipboard again, I swear. lol Her story kits are what got me back into scrapbooking. I actually started with the first kit. And she made me feel ok using it, instead of hoarding it as I had done in years past. But since she's went with inked, it's been one money grab after another and I feel like she thinks she's worth double what everyone else charges. The arrogance behind her simple philosophy is very annoying and she is not very likable to me anymore. She is a genuine person, but when you factor in the prices she charges for what you actually get, the genuine starts to fade away and she starts seeming more like a corporation. There's my 25 cents worth.

Yeah I am not ready to call her lazy - but I think if you're teaching a class on it, you should probably pretend to stay the course, even if. you aren't. Or maybe just not teach a long class about it. I think Cathy has a lot of offer her readers, but I am not sure a health base class is the best fit for her. Now a beginner card class? Id partake in that. SaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSave

I know she's a far quieter voice in the scrap world than we're used to but she's got a way with thinking her product through and delivering time after time. I pray the scrap gods Inked don't get their hands on her and turn her into the next minimalist subscription kit brand.

I agree that the class content has value, but there's a question of value to whom. When her kits go on sale they don't include the class and are sold for $14.99. To me that means the value to her and Inked must be $5. To me, the value is far less than that because I only watched the videos for the first Story Kit I received when I subscribed. I'm not even sure I ended up watching them all. A few Story Kits later and I discontinued my subscription because I don't care to pay for things that I don't value.

I can see how that would be helpful for someone just starting out, but I can almost always recreate layouts I like just from a photo. Every product line has inspiration available online, even if it's just pics of layouts that people have put in manufacturer galleries, instagram or pinterest. So I personally don't assign any monetary value to class content when deciding how much I want to pay for a sub. I don't need or want it- just show me some pics of finished producst!

Saying it has no value to you is different than saying it has no value in regards to the price of the kit which is what my point was. If I never use the 10 journaling cards or the acrylic word that comes in each monthly kit does that mean it has no value? No, of course not.....It just means I wasted my money.

Would be silly to always preface it with "well, for me personally...". None of us is in a position to objectively determine "What the Kit is Worth." You obviously value all the content, I don't. No big deal.

You have made your point that you do place value on it. To each their own. You aren't going to suddenly change her mind and make her appreciate the class content. Bickering and nitpicking back and forth isn't helping.

no email here asking me if I would like a refund or whatever. I knew going in that there were 25 sheets, because I asked on one of Alis blog posts. What I did not know, what the paper quality would be so poor (imo). I have several pads from her that have come in story kits or DITL or WITL kits and the paper is thicker, by far. This pad is made from the thinnest paper I have ever seen. I am not happy but am not willing to go back and forth w/ CS over it, proving I purchased it and then having them tell me that the description included information that it just didn't.

no email here asking me if I would like a refund or whatever. I knew going in that there were 25 sheets, because I asked on one of Alis blog posts. So this makes me wonder about the 3x8 pad she has for DD. I didn't order it because I have some left from previous years, but is it now going to be thin too?

What’s interesting is the DD log book is 35 pages and $6.99. So it’s 10 pages more than the Time one and a dollar less? (Time was 7.99 right?) I actually got the DD one. I’m not sure why, because I remember thinking I easily recreate it in Photoshop. But I Just checked my order and I picked it up. I probably decided I wouldn’t spend the time to do it if I didn’t buy it. As long as it isn’t tissue thin, I’m fine with it. I would not have been fine with the $8 for 25 pages one.

Wait, they want you to prove you bought an item they can see you bought just by checking your order history? That has SC written all over it. Kind of like when they wanted people to take pictures of items they didn't even receive to be sure they didn't actually get it.
