Only if it's a work trip and I need it for my expense report.
Personal gas, I don't bother. I would just throw it away. Unless I was overcharged an obscene amount, I probably wouldn't notice anyway. If it was a crazy amount, the size of my gas tank would hopefully be the 'proof' I would need. If I was pulled over, I guess I could pull up my banking info since I use my debit card and it immediately shows as a pending transaction. (but I have zero worry about that)

For my personal car, no never. If I'm driving a rental in a work trip, yes for my expense account (but only if the charge is $25 or more as work doesn't require receipts for smaller charges).

Only when I am driving my car for work reasons, I won't get reimbursed without a receipt.

There is one gas station that I go to that doesn't give you the choice of not getting a receipt. It automatically prints out and then beeps at you incessantly until you take it. When I have the option to not get a receipt for gas, I don't get one.

I get a receipt #1 just in case I'm ever accused of not paying and #2 because I save receipts for the week and then add them up and deduct them from my check register balance. (I don't actually balance to my statement, but I do log purchases and check my online balance. I pay bills online so my online balance doesn't always match exactly what I have to spend.)

In the last 15 years, I have used a credit or debit card to pay for my gas every single time. I have never worried about someone accusing me of not paying for gas. That has never and will never cross my mind again after this thread. The only time I have ever kept the receipts was in high school my parents would reimburse me for all but one tank a month of gas. So I kept the receipts so I would get paid back.

No never. It's part of how I keep paper clutter out of my life. Never take any unnecessary papers. I don't take restaurant, fast food, or gas receipts. If I'm asked "do you need a receipt" for anything, my answer is always no. Me too. I will look at the receipt and make sure it matches the pump or the receipt I signed, but on my way out, I tear it up and throw it in the trash. Too much paper in my life.

At one time, the local gas station's charges were notoriously slow to show up on my online statement. But now they show up right away, so I don't feel I have any need for a paper receipt. It would get shoved into a pocket or a glove box or whatnot and then sit around or be moved around until it was finally thrown away. And if I did need it for some reason, I'd be sifting through dozens in a few different locations trying to find it. So now I happily say "no receipt" and no longer find gas receipts all over.

I only get the receipt when I get a car wash, as the code is printed on the bottom of the receipt. When I get home, the receipt goes in the garbage can that's in the garage so the paper doesn't even come in the house.

I do, because that receipt is your proof of purchase. If there is ever a problem with someone else driving off without paying for their gas and they're driving a car similar to yours, you have the time stamped receipt to prove YOU paid. You could go online and pull up your bank or cc transactions and prove that in seconds.

always- I get receipts for everything. I just always have. And also because my boyfriend regularly balances our checking account, and verifies all our credit card accounts, using Quicken, to.the.PENNY.

I always do. But it's because I pay with a credit card, so I always keep those receipts to check them with the statement if there is something that doesn't look right. But I would love to just shred them as I get home to get rid of clutter.
If I was paying cash I would not get the receipt.

People keep referencing "starements". I don't get those, either.
More unnecessary paper.
Just check it instantly online. Done.

statement are also available online, and they get reconciled against our accounts once or twice a month. Neither of us have time enough to do it more often than that. Thus, the saving receipts till there's time to do it; after that, they get shredded.

I do, but only to ensure that the transaction is complete. I have heard of pumps that have been hacked to continue dispensing gas and is charged to the last credit card swiped.

I fuel up at a cardlock so the receipt just has litres and other info no price. All info including price will be on the bill so I don't bother with the receipt.

I do, because that receipt is your proof of purchase. If there is ever a problem with someone else driving off without paying for their gas and they're driving a car similar to yours, you have the time stamped receipt to prove YOU paid. You can't pump gas before you pay here, so that's not an issue. Same here. You can't pump before you pay. So no, I never get a receipt.

Gas is prepaid here too. I never get a receipt unless I'm getting a car wash and need the code. I do always stand there until the pump resets back to the welcome screen. Not sure it matters any but at least I know my sale is complete and the pump is ready for the next person.

I haven't for many years and my answer is always no when I'm asked if I want a receipt. I'm another one who doesn't get statements, I just check my account daily.
Years ago, though, when my 18 yr old was around 6 or 7, he always wanted them so I did print them to give to him. I don't really know what he did with them, I'll probably find them in a shoebox or something.

I get one, snap a picture with my scanning app on my phone and it is automatically OCRed and saved to my Dropbox receipts folder. Then I toss the receipt. do that with all receipts.
I don’t want the clutter but errors can and do happen in processing and it’s helpful to have backup.
