well some say it is like police posting announcements of drunk driving checkpoints. they tell you ahead of time. so libby is telling ahead of time what will happen. she wants all people to be able to report crime, etc. we are statistically safer when this can happen Some probably do say that, but they're making a wrong-headed comparison if they do. The U.S. notifies people ahead of time about entering the country illegally and about consequences of committing crimes no matter how you got here. We have checkpoints at the borders, both virtual and actual. Those could be equated with DUI checkpoints. The police, unlike Schaaf, don't tell criminals how to obtain lawyers, don't let a driver go for whom a warrant shows they're wanted for serious crimes beyond the DUI, etc. -- essentially how to get away if caught.

Ah what makes you think law enforcement in sanctuary cities will let an undocumented person go if they have an outstanding warrant for a serious crime or anything else for that matter? During the Sonoma County wildfire I signed up to receive texts from the county and my city officials that includes law enforcement. I just got this text... “Advisory - Sonoma County Sheriffs searching for armed home invasion robbery suspects” Sonoma County is a sanctuary county. Do you think if the sheriff find these guys they will turn them lose if they find out they are undocumented? If you believe this then I think you may be misinformed about what the roll law enforcement in sanctuary cities plays when it comes undocumented people and crime. trump has threatened to pull ICE out of California. If he did I would still feel safe because I know my local police department will go after all criminals regardless if they are undocumented or not. I want to respect the wishes that only conservatives post on this thread but that bolded comment stopped me in my peeking. And since I live and have lived in a area that has been a sanctuary area for years I felt I should make a comment.

just for the record--
from Wikipedia:
Illegal immigration is the illegal entry of a person or a group of persons across a country's border, in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country, with the intention to remain in the country.
Illegal immigration, as well as immigration in general, is overwhelmingly upward, from a poorer to a richer country.[1] Living in another country illegally includes a variety of restrictions, as well as the risk of being detained and deported or of facing other sanctions.[2]
so IN REALITY--if a person is in our country illegally, they have already broken a law--and law enforcement should be upholding the laws of the land.

There was a feature on our local news reporting that illegal immigration is rising in Canada as illegal immigrants are moving through the US north. I’m curious how Canada will handle it as they are now getting backlogged and facing some of our issues.

They caught him, put him in jail, let him post bond, gave ICE a few minutes notice to come collect him and then let him go. This is not an isolated incident.

I was going to "like" your comment, but that is far from the truth. I AGREE with your comment though. It's getting rediculous!! eta: I live in a santuary state. Not of my doing for sure. When our so called lawmakers put the interests of illegals over the interests of the people legally in the state, it's time to get rid of all of them--which I certainly hope happens soon.

(I can never quote correctly. Sorry.)
If this item above is true I'm horrified. If an illegal immigrant is arrested for a felony why are they allowed to post bond??? They should be arrested, charged, and then held for ICE, end of story.

Within the article, the sheriff is cited as saying this should not have happened under their protocol. It did not happen as the result of any sanctuary law or desire of the local enforcement to shield this guy from deportation, as Gia seemed to imply by connecting it to our discussion. I think everyone agrees that guy should have been deported. No proposed sanctuary law that I’m aware of would have prevented his deportation.

They can apply for asylum, but right now the waiting time for a hearing is eleven years (that’s not a typo). I really don’t know how they’ll cope because wasn’t it in January that Trump said he'll end the temporary protected status for Salvadorans who fled El Salvador because of earthquakes? I seem to recall that was approximately a quarter million people(?). They’ll likely seek asylum in Canada or some will go back to their country. Similar to what happened when we ended temporary protected status for Haitians. They ended up in Canada. It must all be a strain on the Canadian taxpayer. (Lol. I Just realized I didn’t answer your question and just dumped my stream of consciousness here!)

Ah, I don’t think that, you completely misread the sentence which says the police DON’T do that. (I bolded the rest to help you out) As a veteran police dispatcher who worked in the same county as Sanctuary Seattle, I do appreciate the lesson on how law enforcement works, though.

I’m home under the weather today and have ABC on. The View came on and there was a piece about VP Pence and Joy with him saying she should apologize. She did apologize and I’m curious what it was for. Does anyone here know what she said or did?
Sorry if this is or has been talked about elsewhere on the board. I have a lot of people blocked just because I got tired of seeing so many political threads on the front page everyday!

And he did. Well, I consider that gracious of him. I think the motivation behind the apology may have been ABC because they got pummeled with emails and calls from angry viewers. Whoopi was supposedly told by ABC to do something about it. I don’t subscribe to Pence’s politics, and many things can be argued about Pence by both sides, but the one thing that is inarguable is that in these #MeToo times, he is a gentleman. Personally, I’m used to smackdowns by both parties. To me, that’s the way politics in the US plays out, unfortunately. But I do take issue with insulting religious people simply because of their religion. Now, if they use their religion to excuse or justify bad behavior or lies, that’s a different story. Pence was not doing that when he said he prays and he considers his religion to be a two-way relationship. Joy was out of line. If she had said this relating to Jews, or Muslims, I’m sure the uproar would have been immense.

I believe she has said she is agnostic. She doesn’t believe in a higher power anymore. She was raised Catholic, but says she has too many questions to believe there is a God, but she says she’s also not an Atheist (her words in a video I just watched the other day on Focus on Faith).

However, I must say the words she uses just rubs me the wrong way like no other. I've personally never found her funny and I routinely laugh at myself!
