Posted on FB by my Republican, former Marine husband. I ❤️ him so much! Now if I can just get him to vote for the person who will do something different.

It should make everyone angry, but some people care more about their hobbies than the lives of children. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ That’s America for you. You care more about restricting people's right to self defense than you do about the hundreds of thousands of lives that will be lost when you do so. And that should make everyone angry. See how that works? Pure, unadulterated rhetoric designed to demonize people that want the same thing you do, but disagree with your solution. Its not helpful, it's meaningless. There is a peanut butter commercial running right now. This little boy asks his mom if he can have a peanut butter sandwich. The mom says yes and then the little boy asks if his imaginary friend can have one as well. So the mom makes two sandwiches, one for the little boy and one for the imaginary friend. But before she puts the sandwich on the table she takes a bit. Of course the little boy thinks his imaginary friend took the bit. It’s cute. The vast majority of people who claim they need guns for protection and/or the government is coming to take away their guns are the little boy. The mom who takes a bite out of the sandwich is the NRA feeding the “imaginary “ belief the guns are needed for protection or because “they’re coming to take away my guns.” The threat guns present to our schools. Churches, concert venues, shopping centers, & movie theaters is real as history has proven over and over again. The threat presented by the folks I described with the peanut butter commercial is imaginary but yet these people dictate what we ,as a country, can do about the real threats facing our citizens and that needs to change.

I would love to see the families of victims who meet trump to turn their back on him in silence. not to give him a photo op like he actually cares or is doing anything. don't shake his hand, don't engage with him.. just turn your back.

<<< I too have seen this meme pop up everywhere. While I get what it is trying to say, the first thing that popped into my head was the doctor oath "first, do no harm" and I wouldn't think that in relation to weapons. Apples and oranges, to me. I disagree. It's the same exact thing. You want to limit a right you don't agree with. What's to stop someone else from doing the same thing to a right THEY don't agree with, but YOU think is important? No, it's not that I want to limit a right I don't agree with. I just think times change and perhaps way back when that was written they couldn't foresee what was coming. The second amendment although untouched directly has changed over time. Right it bear "arms". By definition arms means weapons and armor yet we have laws and limits to that. Not to mention the rights when written were only applicable to white men. If the right to bear arms were to form a militia against the government, I'm afraid that ship has sailed. No way in hell we'd stand a chance against huge military power. And tiny aka drones etc

I was in tears last night and this morning watching mothers talk about losing their kids, and really hope that Trump has heard them pleading to him to make a difference. I hope that, even if it is motivated by his ego, that he can decide to make a difference in this area.

I'm going to start screaming if I see any more posts on Facebook that say we need to bring God and the 10 Commandments back into schools. Yes, that will just solve everything. And which God are we going to worship in schools? News flash: not everyone is Christian! Are these same people down with others praying to Allah, Moses, Buddha or is only Jesus allowed? What about atheists? Should they be banned from schools? I believe in God but I also believe God helps those who help themselves. That's always their go-to. In spite of the fact that N. Europe is WAY more secular than the US and yet, amazingly, manages to live out their godless existences w/o mass-shooting each other every month.

There is a very smart and articulate young man being interviewed on NPR right now. He was in the school, on his way to get his special needs brother from class, when the shots rang out. He’s a junior. His description of huddling with 20 special needs students in a locked classroom during the ordeal has me in tears again.
He says his generation is going to fix this. They’re going to vote out politicians who take money from the gun lobby. They’re going to keep military grade weapons out of the hands of the mentally ill. They’re going to say enough.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could start the process for him before he’s able to vote for the first time, in 2020.

Ban Muslims = great idea! Ban guns = outrageous! I do not understand the thinking of our "leadership." In quotes because we have no such thing in this situation. I emailed my elected officials and asked them specifically to be brave and lead from the front on this issue. Begged them in fact.

The FBI was not alone with errors.............. Sheriff says office got 20 calls about suspected school shooter in recent yearsBY JOHN BOWDEN - 02/16/18 05:45 PM EST .@browardsheriff on Florida school shooting: "We have uncovered at the Broward Sheriff's Office that we've had approximately 20 calls for service over the last few years regarding the [accused] killer." pic.twitter.com/01EpLWIWvE — Fox News (@foxnews) February 16, 2018 A sheriff said Friday that his office received around 20 calls about Nikolas Cruz, the 19-year-old suspect in this week's shooting at a Florida high school that left 17 people dead and wounded more than a dozen others. Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told reporters that his office had uncovered "approximately 20" 911 calls relating to Cruz over the last few years, and that his office would investigate how those calls were handled.
"We have uncovered at the Broward Sheriff's Office that we've had approximately 20 calls for service over the last few years regarding the killer," Israel said. "Every one of these calls for service will be looked at and scrutinized.""If we find out, like in any investigation, that one of our deputies or call-takers could have done something better or was remiss, I'll handle it accordingly," he added. I think his generation, our children and teens of today, could very possibly be what finally does spur on action. Over the years many, many adults have tried to find solution(s) to this problem. Is anyone listening to the kids? They likely have some great ideas. These are their peers doing these things, and I think they are an incredible resource to use if we want to know 'what's really going on' in our schools and with teenage life these days. I am inspired that so many have become vocal over this, demanding change. I hope that continues, that a whole 'movement' bands together; one consisting of all of these future voters! I have LOTS of faith in our younger generation. There are bad apples for sure, but the good, kind, strong ones shine brightly. Why can't someone create a program to go around talking to panels of teens and HEAR them and consider their concerns, their outlook, their ideas for solutions. Maybe we just haven't been asking the right people?

