Oh right . he also cut funding to help with mental health issues. Who??? I know Reagan did...BIG TIME dt I was just adding onto this post Not much to discuss, his goals speak for themselves! Cut school safety Cut 18.3% from HUD Budget for housing 8.8 billion, people will be homeless... Tell people what they should eat from a box. Tell States and town THEY have to pick up his cuts from Amtack/rail service Telling states to put tolls on the interstate highways that we have already paid for..... His buddies got huge tax cuts so you pay for all of it and more! And they all fly millions of dollars worth on private jets, military and/or first class while we can't afford to go anywhere. He has already spent almost as much as other presidents use in four year to travel almost every weekend! I forgot cut Medicare he promised not to touch!!

The fact that this keeps happening over and over again is absolutely disgusting. We are failing our kids. Teachers should not have to jump in front of students to prevent them from being hit with bullets. My daughter told me there was a fire drill at her school today and there were kids in tears because they were scared that when they opened the door to the classroom and stepped outside, they would be shot and killed. It's heartbreaking. As an aside, I'd have some strong words with the administration that thought continuing with a fire drill today was a good idea. No shit. Who's bright idea was that? I got to make sure that my daughter knew what to do if an active shooter was on her campus this morning. #funtimes #sorryifIoffenededyourdelicatesensibilitieslaurenimeanlovestocolorjknotsorry

Today, I have a broken heart. Today, I am grieving. Something has to change, today
Senator Cruz Twitter: Heidi and my prayers are with the victims and families of those affected by today's senseless shooting in Florida. As always, we are grateful to the first responders who answered the call for help and quickly apprehended the attacker. From the NY Daily News: Cruz received $41,805 in campaign donations from gun rights groups during the 2015-2016 campaign cycle and received an "A+" grade from the NRA. When I called Senator Cruz's office today. The person denied he took campaign contributions. I explained I have a broken heart, I am grieving for the losses of each person in this and the previous mass shootings. My work production has taken a HUGE drop and I have been on the verge of tears all day. I also asked that he not accept another donation from pro gun rights groups. I begged him to do something to change. I am certainly angry, but I feel others can express their anger better. Beto O'Rourke took $0 from the NRA or any pro-gun groups, as far as I can tell with an internet search. Let's shuffle ol' Ted into retirement this fall, shall we? 1) Can't campaign contributions be proven? 2) From what I understand Beto is not taking PAC money from any group.

Liz Peek: After Florida shooting, it's time for conservatives to stand against mass murder FLORIDA SCHOOL SHOOTING Feb 15, 2018 | Fox News John Fredericks, host of a widely followed conservative radio show, did something brave Thursday. He questioned, on air, whether people should have access to rapid-fire guns.Fredericks acknowledged that his call for increased regulation was bound to anger many of his listeners. He described himself as a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment to the Constitution and of the National Rifle Association, but voiced his concerns about high-powered weapons in the wake of the horrific shootings at a high school in Parkland, Florida. He also described himself as a parent, who does not want to see more tragedies take place in our country’s schools. ** Will others now follow Fredericks in advocating commonsense restrictions on the availability of the kinds of guns that facilitate mass murder? Or will everyone on the left and right scurry to their respective corners, paralyzing debate and reforms that might reduce the number of senseless tragedies this nation endures? ** It is time for an honest conversation about gun control. We all know that if rapid-fire weapons had not been involved in the shootings in Las Vegas (58 dead), or Orlando (49 dead), or Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland (17 dead), fewer people would have died. That is a fact. That fact gets obscured by quibbling over definitions. Fully automatic weapons are illegal, but semi-automatic guns are available. They can fire almost as quickly, use similar ammunition and do just as much damage. We all know the post-slaughter playbook. Sadly, we’ve had plenty of occasions to etch the template. ** One argument against restricting such sales stems from concerns that prohibiting any type of weapon is a violation of the Second Amendment. But that is patently false. Machine gun sales are illegal, so the precedent exists for restrictions.Others worry that restricting ownership of some types of guns is a slippery slope. They say further limitations will follow, which is why gun sales typically surge after a mass shooting. More at link: www.foxnews.com/opinion/2018/02/15/liz-peek-after-florida-shooting-its-time-for-conservatives-to-stand-against-mass-murder.htmlI don't know this guy, maybe other consider him a kook.. At least I think he is talking some sense right now!

