"We are tethered to a buffoon. He rages and veers, spreading ugliness, like an oil slick smothering everything in its viscous mantle. He’s about to bomb Syria. He’s not about to bomb Syria. His attention span is nonexistent. He attacks the foundations of our Republic: an independent judiciary, a free press, truth itself. His cabinet looks terrorized, the way Saddam Hussein’s once did. President Donald Trump is dangerous. The main things mitigating the danger are his incompetence and cowardice. We live in a time that teaches how outrage can turn to a shrug, how the unthinkable repeated over and over can induce moral numbness, how a madman’s manic certainties can overwhelm reason. He is very busy; people resist; he opens another front; people shake their heads. It’s hard to remember on Friday what happened on Monday. Trump’s is the unbearable lightness of the charlatan." www.nytimes.com/2018/04/13/opinion/trump-hitler-europe.html

linkIt’s bad enough the current Federal Government and US companies want to trash this country. And now they are going to make deals with foreigners to trash our country as well? From Salon.... “How a Chilean billionaire could poison a Minnesota wilderness”Trump’s Interior Department is reinstating two 1966 leases, written before today’s federal environmental laws, that could allow a Chilean mining company to build a giant copper-and-nickel mine adjacent to the Boundary Waters wilderness area in northern Minnesota. The mining company is controlled by Andrónico Luksic, whose family controls a mining, banking and industrial empire that Forbes estimates is valued at $13.1 billion. Luksic also dabbles in Washington, D.C., residential real estate and has a business relationship with the Trump family. He is First Son-in-Law Jared Kushner’s and First Daughter Ivanka Trump’s landlord. The Boundary Waters is a 1.1 million-acre wilderness beloved by canoeists and hikers in the Superior National Forest along Minnesota’s border with Canada. Mining in the area could result in acid damage that can last for centuries. “There’s a reason that the Boundary Waters is one of the most visited wilderness areas in America: It’s an incredible place,” Sally Jewell, then the Interior Department secretary, said in 2016. Jorjani traced the history of the land, beginning with an interest in the land in 1952 from International Nickel Company Inc., and various meetings, phone calls, memos and other documents before concluding that the Obama administration erred and “improperly interpreted the leases.” A study published in the Journal of Hydrology in 2016 found that polluted water from mining near the Boundary Waters could potentially affect up to 2.3 million acres of American and Canadian public lands. More than 74,000 people urged the Forest Service in 2016 not to renew the leases. Becky Rom, the head of the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters, keeps a copy of the federal Wilderness Act of 1964, signed by former President Lyndon Johnson which helped create federally designated wilderness areas. “Every generation has a responsibility,” said Rom whose father helped fight to create the Boundary Waters. “It’s not something I could walk away from.” Once again, elections have consequences. 🚫 #MAGA How can anyone defend this kind of action? And yet, I don't doubt the country (and the pea board) is full of people who will go their graves explaining why it was The Right Thing to Do.

Anybody else notice that the huge Wayne LaPieree quote displayed at this NRA event says this: "The NRA's five million members are history's most committed, most elite defenders of freedom." I don't know where to start. HISTORY'S MOST? Is it paying dues to the NRA that puts you in a category that eclipses all others who sacrificed life or limb in all the desperate, hard fought struggles for freedom throughout history? Or is it fighting tooth and nail for unfettered access to guns that carves out one's deserved place in all of history? MOST COMMITTED? How arrogant that their unbending interpretation of - and rabid rhetoric and lobbying for - a constitutional right that doesn't exist in most of the world has been imbued with such singular dedication ... such nobility of purpose. MOST ELITE? That bad word? That sneering insult that is regularly lobbed against experts, scientists, academics, and - oddly - all liberals? "Elite" was what first jumped out at me, but that whole quote wins doozy of the year... no, of all history. H.I.S.T.O.R.Y. Damn elitists.

