Oprah is overrated...

I didn't like anything from the list this year either, I usually don't. Just means we have different tastes. On the one hand it does seem natural that she would be paid to endorse these brands but on the other hand she seems too big to even need that? I always felt like her magazine was advertising too many expensive products. I used to read her bookclub selections long long time ago, but the books recommended in her magazine don't appeal to me. But I do love her makeovers of people in the magazine.

The obese woman from This is Us said Oprah, whom she had never met, randomly invited her to dinner at her house. She showed up nervous and Oprah was so warm and inviting that she felt so at home and described it as "well she's Oprah". Meaning no surprise she knew how to make a guest comfortable.

I love Oprah's magazine covers, I know they are photo shopped but shoot if I had the money I'd have someone make me look thin in my pics too. lol

In one recent magazine Oprah showed 20 girls from South Africa having dinner outside at her house. Apparently in addition to the girls academy she built there 10 years ago, and personally funds in the millions, she also connects with them on a personal level by sending some to college in the US and invites them over often. She calls them her surrogate children, I couldn't believe it!

I thought there were some good, albeit expensive, ideas on the list. I'd manage to enjoy almost all of them if she was giving them away lol.

I think her new food line with some healthier ingredients blended in sounds interesting. I've only seen commercials and not in a store though.

I've never understood why women could bad mouth someone like Oprah. Big mad is the expression that comes to mind.

Because we don't have to like everybody and with Oprah, sometimes she comes across as being better than everybody else. But not liking her doesn't mean that there is no respect for what she has accomplished. I personally think she amazing but I am still not a fan

Well, I am not big mad at Oprah. I used to watch her all the time when I was not working. I always loved the Favorite Things shows. Bought the magazines. She just got to be too much. Too over the top and cartoonish in how she presented some things. She was just everywhere all of a sudden. She may not be this way at all but she acted as an expert in whatever was being discussed, the book being recommended, the topic of whatever.

I LOVE Oprah......as in if I could meet one celebrity of my choice it would be her!! I think she is amazing. I’m sure she has a bad side to go with her good side.......Everyone does. I just adore her!!

I love Oprah's Where Are They Now series. Yes, she can be a bit much, but then again can't we all? LOL! Oprah's has definitely done a lot of good in this world and for that I'll forgive a few of her faults.

I've never cared for Oprah. Ever. To each their own.

(I'd definitely rather have her in the white house as a tv show celebrity than the one we have now, lol.  )

I usually don't like / can't afford the things on her 'favorites' list, but her list doesn't seem as over the top as Gwyneth Paltrow's $100 plus tank top or vagina steaming craziness, at least.  And her magazine has her all over it because, well, it's her magazine. 


It's tough for me to pick just one (really crazy famous) person I'd like to meet, but if I had the chance to meet her, I'd love to-  she seems like one of those people who's well-read and knowledgeable about a TON of different things.

ETA:  to me, Oprah's attitude doesn't seem so much 'better than' but almost 'zen-like' and very grounded.  My older sister, who is a breast cancer survivor and has been a yoga instructor for 15 years, is like that.  Very deliberate, very thoughtful about what she does and says.  It's just the way she is.  Oprah reminds me of that.

I like Oprah. Watched her show quite often when it was on. 

Could it be that the self-absorbed and arrogant was more comfortable with her position and allowing her excitement to show? I like what she has done/been able to do as a result of her position. She didn't have to do any of it. And, I think it does come from a place of goodness, wanting to share what she has learned with people.

I think she works to be a better person than she was the day before and her "Oprah-ness" is the result. Instead of a know-it-all attitude, I think it's simply over-the-top helpfulness. 

Her last interview with Elie Wiesel was wonderful. She's interviewed so many interesting people. It was Oprah that introduced Maya Angelou to my world. One of my quotes to live by is a Maya Angelou quote.

I don't see any bad-mouthing in the OP...all she said was Oprah bugs her.  No insults, professional or personal.   She's allowed to have an opinion, she's even allowed to voice it.

Oprah's professional accomplishments and the lives she has touched through her philanthropic efforts will be her legacy. No ones opinion of her could change that so I'll digress.

I don't love or hate her. She's done awesome things and yet she's still real. She's been open about her struggle with weight. I don't pay attention to her favorites list because they are usually far out of my price range. If I was as successful as her, I'd splurge as well. Yet, when she lives in Malibu, decorates her home with amazing pieces and the help of an interior decorator, and has fresh flowers in almost every room, I cannot relate at all. I do like to hear about her philanthropy work.

Acknowledging that people have value aside from their appearance and weight?  I mean, it's kind of important.  They mentioned her name several times in the interview. 

I don't care more than anyone else because I'm fat, but if that's what you're implying you can just say it. It doesn't hurt my feelings. 
There are a lot worse things to be in the world than overweight.