I'm a high school teacher. All I can say is that if you're a politician who offers your "thoughts and prayers" and that's not accompanied by policy change around gun control/laws, you can FUCK RIGHT OFF. I am also a high school teacher. We own guns (just thought I would throw that out there). The next asshole who says that we should arm (or heavily arm) our teachers should be throat punched. ASK some teachers if we want to be armed because I have ZERO desire to carry a gun at school. I'd venture a guess that many, if not most feel the same way. --brought about by the assholes on my fb with the stupid ass memes and their defense of guns and finger pointing at everything else, including mental health which they are so happy to have defunded.

Do they get a say in this or will it be part of their work/job description?

They don’t even want to fund schools so we can buy supplies like PAPER, but they think we should buy guns and arm ourselves?
Fuck off.

Local to ya, they are talking about teacher gun training (making it available for school teachers and admin)—some business has s location set up like classrooms and they set up the training like real tactical real time shooter in the building.
I caught the tail end of the story on the news (Fox news too!)
They also has a call in where people could say whatever they wanted about the Florida tragedy, and there were quite a few who were raging on about the real issue not being guns, but bratty, kids and lack of parenting. (Also read this on my Facebook feed—it’s not guns it’s bad parenting)

As someone that lives in another country, reading through this thread has shocked me. I'm dumbfounded that there are people here saying it's not about gun control. Of course it is. And if you don't actively try it, how can you make those comments. Continuing to make excuses and do nothing means that this is just going to continue as it is. Is this what you want for your children? I've just read that this is the 18th school shooting this year. In what world is that considered ok? I'm heartened to see so many that feel it's time to do something but the excuses of others are ridiculous. No it won't stop illegal gun sales, but i'd put money on the fact that not too many teenagers know where to go to buy an illegal weapon. They certainly don't here. And these school shootings are taking place with legal weapons. I have just read a comment from a Facebook friend that its time that gun carrying security were placed in all schools. This shouldn't be necessary. Introducing more guns to a situation that has a gun problem is the most ridiculous thing I've heard.
I'm sorry if my comments are taken as harsh to some, but this just makes me so angry. It's not acceptable and you need to do something about gun control. I'm glad I live in a country that has strict gun control and that my children can be confident that they are safe from this at school. They are prepared in case it does happen. But it's certainly a hell of a lot less likely.

John Pavlovitz—
Donald Trump and the GOP own this carnage.
They manufacture it. The lobby for it. They legislate it. They nurture it.
They cannot be reasoned with. They will not admit culpability. They are not moved by the death of children. They are devoid of compassion or decency.
For the love of our kids, vote them all out.

I cannot understand how anyone could see this as a good thing.

Let’s talk about school safety.
Our doors are locked throughout the school day. You can enter through the front office, but have to sign in and go through our background check system, first.
There’s no way that will EVER stop anyone who really wants in. They could simply shoot the glass out and open the doors from the inside. Heck, some teenage vandals got in this summer by climbing on the roof and breaking a skylight in. They could enter the office and shoot the 2 middle aged women behind the desk and hit the buzzer to open the doors to the school...they’re not hard to find. You might THINK your kids’ school is safe, but you’re just kidding yourself.

You can come in the front and the two down one hall. You can get into my building (on my locked at night) or the modulars or the 3 other structures. We can't lock down currently...im sure we'd figure out how to lock down if a shooting happened near us. I do wonder about the schools that have outside passing areas and what they do (like the one on 90210)

Unless we're planning to outfit our schools like maximum security prisons, complete with armed guards and razor wire, "thoughts and prayers" are probably more effective than what passes for school security.

There's no way to secure them. Doors have to be left unlocked so kids can get back in the main building. It's a mess.