This is a public rant from a person who should not be president and yet he is.
“Unbelievably, James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in the handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe. In other words, he was making decisions based on the fact that he thought she was going to win, and he wanted a job. Slimeball!”
“The big questions in Comey’s badly reviewed book aren’t answered like, how come he gave up Classified Information (jail), why did he lie to Congress (jail), why did the DNC refuse to give Server to the FBI (why didn’t they TAKE it), why the phony memos, McCabe’s $700,000 & more?”
“Comey throws AG Lynch “under the bus!” Why can’t we all find out what happened on the tarmac in the back of the plane with Wild Bill and Lynch? Was she promised a Supreme Court seat, or AG, in order to lay off Hillary. No golf and grandkids talk (give us all a break)!”
“The Syrian raid was so perfectly carried out, with such precision, that the only way the Fake News Media could demean was by my use of the term “Mission Accomplished.” I knew they would seize on this but felt it is such a great Military term, it should be brought back. Use often!”
”I never asked Comey for Personal Loyalty. I hardly even knew this guy. Just another of his many lies. His “memos” are self serving and FAKE!” Slippery James Comey, a man who always ends up badly and out of whack (he is not smart!), will go down as the WORST FBI Director in history, by far!”
“Attorney Client privilege is now a thing of the past. I have many (too many!) lawyers and they are probably wondering when their offices, and even homes, are going to be raided with everything, including their phones and computers, taken. All lawyers are deflated and concerned!”
These tweets are in order. Not only is trump an embarrassment to the country, he is just plain nuts.

This is too funny for words... Sarah Sanders.... “Last night the President put our adversaries on notice: when he draws a red line he enforces it. (Inside the Situation Room as President is briefed on Syria - Official WH photos by Shealah Craighead)” Which prompted this response from Walter Shaub... “Fascinating tweet in which Sarah Sanders reveals that Mike Pence was simultaneously in Peru and Washington. If this new capability doesn’t scare our enemies, nothing will. #QuantumEntanglementMike” So I looked at the picture Sanders attached to her tweet. Sure enough there was Pence. Poor tiny hands, trying so hard to get his own version of the iconic situation room picture with President Obama and Hillary. And his own press secretary blew it. Couldn't of happened to a more deserving man. 😀 Sorry don’t know how to bring the picture over here. Here ya go..

Sorry don’t know how to bring the picture over here. I dont have twitter, but I go to posted tweets.. I know strange.. but I have copied a link of a tweeted picture and have sometimes been able to post the picture here. “The Syrian raid was so perfectly carried out, with such precision, that the only way the Fake News Media could demean was by my use of the term “Mission Accomplished.” I knew they would seize on this but felt it is such a great Military term, it should be brought back. Use often!” He should ask George W about that one!! Standing on the carriers deck saying "Mission Accomplished" How many years later and we are still over in the Middle East! ** "Mission. Accomplished. So, let's break this down. You might remember those two words emblazoned on a massive red, white and blue banner that hung behind the last Republican president -- George W. Bush -- as he spoke aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln on May 1, 2003. Bush's speech that day was regarded as a marker of the end of "major combat operations" in Iraq after just over a month of fighting. As the war in Iraq dragged on for years to come and American casualties piled up, the "Mission Accomplished" banner became a punch line, a telling indication of the Bush administration's gross underestimation of the challenge posed by the conflict. Years later, as he was preparing to leave office, Bush acknowledged the banner was a mistake." www.cnn.com/2018/04/14/politics/donald-trump-mission-accomplished/index.html

The Hill...
“U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley defended U.S. strikes on Syria in the wake of the country's chemical weapon attack, saying on Sunday a similar chemical attack could happen in the U.S. if precautions are not taken.
"This very easily could happen in the United States if we're not smart, and if we're not conscious of what's happening," Haley told Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday."
"We have to be very conscious of the fact that we cannot allow even the smallest use of chemical weapons. That's why you saw the president strike this past weekend, that's why you saw him expel sixty Russian spies after the attack in Salisbury," she said.
Haley's comments come days after the U.S., in partnership with France and the U.K., launched over 100 missiles at three targets in Syria.”
Gee where have I heard this argument before? Oh yes Bush and the WMD. And we all know how well that worked out.

From the Hill...
“The latest Employment Situation report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows weekly employee earnings have grown $75 since tax reform passed, well short of the $4,000 to $9,000 annual increases projected by President Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).
During the three months following passage of the tax bill, the average American saw a $6.21 increase in average weekly earnings. Assuming 12 weeks of work during the three months following passage of the corporate tax cuts, this equates to a $75 increase.
Assuming a full 52 weeks of work, the $6.21 increase in weekly earnings would result in a $323 annual increase, nowhere near the minimum $4,000 promised and $9,000 potential annual increases projected by President Trump and Speaker Ryan if significant cuts were made to corporate tax rates.
Unless something drastically changes, it seems that Americans are going to have to settle for much less than the $4,000 to $9,000 projected wage increases. An extra $322 a year isn't going to do much to pay down the $1 trillion in additional debt they are projected to take on as a result of the tax cuts.”
Anyone surprised by this bit of news?

