In Nov 2016, I joined Weight Watchers. I've since lost 70 pounds and a great deal of hair. I've been to the doctor and dermatologist and had all the conversations and tests regarding the cause. Their opinion is that it's my body's way of dealing with the "stress" of losing weight. I've moved into maintenance mode since September and while I'm not gaining weight, my hair isn't rebounding either...it's still thinning. I haven't had a hair cut since June 2017. I used to go every 4-5 weeks. A few months ago there was a thread about hair loss and another pea mentioned wearing a wig. That got me started on a research journey...extensions, wigs and toppers oh my. I don't think I have enough hair to cover extensions and worry that they would just fall out with my hair. But, I still have a bit of hair and didn't feel ready for a wig. So, I ended up with a topper. I went to a local wig shop and purchased one. I decided to also color my hair back to natural (I had gotten quite blonde from highlights and thinning made it appear even blonder). I think I'm half-way hoping folks who notice my new hair will attribute it to the color rather than the topper. I've been wearing the topper for a week. Today is the first day I'll see someone who will recognize that something is different. I'm a huge bundle of nerves. I thought I would share some of my before and after photos for anyone else who might be dealing with and considering the same thing. Here are a couple photos...before WW, two weeks ago and two days ago. Not sure why that middle one came over sideways...but you can see how paper thin my hair had become. For anyone else considering a topper, I highly recommend Corner of Hope and Mane...both on YouTube and her blog. She is a wealth of information. Happy to answer any questions I can too.

Thanks for posting this. I’ve suffered significant hair loss since being diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease 2010. I have been exploring different options lately as it’s not getting any better and may be getting worse. I struggle between my vanity and wanting a low maintenance life. Will check out your resource.
ETA: I am on my phone and couldn’t see the photos very well. It does look really natural and you look great.

You look fantastic! Thank you for sharing - I am getting close to needing this. I have multiple health reasons it could be happening (thyroid, digestive) but I look at my mom who has worn a wig for the last 20 years and realize it's most likely hereditary and probably not worth the time or expense pursuing other solutions at my age (57). The hair color is very flattering --your smile says it all

I would not have ever guessed you were wearing a topper. You look wonderful. My aunt lost a considerable amount of hair once when she lost weight, but in her case the doctor blamed the lack of protein in her new diet.

I like the new darker color. I would never know you are wearing a topper. I need to look into a wig because my hair is growing back from chemo but the top is not coming back well at all.

I really like the new hair colour, and the topper looks great. Very natural.
Is it comfortable to wear?

cmpeter, I love your new color, and your hair looks really cute! I'm not familiar with toppers, so I'll have to find out about those. I bought a wig about 6 weeks ago; I need to get photos up on here to show you all. I really like it. I don't wear it most days, particularly since I've been so sick the last 2 weeks, but I love having the option. It's so hard losing hair, and it is so much a part of our identity as women. Congratulations on your weight loss; it doesn't seem fair that you had to lose your hair too, though. BUT, you look great!

I really like the darker color.
I've lost about the same amount and am having the same issues. There's hair in my shower, hair all over my clothes, hair on the floor - I'm sure I don't have to tell you. I also noticed that my nails and hair weren't growing at the same pace as usual, but I do think that in the last month, it has picked up and I'm seeing a lot of new growth. I got a good cut today and my stylist wasn't concerned at all so I'm feeling confident that it will rebound (as I'm sure yours will too). Thanks for the rec on the website - I'll check that out because if I lose more I may want to look into it down the road. (I've found that silver/gray is a really hard color to match because they make wigs and extensions way too shiny in that color so maybe I'll find some better resources.)

I’m sure the stress of losing hair didn’t help the situation either but you look so pretty with dark hair - it suits you so much! Thanks for telling us your story 🙂

It looks great! I’m on my iPad and when I tapped on each picture it made it larger. And it looked very natural in the most recent pick.
My hair actually looks like your middle “before”picture. Fine, thin and not much of it. I’m a senior citizen with health issues. Add that to my age and “poof” - sad, sorry looking hair. I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that I have thin hair. I may check into a “topper” if I ever have a special occasion. I love the way this community shares and supports its members.

You are super gorgeous! Congratulations on your weight loss and your hair looks amazing.
I wanted to also say thank you for posting about a sensitive topic that I know will help others. I have age related thinning, and I had no idea something like a topper existed. Is it real or synthetic hair?

Nice photo! I have a soft spot for women who have significant hair loss. It just seems so much more unfair than when it happens to men. So glad you found a solution and I hope it's only needed temporarily, cmpeter.

Never in a million years would I guess that's not all your hair. You look amazing. The new color is perfect for you.
Thank you for being brave and posting your story. I'm losing my hair too. It's something that really bothers me. It helps to know there are options and others are experiencing it too.