My thoughts & prayers are with the survivors, the families of the deceased victims, the shooter & others like him who are plotting violence right now for whatever reason, & our country. IMHO it is a complex problem that requires a multi-step solution; many adults failed those students. Until our society stops the useless & distracting partisan finger pointing, rejects yellow journalism, starts caring as much about others as themselves, & finds/supports candidates with these same values, neither this nor other serious issues plaguing our nation will be addressed.

Just for the record, it was repeating the same exact, word for word language used by the pea being responded to. The one who's post was being patronizing and ridiculing comments made by by those who don’t agree with them. But selective outrage, once again. Right......same meaning, same context, the context, you were still demeaning, patronizing another pea, but you’ll deny it, claim to be a victim, say that you’re being shut down and silenced and blah-blah-blah-bullshit—more words, more semantics—more deflecting—blah-blah-blah more lies, more poor me—-more liberals are meanies...your rhetoric is so stale that dry toast won’t touch it. I’m glad to see that even the conservative side is calling you out on your crap. Have a lovely evening.

I looked up the numbers today...
In 2018 more lives have been lost in schools due to mass shootings than police officers.
Really? Seriously? I don’t care any longer what the issue is. I want it fixed. I am a teacher. I don’t want to be a hero. I don’t want to spend time trying to figure out where to hide children in my classroom, what furniture could become a shield, and how to look my 23 babies in the eye and tell them to practice hiding from gun shots.
We practice hiding from gun shots.
Let that sink in. We practice hiding from gun shots because it is a real possibility.
Your children, my children, cower in corners in practice. They ask questions I can’t answer. They ask questions I don’t want to answer.
We are asked to report things that seem off. We make reports. They are ignored.
We are asking children to turn a blind eye each day. Report things that scare you. See something, say something. Nothing happens. They get discouraged and stop reporting. Accepting the unacceptable has become common.
It’s broken. We all know it.
They deserve better!

You think that Trump is a tyrnnical dictator AND you think it's a good idea to get rid of the protection we have against tyranny? And you think if you're wrong about that being the solution, then the dictator will just let everyone have their guns back? Guns people have in their houses are no protection against tyranny when the government has drones, tanks and bombers. That's just foolish rhetoric. Our protection against tyranny is in staying informed and voting - something we do at an alarmingly low rate. If a dictator takes over, it will be because too few people voted, not because they didn't have guns. Yes, currently voting, laws, checks and balances protect us from tyranny. And despite the rhetoric that Trump is a rising Hitler spouted here damn near everyday, Im pretty confident that we're not going to see that claim come to pass. BUT the second IS our last defense against a tyrannical government. That's not rhetoric. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of asymmetric warfare. Don't think a line of citizens facing a line of tanks, that's not how it would work. Citizens don't have tanks, drones and bombers, but they do outgun the government thanks to the second. If all else failed and the government became tyrannical it would trigger an insurgency larger than any in modern times. It'd be made up of a lot military and they know what to do with those tanks, drones and bombers once they capture them and more. Asymmetrical warfare, or guerilla warfare. Of course it's all hypothetical and all sounds so far fetched in this day and age and I'm sure it will never come to pass, but that IS one of the reasons the second amendment was created. As a last defense against tyranny.

Florida students protest Trump, NRABY MORGAN GSTALTER - 02/16/18 01:41 PM EST Dozens of students in Parkland, Fla., are protesting President Trump’s gun policies and the National Rifle Association ahead of Trump's visit to the high school that was the site of this week's deadly mass shooting. About 30 students began protesting around 8 a.m. Friday at a nearby high school ahead of Trump’s visit to Parkland, according to WSVN. Trump has plans to meet with families and local officials two days after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that killed 17 people. The vice mayor of Broward County called the visit “absolutely absurd” considering Trump's opposition to stricter gun laws. Students were also protesting Republican lawmakers who support the National Rifle Association, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who warned against making assumptions about the cause of the shooting. "I think it's important to know all of that before you jump to conclusions that there was some law that we could have passed that would have prevented it. And there may be, but shouldn't we at least know the facts?" Rubio said on Fox News. Trump canceled his scheduled trip to Orlando on Thursday to tout his infrastructure plan in the wake of the shooting. He will spend the rest of the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach. thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/374241-florida-students-protest-trump-nra

"America needs to recover its outrage. It needs to recover its compassionate heart. It needs to recover its soul. We need to treasure the lives of high school students more than we treasure handguns. We need to stop clinging to antiquated words about “well-armed Militias,” while our hallways and shopping malls and concerts are becoming war zones. We need to stop making excuses why we have the highest rates of gun violence in developed nations. " johnpavlovitz.com/2018/01/27/children-came-home-week/

4. It isn't the right to bear weapons, or the right to a specific part of it. It is right to bear arms. Oh FFS @mytnice it means the same thing. To bear arms is a centuries old saying meaning to possess or carry a weapon. The saying has been in use long before the constitution of the USA was even thought of. Stop being constantly so darn pedantic about everything anyone posts all the while.