In Peru, Pence defends Syrian strike to Latin America alliesMike Pence,Martin Vizcarra April 14, 2018 5:30PM Thousands of miles from home, Vice President Mike Pence was thrust into a new, more immediate, role on the world stage Saturday: explaining President Donald Trump's military strike in Syria to a summit of Latin America leaders. Hours after Trump hailed the missile strike targeting the Syria's suspected chemical weapons — tweeting, "Mission Accomplished!" — Pence defended the president while building support among U.S. allies for the joint strikes with Britain and France. "The objective of the mission the commander in chief gave our military forces and our allies was completely accomplished — with swift professionalism," Pence told reporters, noting there were "no reported civilian casualties." Later, speaking in a cavernous hall of world leaders at the Summit of the Americas, Pence expressed gratitude to Canada, Colombia and other nations that had voiced support for the strike and urged "every nation in this hemisphere of freedom" to support the military action. What makes you so sure that Russia won't use them on the streets of the US next time they want to get rid of someone? linkWhat was accomplished by the missle strike? Especially after trump announced to Syria what he was planning. Did it actually take out Syria’s ability to make these chemicals? Highly unlikely. Will it stop him from using them again? Probably not. Then what? Invade Syria? And then what? That question was never answered when the decision was made to invade Iraq. Years ago when it was being debated in this country about invading Iraq, a radio talk show guy by the name of Gene Burns on KGO Talk Radio said the United States should only commit our military when the situation is a direct threat to this country. And he is right. There is no direct threat to this country when Syria uses chemical weapons on their citizens just like there was no direct threat to this country from Iraq and WMD. But if the decision to intervene is made then they had better have the answer to the question “then what.” The article linked is a series of interview that President Obama gave a reporter for The Atlantic that was originally published in 2016. In it the President talks about his decision not to strike Syria after the “red line” was crossed. I personally agree with what he felt. He talks about why an attack on Syria wouldn’t have changed much. It’s really long but IMO well worth the read. This country has plenty of real threats “in house” that need to be dealt with without worrying about Russia popping in and using chemical weapons on someone on our streets”. Could it happen the way it did in the UK? I suppose so but I’m more concerned with nut cases walking the halls of our schools shooting kids with an AK-15 then the use of chemical weapons on our streets by the Russians. After Sandy Hook an UK Writer made the comment “The United States biggest threat is not terrorists because it’s at war with itself”. I believe there is a lot of truth in that statement. And the real threat from Russia is the propaganda war on social media with bots they are waging to widen the divide that’s already here. Which trump doesn’t seem to be to concerned about. Because dealing with that issue isn’t as much fun as lopping “shiny smart “ missiles at another country.

As far as reports to date go, I understand they were successful in doing what they set out to do - to destroy the storage buildings and the laboratories manufacturing the weapons. One can not compare the invasion of Iraq to what they set out to do over the week-end.Destroying specific targets and invading a country are very different IMO. I have no idea if this will stop them, I don't have that information but they've had enough warning to not use chemical weapons, I can see no other way to deal with it except destroy both the storage and laboratories that are know to the intelligence community of all three countries. Hopefully it will also be a warning to them and to other countries that are thinking of doing the same thing that the use of chemical weapons will not be tolerated. We'll have to disagree on this.

linkWhat was accomplished by the missle strike? Especially after trump announced to Syria what he was planning. Did it actually take out Syria’s ability to make these chemicals? Highly unlikely. Will it stop him from using them again? Probably not. Then what? Invade Syria? And then what? That question was never answered when the decision was made to invade Iraq. You don’t think anything of valued was moved from these sites prior to the beginning of the attack once trump blabbed it was happening? “General Dunford detailed in the briefing tonight the first target was a scientific research center in the greater Damascus area, specifically for testing chemical and biological warfare. The second was chemical weapon storage facility west of Homs, Syria, Dunford added "this was the primary location of Syrian sarin...production equipment." The third target was in the vicinity Homs, and contained a chemical weapons equipment storage facility and was an important Syrian command post.” Assad isn’t stupid and neither is Putin. My guess is most of the intended target was long gone before the first missle flew. So now the questions are “what’s next” and ”then what”? A single attack could morph into what? An invasion with the intent of regime change? Taking on Russia and Iran in the process? IMO unless you have answers for those questions no matter how righteous the reasoning is, it will not end well for that country or for the countries trying to do the right thing. History has taught us that over and over again. Especially in The Middle East. And I agree we will disagree on this.
