Well, far be it from me to say, "but Obama," but the Republicans taught everyone how the opposition party can take it to maximum asshole levels during the last several of Obama's SOTUs. Was that un-American, too? Exactly, I don't care what 45 was saying, after EIGHT YEARS if disrespect towards the former president the repubs have the gall to call someone else out for acting disrespectfully? Absolute bullcrap. Many of the conservatives that I know personally truly believe that if you are poor, it is your fault. You should be able to pull yourself up by the bootstraps, work hard, and get out of poverty. That applies to all, even military. So if there are homeless veterans, the people I know would say it is their own fault and we have no obligation to house them or provide medical care. It is so weird to me that we (all of us) can be passionate about a cause until we come face to face with the messy reality of it. Veterans are a excellent example. We love to "stand with the veterans" as long as those veterans are not too homeless ... or dirty ... or mentally ill ... or as long as we can put up facebook frames and complain about the national anthem without getting our hands dirty. Let's look at this before today's world. Families lived together, multiple generations, pooled resources, child care if needed, but mostly only dad worked, but grandma was there if mom had to work too. Adult kids lived home. That changed when kids started going to colleges far away and met, fell in love with someone from far away and never moved back to even home town. So they were without extended support system far away, but mom and dad lost their long term support system at home with possible grandparents to. Living dynamics are not what they were years ago. I truthfully had/have no idea how my grandparents, who my mother and I lived with, paid for the doctors, or my mother paid. There was always someone home when I got home from school. at least one of my grandparents so my mother could work. The distance and disconnects hit our veterans too. Their support system is also far away. Veterans from Vietnam came home and hid. Many of their problems were never addressed and we(general we) didn't treat them all well either, They struggled, often unsuccessfully, and tried to move on. But then came Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and all the other names. Those Veterans have come home with many more problems. I is a good thing, hard to talk about, more men and women in battle survive some catastrophic injuries that killed so many in other wars, but with that comes extensive recoveries that most of us can never understand. My uncle did not come home from WWII, my cousin did come home from 2 tours in Vietnam. We are thankful. Sorry I went off on a tangent! ETA: sorry.......... My mother died when my DS was 7 years old, I had NO support system after that. It was 2 of us. I had to work for food and rent, there was no health ins for years. There were nights we had cheese and crackers for dinner. Like or not my DS had TV dinners, they were cheap but not so bad, when on sale 3 for a $1. There was no money to go into the bank, I drove a klunker hoping to get to work every day. My DS turned out ok, in fact great. Good job, wonderful wife and kids, fortunately she gets his pension. Yeah, government at that! Some of you had interacted with my DS, so you know he turned out GREAT! |

I don't disagree with your comment. It was a stupid thing for Trump to say. He should have just called them a**holes. And he should have called out all the AAs who sat on their asses when it was stated that unemployment among AA was at an all time low. Black live matter only when you can blast cops apparently.What the hell. SaveSaveYes!! While black unemployment may be at an “all time low” that factoid is only relevant for those who want to tout it just like that. The rest of that sentence should be— ..however, black unemployment is nearly triple that of white unemployment. |
