Yes! Though it's beginning to look as though airlines are probably going to have to stop seats reclining because diverting due to rows like this must cost a huge amount of money, what with fuel and extra landing fees etc., not to mention the rest of the passengers becoming very unhappy!!

I agree, something will have to change. The knock-on effect, let alone the costs, of these unplanned landings must be vast.

Getting ridiculous now. I agree Barbara they'll lock the mechanism if this will carry one.........what's happened to asking nicely if they can adjust it a little bit and not recline is so far.......you know in a friendly manner. Maybe that's asking too much from people to act that way That photo is silly.....who sits on a plane with their knees like that?

I hate flying for business, but try to love it when we are off on our travels. Even the business class cabin is getting a bit of aggro these days: (please don't flame me!) a couple of those poor passengers with no space believe the solution is to put their bags in the overhead bins at the front. When the flight attendant took them out and handed them back, they thought it a good idea to comment, loudly, about my looks, parentage & wallet. In that order.

I agree it's getting out of control.
Either I haven't followed the stories super closely or just haven't heard, what was done to try to diffuse the situations before landing? I have to assume something but I haven't heard about ANYthing and wonder if I'm just missing it? Surely they tried to move seats or something? It's seems absurd we've had this happen THREE times.

This is crazy. I think people need to think about red-eyes with no recline. Seriously. I will be livid if some jacknuts ruin this for everyone.
I also hope if they did get rid of recline that they would adjust the seats back one click. That "full upright position" is murder on my back for even a two hour flight. It isn't natural.
I am a little taller than average and my sister is 6ft tall. We both have never been in coach where someone reclined full back and we felt we could floss their teeth. I'm not sure what airlines people are flying to make such comments. I know delta certainly is not that way.

The people causing these flights to be delayed should have to pay any and all costs related to the diversions.
It is nothing more than incredibly selfish behavior.
They cause people to be frightened at their antics on a plane, cause people to be delayed to their end destinations, cause added expenses for the airlines and passengers.
People like that are just @$&&@$!!! Selfish!!

And I'd be okay with them being put on some type of no-fly list. It's ridiculous for so-called adults to hold entire industries hostage over their childish, out-of-control behavior.
I recline on longer flights (you better believe I do on trans-Atlantic flights... 17 hours? yes, I recline) and I routinely sit behind people who do. It's a reality of flying. And I truly do not consider it to be a problem.

It looks like the guy with his knees up has his seat reclined as much as the person in front of him. That is ridiculous.
It seems like the seats should be able to recline some without bothering the people behind it. Unless you are stuck in the very last row of the plane where the seats don't recline - that is misery.

I don't fly much and when I do it's always Jet Blue. DH and I were commenting on our last flight that the seats really don't recline very much and it seems odd that people complain about others reclining. I'm guessing that Jet Blue has different seats than these other airlines that are having so many problems.

Three flights out of however many flights probably isn't enough to create new reclining restrictions. But I agree with the general sentiment that people ought to grow up already. The idea that you would inconvenience an entire flight full of people and cause that sort of problem for the airline over seat recline issues is ridiculous.

I agree. And the article says the one woman was sleeping on the tray? Seriously, forget the fact that there is no way that is comfortable, how could you expect not to be disturbed by the person whose seat your *pillow* is connected to? Even if they simply shift in their seat, or get up to use the bathroom, you'll feel it. And what about the person next to you? It's one thing to try to climb over someone who's sleeping in their seat, but if they're hunched over the tray? They pilot should've swung the plane over the Atlantic, had the flight crew open up the door and tossed her out.

I have flown a fair bit with multiple airlines within Europe as well as to Canada and Australia.

I think it's crazy that they divert the plane to land and kick them off - that just screws things up for every other person on board.
i think they should have the police waiting at the next stop, arrest them, and put them on the no-fly list.

I've only been woken once by someone reclining in front of me - he was I've of those people who pushed it back as quickly as he could then sort of bounced on it to see if it would go further. I was glad I was snoozing and not drinking a glass of red wine! I'd rather have a recliner than a 'space invader'. Take a look at my blog to find out what I've been up to

Yeah, I sometimes sleep on the tray table too. I don't do it if I am blocking strangers, and I don't expect the person in front of me not to move/recline.

Recline if you want, but please don't dangle your hair on my side. And don't give me the stink eye when you're fully reclined and I bump you when I get up.
That said I do think some seats recline too much.

Are there airlines that have seats that recline as far as the seat in that picture do? I seriously have never encountered that. The reclining feature only goes about 2 inches back on the planes I've flown on. I would be loving life if I could recline that far...except that I'd probably get my ass kicked by the person behind me.

Yeah on the last flight I was on the lady in front of me reclined as far back as the photo showed. It was the 1st time in a really long time I had experienced a reclining seat so I tried to make the best of it. Couldn't put my lap tray down and couldn't reach my tote bag (and I was sitting in an aisle seat) so that was super annoying. I'm in the camp of removing the recline feature from all planes. For those of you who feel it's your God given right to recline do you also recline your seat in your car when your teenager with long legs is sitting behind you? If you wouldn't be rude to a family member why is it ok to be rude to a stranger?

In December, I flew with my big, almost 2-year-old toddler as a lap child. The flight was full, we were in the middle seat, so no extra space at all. The lady in front of me reclined her seat back as far as it would go for as much of the flight as she was allowed to. My toddler had about half an inch between his face and the seat in front of us! He cried and struggled (and so did I, silently, trying to keep him at least manageable, despite all the preparation I had done, toys and snacks and activities, etc. that I had brought to distract him) for most of the 6 hour flight. He actually fell asleep the second we landed, lol. It was absolutely miserable, but my goodness, I would never even consider causing such a fuss that the plane would have to land because of it! I just wanted to get to my destination as fast as possible! That is ridiculous! I am much more of a "sit and suffer in silence" type anyways. Some things aren't worth it!

And I wouldn't blame the airlines if they put them in the back row where the seats don't recline anyway.

Flying can really suck these days, but nobody should be going out of their way to make it even worse.
